@joker: Keep going then. You may claim not to be into benching much but you're still here. ;)

Thanks, I might give it a go later by removing the keyboard and using the fan on it and seeing if I can hit 940/1300. I dunno, I'm afraid for the ram at this point. I don't have extra 5870s laying around like mandrake does. I would like to see 17k from someone but I don't know if that'll happen with these drivers.

Well I guess if I was hardcore into it I'd get an external AC under my desk + put my adapter in a freezer with my M17x naked. Who knows I might end up getting halfway there lol. I just would love to see 17k at this point because I know thats what these cards were built for. Doesn't matter if I get there first or not, my scores are for Clevo/Asus fans :D

You are close enough to do it. Especially without any real external cooling.

I didn't smell any solder. This isn't my replacement system either, it's supposed to go back to dell so I dont wanna ship them a dead unit lol.

It would be of no use to you since you have 4870s.

interesting enough...mandrake was telling me the same exact stuff. quite some time ago...lol

and you seem to fit our benching profile...so if i had to bet...i may bet that you continue to bench. :D

    side note:

you guys really need to open it up a bit..start benching the older benches just to see if they still rank supreme or get the stuffing beat out of em..lol

then there are the cpu benchmarks as well
    (bench with extreme care here)
    wprime 32m/1024
    super pi 1m/32m
    pi fast
    sissoft sandra

thses machines now, can do far more than just running vantage or 06....
but like joker said...if your not really into it, then you wont bench them all. :)

    side note:
and as for me...oh yeah, im into it!
    check the sig.

working on over clocking the htc evo right now, but it's not looking good as of yet...lol

ummm...everyone in here is over clocking a cpu...lol

do the cpu benchmarks instead. they are all free.

benching a phone is just that...bench it just to do it, then call it a day after.
im just doing it because i can..haha...think i may have found the loophole i was looking for.

lol i never made fun of you guys...much. :D You know what stops me from being a bencher? Sheer laziness. I'm too lazy to go through the trouble of setting up an AC unit, freezing my PSU , taking apart the system, all the little tweaks etc involved and then downloading those zillion benchmark programs. That's why I'll never be hardcore...laziness.

    he said "much"
    you stayed on us!
    lol
but now your quite the experienced "over clocker now"

you only go extreme when you need to...other than that...you stay normal benching. these added tools we invest in are not just for one project..they transfer to many projects. when i was benching my laptop.
it stayed on the desk. and i didn't want to scratch it all up, so that's right where it stayed. about 95 percent of the time. i benching in one spot so everything is in it's place.in your case....you would stay where you are..you would only go super when trying to do suicide runs. (so what ever is at your disposal at that time) fans go a very long way. benching out side at night while counting stars..lol...
but, that's when you change from just bencher to over clocker as well..now your trying to see how high and how fast you can make the whole machine run...that's when you slowly get drawn in...i bet if it was about 5 people going against each other in here for world records...you would be inclined to drop the laziness for a bit. why? because we would be in here talking crazy to make sure you got involved!..lol

but all good though joker. you have made major strides here! thanks for the many contributions!

and we'll see ya when you get the next machine.....in about 2 weeks...lol
cause you aint fooling no one! :D

Hey, guys, how are these 5870 benchmarks looking for eyefinity gaming? I'm wondering if the M17x can handle 5040x1050 resolution at playable framerates comparable to say, a single desktop 5870.

If you guys are getting 15k to 16k (3dmark vantage) stable on the CF 5870s, how does that compare in terms of eyefinity ability to, say, a single desktop 5870? If I remember correctly, desktop 5870s get around 13k in 3dmark vantage. is this correct?

furthermore, are all 3 video-out ports able to work at the same time in the m17x? This would have to happen to get eyefinity to work.

    Any information guys?

Is there anywhere that I can download EVGA E-Leet? Or is it something I have to register for. ON the site it want's me to register a motherboard or some other product. Seeing as I don't have one, I'm looking for the program elsewhere if it's able to be found.

    Hi Mandrake,

I noticed that you input Joker's score on the first page but you wrote the wrong processor. He had a 940XM at the time of the bench not a 920XM.

cpu benchmarking software in cluding 2001 and 2003 so no comments about cpu dependant because that's exactly why they are here. and 4870 have a shot at winning as well..(speculation of course)

    2003
    or 2005
the first two are good to run against single/dual/tri/quad core - 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8 threads cpu's (dont ask me about tri either - lol)

if you already have a futuremark account..then you can save them there without buying them. (speculation)

time to start seeing just how much faster these alleged over clocks really are... :)

also, if you really want to compete agasint the desktop counterparts..start running 01/03/ and see just how close you really are....you can forget about getting close with vantage...lol

The intent is good but I believe you will reach the cap for 2001 and maybe even 2003. Unless I am wrong I believe reading that those two bench had a cap "maximum score possible" and I thought that cap was already reached on 2001 with the 280SLI.

    Again I may be wrong.

dont get me wrong...i love running vantage with a passion, but after running it like 500 plus times....we tend to need to break away to something different. and that's where these other test come in at...really trying to get a bigger nation wide data base on the "whole performance" of setups and not just a 3dmark/vantage perspective.
and looking at your sig, both of your systems are worry of this challenge.... :)
with ssd's, you'll do pretty good on pcmark05

    side note:
i already got beat by codebreaker on 2001...lol

Meaning... if I hooked up 3 monitors (total resolution of 5040x1050) to a desktop computer with a single stock 5870 graphics card, and hooked up the same 3 monitors to the M17x with either CF4870 or CF5870 cards, what would be the comparison in terms of realistic gameplay experience and/or FPS. Would it even be possible? Can all three display-out ports on M17x work at the same time?

From what I've heard, the mobility 5870 is roughly equivalent to desktop 5770. Therefore, if CF5770 beat a single 5870 (by a small amount) in a desktop, would a CF mobility 5870 in the M17x perform comparably or even be playable in eyefinity with games across 5040x1050.

Hope that explains what I'm looking for. :)

Oh oops, thanks, disregard the above post then. You guys posted while I was writing it.

Hmm... looks like eyefinity might be pretty difficult then with the M17x. Oh well... will wait until some legitimate external graphics solutions pop up. Hopefully ATI XGP takes off.

Oh actually, is the Vantage a pretty good benchmark in terms of GPU comparison, or does the CPU factor in a lot into the Vantage score? Sorry.. benchmarking is very new to me.

cpu speed factors into vantage and that's about it.
    let me re phrase that...

more cores will give you a better cpu test score and over all score, but will not effect your gpu.
what effects the gpu score is how fast the cpu is running + gpu over clock.

sure it can, but you need a usb floppy drive to do it.

i didn't really notice anything different between achi or ide for the ssd though. it appeared to work the same...maybe later ill go a bit farther into that.

did you try what mandrake just said?

I set it to ATA, and now i can't even go into the bios, and it just freezes at the splash screen

EDIT: it doesn't freeze, it just takes 2 minutes on the splash screen. and even when i try to load from the cd/dvd drive it says, media failure, check cable. Any thoughts are appreciated.

    dont you have ide mode?
open the back and pull the drive or do a bios reset if you can.

If you get crossfire working in xp, let me know....

I spent many hours trying to fix that and just gave up on XP with this laptop

Crossfire doesn't work  I'll let you know ;)
my only concern is getting through the install without a BSOD. SO far i tried raid configuration but got a BSOD. ATA, makes the boot too slow. only one more left.

AHCI makes it BSOD too in the installation. Any thoughts?
