Intel XTU for manipulating the bios but last I checked that didn't work either. Besides he's doing it within Windows. Must be throttle stop as scook mentioned.

I know I tried ~ 4-5 of the old FSB windows apps (softfsb, coolfsb..ect) on my old R2 and couldn't get any of them to work at all. Some wouldn't even instal.

i never said you said it wasn't. im just saying that's what is needed to be done.

im not most, i would have tore it down completely. no since in even taking it apart for that purpose if your not going to do that to begin with right? but since the vga's are right there, it's a partial tear down. no need for most to attempt to go farther. :)

didn't work on an i3m or an i5m either..i tried that as well, just for kicks.

I have an idea or two.
I just don't think anyone should make accusations of 'manipulating' screenshots just like that.

It is pretty abstract....but he could also just have a custom BIOS from Dell

In his vantage submission, you cannot see if it is a submittable score or not - he may have modified a setting in the program making it non submittable

It is proper form to show the entire 3DMark 06 or Vantage window when submitting a screen shot to avoid any ambiguity

Mandrake, educate me on this since I don't have the R2, what are the options available on the BIOS and what on the E-LEET that you can actually change?

You get limited voltage options with the CPU and Memory along with an up to 5% bclk OC on the CPU frequency.

That means the BCLK will get a max value with that 5% from the BIOS unless there is a software that will increase it from windows, correct?

What are all of the BIOS options, not just the overclocking ones

If it was in the overclocking menu it would be obvious don't you think?

Scook, I believe that those mentioned by TheCodeBreaker and Mandrake can really make the difference...
The biggest gain would be from the BCLK. The higher clocks in turbo mode don't really give that much of an increase...

Yeah the 5% is the max value in the bios. We discussed this last night. CPU OC'ing for the M17x is pretty useless for the most part because Intel's TDP limit kicks in way too early. I had to remove the bottom cover on mine last night + point a fan at it just to let it run cool enough to get some good wprime numbers in. The core reaches 72+C too fast and then throttles itself. Now if someone is clever enough to figure out a way to disable the Intel TDP limiter, THAT will truly be an awesome breakthrough.

BTW guys, the CPU OC'ing I did isn't some new information. You guys will kick yourselves for not figuring it out right away, at least I was like, "duh" as soon as I realized it. I'm going to write up a quick guide in a few mins for the experienced users and then add pictures later for everyone else.

    Thanks for the information Joker

I am interested to see what the trick was. Is it just a loophole in the BIOS coding or something we all overlooked?

On the Main tab, there are no values to change other than the System Date and Time.
On the advanced Tab, you get to enable and disable the following, wired network, wireles network, bluetooth receiver, high definition audio, USB emulation, Firewire. and you get to go into the Performance option for the ocing features. As well as a few hard disk options.
Security Tab, for a system password, unless you use that the rest is disabled or not active.
Power Tab, enable and disable the A/C adapter warnings, USB wake Support, USB Powershare.
    Boot tab, your boot options
    and your exit tab :p

Joker did you try to use an air conditioning unit like the ones on the wall that they have in the appartments? It will be much better than a simple fan.
This way I' ve managed to run it OCed through all the tests without the CPU or the GPU fans to go to the second or third stage (this is the only way I can think of to prevent the TDP limiter to kick in).

    hope its good

what is more interesting is that the 4870s seem to be more reliable than the stock clock speeds.....! really running flawlessly. i really didnt expect this

Well, now this has been quite a treat. Having to come in here and remove pointless bickering posts is not something I want to do. Guys, you all know better and already are well aware of the forum rules - if you have an issue, take it to PM and leave it out of the thread.

This thread has had more issues than any other and because of that here is how we are going to work it moving forward...

Since this is not some benchmarker only site, benchmark submissions/result posts can be anything. It does not need to have some official stamp from Futuremark saying 'Validated'. If you choose not to believe someone, fine. Keep it to yourself or kindly take it to PM.

We are going to keep this thread as simple as possible. If someone posts a score and provides a screenshot - then fine, its in there. Obviously photoshopped shots are easy to spot. If you all want a more 'validated' arena I suggest looking elsewhere. NBR is a place for a novice as well as a seasoned user and this thread is not going to be the exception.

Any questions on this need to be sent to me via PM. DO NOT post comment or question relating to my post. Send it via PM if you have an issue.

    Thanks.

Turn on 5% OC through the bios and then turn setfsb back on and click "get fsb" and see if the registers populate.

Well it all comes down to having the proper PLL in setfsb. I guess this pretty much confirms that they use more than one in their systems. Some of us lucked out with this PLL and others are still locked unfortunately.

I might open up the other M17x and rip off the black stuff to find the PLL chip since it's going back to Dell (it had several defects and is being replaced). But a full tear down like that entails a lot of work and I'm feeling very lazy lately.

same, I might tear it down to look under the black stuff. I haven't fully removed a M17x mainboard before, so if it's more work than I think it is, I might just stop there for tonight.

videos no, benchmark scores of the same games yes

videos are not something that can be compared between users because there are so many variables within gameplay - the point of a benchmark is to completely remove these variables so that the only thing changing is the system running the test
