Time to break out the liquid nitrogen and see "how low can you go?" maybe we can push the clocks way past the limit. :D

It's possible in this system. Just need to keep the keyboard attached and flipped over. Then use an external keyboard. You can the have access to the CPU & GPUs with the LN2.

Forget OEM, save half your cash and get the ES. The two cores I got are flawless. The seller even threw in some Shin Etsu paste.

Save cash if it were like $400 maybe ;)

I bought my 920 for $800 and I'm sure I can get an OEM 940 for around that when released.

Wasn't the qx9500 only on the wiki page?

Anyway the 940 will act the same in the M17xR2 as the 920 unless Dell does a bios upgraded. Whether or not it can OC better is another story.

The 940 I picked up was $750 shipped with a one year reseller warranty. Not bad. Here's to hoping for the bios update.

I finished it about a month ago, dont use the very high settings, use high and the highest resoultion. And yes i did notice it slowing down in some situations but with the 4870s so i guess its normal.

Also true...I have no doubt the amount of work it took to get there.

Was just trying to insert a little humor into the thread. Being first for something is always an accomplishment, I wasn't trying to make light of it at all.

I'm glad you got a laugh out of it DR650SE :p 700Mhz with the 4870 did better than the 5870 at 700Mhz ( stock ). ahh good times ;) I'll be in when they change the system design, better watch out till then :p

you can also use dry ice or phase change.

and if the chip gets a burnt pad or fries or you drop it while out of the machine and it breaks...your stuck
at least with intel, you can get a cross ship on a oem (takes more work in some cases or take it back to where you got it and they can do it) or retail cpu.
    flipside
it WAS harder to fry a cpu in a laptop......NOT any more. :D (talking about scook9 and his 1.5V  )
break 16.7 without moving the cpu...i have faith!

I though phase change was the term used when describing heatsinks and how they work. Hot and cold zones and all.

    phase change/SS/cascade/
    is basically the same thing.

    vapochill - Google Search

to get an idea of what you would use

these machines are self contained and get super cold in a matter of minutes. min pulls down to negative -35 in about one minute. plenty of cold for a laptop cpu or gpu.

    edit:

and dont think i didn't check to see if i could make it fit on the gateway..haha
but it would be a waste of time since i can't over clock the cpu

side note...maybe drake..(on the extra cooling)

Be careful, the ram in my left card started making a popping noise at 1200 mhz. You probably have the AC on max with the computer bare to cool temps but even then the memory chips aren't exposed directly and still heat up quite a bit.

Nope no external cooling. I don't have any hardware to do that. I just did some Windows 7 tweaks this time around. My system is fully assembled.

Edit: I do have a desk fan blowing on the system while it sits on my targus pad (not active) if that counts.

    Wow.

That's pretty impressive, seems to be indicative of some serious power in the 940, and some very good cards on your hands, clearly both of the above. Although seeing your edit that external cooling is not too bad, but I was expecting a little better cooling then that for your scores.
