Time to break out the liquid nitrogen and see "how low can you go?" maybe we can push the clocks way past the limit.
-
It's possible in this system. Just need to keep the keyboard attached and flipped over. Then use an external keyboard. You can the have access to the CPU & GPUs with the LN2.
-
Are you getting the 940XM too mandrake? We need a few 06 runs
-
Maybe eventually. We'll see when the OEM versions are released.
-
Forget OEM, save half your cash and get the ES. The two cores I got are flawless. The seller even threw in some Shin Etsu paste.
-
Joker could you pm me the sellers ebay page? I think that's where you ordered it from right?
-
Joker, where did you get your 940 from? I got mine from laptopmonkey. Hoping it's as falawless as yours.
-
Oh and are you planning on running game benchmarks to see if the cpu increases fps in most games as well. especially metro
-
lol *rubs touchpad..ooo la la*. Its very simple and it occurred to me last night that I was missing the obvious. I'll elaborate later today if I get a chance.
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
Mandrake, that is assuming these make it to OEM....remember the qx9500.....
-
Joker, is that your replacement system? If so, how does it look compared to the last one?
-
Nah its from the other guy selling the 940XM, the one from Taiwan.
-
Hey is 12.9k the max you can bench for a i7 720qm 5870 cf? or are there more tweaks and drivers coming to improve this?
-
Save cash if it were like $400 maybe
I bought my 920 for $800 and I'm sure I can get an OEM 940 for around that when released.
Wasn't the qx9500 only on the wiki page?
Anyway the 940 will act the same in the M17xR2 as the 920 unless Dell does a bios upgraded. Whether or not it can OC better is another story. -
The 940 I picked up was $750 shipped with a one year reseller warranty. Not bad. Here's to hoping for the bios update.
-
anyone playing crysis warhead right now? i'm getting massive fps slowdowns when there's lots going on... (5870 xfire with dell drivers)
-
I finished it about a month ago, dont use the very high settings, use high and the highest resoultion. And yes i did notice it slowing down in some situations but with the 4870s so i guess its normal.
-
Hey CodeBreaker, looks like you might need to change your sig now that the 16k mark has been reached.
-
He will always have the first 15k run no matter what people do now.
-
Speedy Gonzalez Xtreme Notebook Speeder!
the M17X is not for games just for benchmarks
lol. don't get me wrong just kidding
-
Speedy Gonzalez Xtreme Notebook Speeder!
he work hard to get the 15k run why he need to take it off
the 5870's are different history -
lol that was funny, but man, TheCodeBreaker reached some crazy clocks with those cards, lot of good work.
-
Speedy Gonzalez Xtreme Notebook Speeder!
time to start a new benchmark thread this is over 3000 post already
-
What 3000!?
-
True...
Also true...I have no doubt the amount of work it took to get there.
Was just trying to insert a little humor into the thread. Being first for something is always an accomplishment, I wasn't trying to make light of it at all.
-
Yup the first to break 15K without the 5870s
It was really hard
So many failed attempts and the fridge ROTFLOL
I'm glad you got a laugh out of it DR650SE
700Mhz with the 4870 did better than the 5870 at 700Mhz ( stock ). ahh good times
I'll be in when they change the system design, better watch out till then
-
You should still be able to compete in 3dmark06...hint hint
-
-
Who said i quit
I found out that it was my high gpu oc that crashed the cpu test for some weird reason and that i need at least 2% oc with 28multi , so i'm back in testing stage and im going to install XP.
-
Overclock the CPU multi for better GPU it should take it to 16.5K. Get that ac unit on max
-
It is on max.
I'm playing with GPU settings right now. I'll get back to the CPU eventually. -
you can also use dry ice or phase change.
and if the chip gets a burnt pad or fries or you drop it while out of the machine and it breaks...your stuck
at least with intel, you can get a cross ship on a oem (takes more work in some cases or take it back to where you got it and they can do it) or retail cpu.
flipside
it WAS harder to fry a cpu in a laptop......NOT any more.
(talking about scook9 and his 1.5V
)
break 16.7 without moving the cpu...i have faith! -
I though phase change was the term used when describing heatsinks and how they work. Hot and cold zones and all.
-
-
phase change/SS/cascade/
is basically the same thing.
vapochill - Google Search
to get an idea of what you would use
these machines are self contained and get super cold in a matter of minutes. min pulls down to negative -35 in about one minute. plenty of cold for a laptop cpu or gpu.
edit:
and dont think i didn't check to see if i could make it fit on the gateway..haha
but it would be a waste of time since i can't over clock the cpu
side note...maybe drake..(on the extra cooling) -
-
Be careful, the ram in my left card started making a popping noise at 1200 mhz. You probably have the AC on max with the computer bare to cool temps but even then the memory chips aren't exposed directly and still heat up quite a bit. -
Don't worry about me, I have two extra 5870s if needed.
-
How'd you swing that?
-
I know someone who knows someone who knows someone important.....
-
wow, someone wants the record bad
... lots of respect
-
I have the M15x coming Friday so I will have more systems to put it in and bench.
-
and a 5870 is going into that system
are you then selling your m17x?
-
No the M17x seems like a keeper. Unless the M15x is a flop I will sell the G73 I have.
-
-
Very nice. Here's one I just ran:Attached Files:
-
-
You must be running external cooling @ 930...
-
Nope no external cooling. I don't have any hardware to do that. I just did some Windows 7 tweaks this time around. My system is fully assembled.
Edit: I do have a desk fan blowing on the system while it sits on my targus pad (not active) if that counts. -
Wow.
That's pretty impressive, seems to be indicative of some serious power in the 940, and some very good cards on your hands, clearly both of the above. Although seeing your edit that external cooling is not too bad, but I was expecting a little better cooling then that for your scores.
