This is what I have quoted in the previous Benchmark Thread

    " Basically I will have the same spec on my R2 like my previous R1 with the exception of the CPU. I read somewhere that it's 25-26% increase in performace. Base on my OC'ed QX9300 , OC'ed 4870's the Vantage and 3DMARK06 score from my R1 , I think R2 with 920Xm would probably be around P15K - 17K Vantage , and 24K - 25K 3DMARK06. "

Can someone tell me that I was not dreaming !!!

3dmark06 is crashing doing runs that high. Need time to tweak and get some extra cooling.

Gotta wake up early for work. More fun tomorrow. I will have more time the next few nights.

i can't believe the 920XM is able to pull that off. you gotta do a crysis benchmark. i can't even wait to see what the 5870s will do with a 920XM.

Isn't your system limited by a 120w supply? I read that the system shuts itself down when at full load (e.g. furmark + prime). So that 3.7 ghz couldn't possibly be stable given the weak PSU.

I did not want to indicate that mine remains at 3.7 ghz, it changes as the need may be and it even goes over 4 ghz at times according to turbo boost and CPUZ and such. I haven't tried furmark+prime, will do soon.

Throwing up an All stock run of the QX9300+ATI 4870's for comparison. Posted it few pages back but in the last day this thread has grown so much that it got lost.

    Comparison based on Vantage runs

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=42656&d=1262127850
My stock QX9300 CPU score was 10,454

Here is Mandrakes Stock clocked i7 920XM, CPU Score 16,217
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=44346&d=1265161009

Am I wrong in saying the 920 with turbo is over 50% faster?

As far as GPU scores are concerned, Mandrake ran the score with Cat 9.12 Drivers, where as my GPU score was based on factory drivers as I had yet to install Cat 9.12 ;)

Yeah preliminary numbers seem to show the 920xm thrashing the qx9300. I can't wait till mine arrives so I can do some OC'ing.

Well based on what Soviet told me in a conversation, the 120 PSU doesn't have enough juice for that 17" Clevo so with furmark + p95 running, the system shuts down. He's got a 160w PSU on order, I'll ask him to re-run the tests to see if the problem goes away.

But i can hope they are. If they do indeed hit that high i will get a 920 off ebay

Even if they are not, it still doesn't change the score. Best I can hope for is that all four are not running, and there is a tweak needed to make all four run, then the scores would reflect a nice jump.

One easy way to test for it is to output via dual displays and have a monitoring program up on one of them while vantage is running to see if all 4 cores reach that OC during turbo mode. If they do, then this thing will be unstoppable. Or you could even run ThrottleStop with it's logging function (logs about once a second) to see which multipliers kick in during a vantage run.

I'm looking forward to seeing more results. Unfortunately my R1 hasn't made it back to dell. Stupid APO shipping :(, So I havn't ordered one yet, but I'd like to wait till 5870's come out. Not sure if I'm that patient though. Although by the time I recieved an R2, they would probably be out, so I may as well wait :(

based on this post i have a VERY interesting find. The blck is unlocked.

Anyone with a desktop i7 knows what i am saying. The blck is what you need to overclock it. The BIOS in the M17x uses the blck to overclock the 5% which means if you could decompile the BIOS you could change the value and have it overclock more.

I am just happy to see it unlocked and know the potential is there. I do not know if you can adjust it in the OS level like you can the FSB through.

they tried GT220 but it was very very bad ... like just bad.

They did die shrink the GT215 core ( or was it 210?)

Anyway, the only way to OC the 4870's is a Vbios flash

Guess I'll have to look up some guides on OC'ing the 4870. RivaTuner doesn't work either? Some people had success in OC'ing the 4670 in the SXPS 16 by modifying the ini file in Rivatuner. I think I'll try that tomorrow.

nobody has tried modifying the INF but when i get mine tommorw i will try a couple things but i am going to write up some things to help people understand ATI cards since they are flooding the market.

Maybe how to flash and driver instillation.

I really need to get my website up and running

vbios flashing is really easy and painless. Here is a really good guide done by Mandrake. Props go to him. http://www.notebookforums.com/thread230061.html
Just remember to keep a copy of the original vbios so you can flash back to the stock flash. I never once had an issue and I was reflashing the vbios 15-20+ times a day when I was OCing

I've got a lot of experience with bios flashing nvidia cards, just not ATi. Still I'd rather have a software solution where I can change the clocks at will rather than have to manually flash each time. I'm hoping RivaTuner does the trick later today.

Flashing the vbios with ATI cards helps with stability versus OC'ing them in Windows. I found the opposite to be true with the nVidia cards.
