who am i to be saying that though...lol
    i got a 980x....lol

but i really do want to know how fast they are...super pi is a good one, because it runs on one core...so the fastest over clock of any cpu wins there. and wprime is all about cores and speed.

When are you going to jump in with an M17x of your own? 940xm's been pulled from the system, 820 is back in and ready to be shipped back on monday.

So wait a second the default clock is 900 something? I thought the memory and gpu were 700/1000? That's like really beasty and man you pushed your machine to its limit. Are you going to keep the 940 and put in your replacement, congrats joker.

m17x locks me into one system that all i will do is bench it for about 2 weeks or so, the put it up for sale or send it back.

i did toss the idea around though. and watching you guys makes me think i should grab one....but then im locked into a system that im not going to do anything else with, but bench. i got 3 other systems for that now. :)

i bench cards/memory & cpu's. that's allot of money for me to bench 1 type of video card.

Buy it to keep. Can't hurt to have a powerful laptop on the go.

Yeah default is 700/1000. I had the vbios flashed and then used gpu tool to push it up a bit more.

    on the go huh?
my last one went with me to florida and that was about it. i didn't it getting all scratched up being moved around. so it stayed at home on a desk, being benched :D
and i really dont need that much computing power on the road, because im not playing any hard core games. this gateway is doing me fine. got a few gold trophies for it in the rankings and it does all i need it too. and i dont care if it gets dirty or scratched up. :)

my alienware would never leave the house to be honest...lol
a few years ago..maybe, now...nope. and it still wont out play any of my single video cards. :D

that's why i come to see what new feets you guys have this machine doing...
and, i just love benching and watching the results unfold.. :)

Mandrake, what is it about the M15x that allows the CPU to overclock further than the M17x? Is it the BIOS? Also does the new ThrottleStop allow for voltage increases on the core-i cpus like it does the C2D cpus? You should also try the 940XM in the M15x ;)

klemens, we are getting the 940XM cpu off ebay. Right now only the qualification samples are available since Intel has not released the official version, and probably won't for a while, maybe next quarter. I got mine for $750 shipped on ebay. When the OEM is released it'll be well over $1,000

I haven't had enough time with the M15x yet to answer that. I've been testing the 5870 more than the CPU since I got it.

Regarding the 940XM, I "gotta guy" for that to. I'm trying to see if he can get me an OEM soon.

No wonder i couldnt find it in any DELL alienware system...
Yeah, i agree with you that the 940xm will be over $1000 over since the 920xm is cost $1080 US dollar....
    Thanks...

I haven't even tried Vantage yet.

Yes, I'm guessing some of the system limits still need to be raised to support the higher multipliers.

So, i just ran a 3dMark06 Benchmark. came up with 13243 3dMarks. Which is around 200marks lower than my Nvidia GTX 260m scored on the M15x. Very strange.

Ran with Dell stock drivers/CrossfireX enabled.

    Running vantage now.

Technically no.. but as you know Dell Driver ARE having problems at the moment...
However.. I shouldn't see why your machine can be lower. Retest it and do a seperate CPU and a sep GPU test. Also forget about doing the feature tests. Then close all other programs (including GPU-Z, etc..).

Try to narrow out the problem I guess. Probably do a battery drain as well (for fun)

ya i just ran the whole 3dmark06 test randomly to see what the general performance score would be. (you can see apps still open in the background). I'll try it again but oh well. At least game performance seems ok so far. I'll have more extensive playthrough now that everything is installed again.

3d06 is heavily cpu driven, you will get lower score because your cpu is only hitting 1.8ghz with all 4 cores running while an r1 with a q9300 is likely running all 4 cores @ 3.2ghz. my m17 with 3870s & qx9300 outscores my R2 all day on 3dmark06, its not really indicative of the gpu power or ability to play games @ higher frame rates

i think i got very similar scroes with my i5 540m, i think my 3d06 score was just over 14 with the gpu clocks @ 600 & 950. if there was some way we could overclock the i series cpus it would be a different story. i was gonna do some heavy benching with my machine but after i had it all naked it shroted out and wouldnt start for a few minutes, so i chickened out, i was ablr to get my gpu clocks to sit @ 725 & 1195 on my 4870s with out it crashing instantly, but i never got to do a bench cause after i switched the clocks back to stock to turn the fams 7 ac unit back to high is when it shorted out.

    A stock run for my setup on 3dMark 06 is 15276 & a vantage stock is 10230
    A OC run on 06 is 16005 & OC Vantage 11205.

everything was updated, everything is optomized, the only thing was during that run I didn't shut down every possible application to get the highest possible score. I expect i'll gain more points by doing that but the number is still low. My i7 820QM on my M15x scored 13400+ points, this M17x scored a 13200+. The difference between the 720 and the 820 is equivalent to only a couple hundred points in 06 or vantage. Whereas the difference between the GTX 260M and CrossfireX 5870's (or even a single 5870) should still increase the performance shown in 06 and vantage. Vantage seems to show double the performance over my benchmark on the M15x, 3dMark06 shows a decrease in performance.

People with similar setups but with 4870's are showing better stock scores. I know there are driver issues atm so i'm going to equate the poor benchmark performance to that.

This being said so far Gaming hasn't shown any issues. I've tested with:

BBC2, L4D2, Mass Effect 2, SCII Beta, Split Second, Crysis Warhead and finally LOTRO. Only Crysis still runs like garbage on Enthusiast settings. But Battlefield BC2 lets me run at max settings and still plays smooth.

@TheCodeBreaker I give you extra props for your bench scores. I've never been in a country that is so miserably hot during the day. I was sitting in my tent and my Inspiron 1720 had a thermal shutdown while I was watching a movie. Thats with the AC on, still sweating a gallon an hour. Granted your's was earlier in the year, but Kuwait is just way to hot for me. I'm flying out in the morning and can't wait to rehydrate and quite sweating. Now is definately not the time for running benchmarks unless you have a crazy A/C on max. :p

LOL, thermal melt down :p It definitely hot during the summer, it was 52 C in the morning. It doesn't get that hot in the house though, thats why the benches were good, especially with the refrigerator :D A/C on max LMAO!! Just sitting outside in this weather will probably will drop your weight by a few kilograms :p I think if i run a benchmark outside the CPU might explode :p
I don't think I'll be leaving this summer  Got a few summer courses.

LOL, seperated refrigerated room, im not going to lie I tried that :p Unlike scook benches in Kuwait are meant to be inside of the house

    I'll try the drivers soon.

All serious benchers should have valid keys!

Although....I did get my 06 and Vantage Keys free lol (love bundles! - EVGA usually packages vantage in with their highend gpus and Asus gives you 06 with RoG motherboards pretty often)

So the problems with the CFX 5870m's was to be fixed with the "Next CCC release".

Is this true? Mandrake, Joker, can someone confirm that this helped at all? Did 10.6 recognize your card and fix anything?

10.6 did not fix anything. It might have been too short of a time to get the fix into the release. We are hoping for the July release to include the fix.

It fails for me and a few others. I don't believe the dell drivers are supported.
I tend to get alot of games that say my graphics cards aren't supported. for example L4D2 and Starcraft II. The FFXIV beta is the only one that doesn't let me run it though.

What? WHAT?! Not supported?! I had no idea these things happened. Is this only temporary? I'll be damned if the one game I want to play the most cannot be played on the system I've always wanted.

its temporary. There is an issue thats not letting people with crossfire 5870m's install ATI's drivers. So right now were stucking using the dell drivers which for whatever reason aren't current enough to run the FFXIV beta bench. They Will be supported its just this issue that seems to be holding us back. or at least me.

    FINAL FANTASY XIV Official Benchmark

Was trying to run the FF14 benchmark on my system I received yesterday but when I hit run it gave me some sort or error. Currently at work but I've been trying to see what the problem could be at various FF11/FF14 forums.

After asking some questions I was told to DL a file for DirectX. I was wondering if anyone would mind trying to see if DL'ing and installing this file, would fix the issue? Would do it myself but I don't get off till 10pm tonight. Here's a link to the missing file DL. Thx in advance if anyone is able to help out. I'll try myself later also, when I get home. I want to see what the game looks like.

    Download details: DirectX End-User Runtime

Its an issue with the catalyst drivers I believe. It doesn't work for me either.

Thought I'd post my results. This is a stock system, nothing OC'd. Vantage 13960, 3D Mark 06 19870. I think that pretty much falls in line with what others are getting stock, yes? I'm not crazy into benching, so I can't run the futuremark software twice, trial = over ;)
