i am part of this game and understand why and what you do. its just not reasonable to say that something is more powerful because it reached higher rating on benchmarks on such extreme overclocks. We are even talking about so high tweaks that not all machines can handle.
By the way i am still trying to finish 3dmark vantage test even on stock clocks. it still stucks on loading of physx 2nd cpu test. does this physx has something to do with gpus too? because ATIs dont support physx.

ATIs do not support PhysX, but you still have to have PhysX software loaded on the system to run the test. You can get that from Nvidias website
-
I understand Aristotelhs point of view. This extreme form of benchmarking is not indicative of the system's real performance but I don't think it's supposed to be. Like Moo mentioned, for some it's just a game to see how high they can go. I do tend to keep my overclocks somewhat realistic so that they would work in real world use and when they don't, I point it out in my posts. The 17k+ score I got just now can be used for 24/7 settings and is very stable so it shows the true performance characteristics of my M17x.

maybe if someone has- knows so many about 3rd party tools as you do then it may be indicative. otherwise not. at least watching yours and others extreme benchmarks we see what this machine could reach.
I ll have to check this setfsb if my 5870s (on the way) really work in CF. -
Well, Joker's opening up a considerable lead over everyone else, so get your score's up there guys (and girls)!
-
Which pad are you using joker?
I've been thinking about the Antec and shoving a better 167CF/M 200mm fan in there. However, it's about an inch short on legnth to cover the M17x. All the thermaltake's use 230mm fans and the big zalman I saw uses a 220mm fans. both of which I've only been able to find ~ 110CF/M fans for, but they are big enough to sit a m17x on there comfortably. They also have aluminum bases while the antec is full plastic.
hmmm. decisions... -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
I would not worry about getting bigger fans Lozz, you are still somewhat limited by what the fans on the M17x will suck up and push through the fins. If cooling is that much of a concern for you for benches (and not full time use) try a freezer or portable AC unit
-
If you can coolndown the motherboard your score will jump. Cooling the CPU and gpu is important but the mobocracy can affect things even more .... All of a sudden that .5 MHz oc actually works now because enough electrons are making it to the cou
-
That's sort of what I was going for, was hoping 5C on GPU's/CPU and 10C or so on the chassis and main board temperature. That would be worth it imo. The M17x's cooling profile so big that it necessitates a lot of CFM , big vents, and big fans. In any case, it's just a POM thing.
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
The motherboard never sees that air though unless you take apart the system - it is packed in there pretty tight
-
Hence why I used a fan in a freezer
-
it will run a bit cooler since the chassis is cooler though convection, and conduction and since the cpu and gpu heatsinks are not radiating heat to the mainboard (since it's being blown better away from the laptop). How much is debatable. Just because of the fact that the whole case is aluminum it will conduct some heat, ergo, if it's cooler, so should be the parts inside, to some degree.

My Cryo has bit the dust
The plug for the AC came off (not sure how...poor structural attachment) and when trying to fix it the secondary board (one with the dial on it) sparked and is now no more. I will see if I can get something warrantied out of it or just have to get another one -
That sucks man...
It looks like it is very hard to get a new one, they are backordered everywhere. -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
If nothing can be done, I will make my own board and just have it be 100% all the time to the fans - using the same aluminum and fan cage over again. I have a 12V adapter that is outputting 17.8V that will get the fans going good haha
-
that sucks, My old R1 plug half-broke, so needless to say, I've been very careful so far with my R2 and PSU routing. afaik, it doesn't have any structural support past the leads to the mainboard, and for a plug of that gauge it really does need some.
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
ya on the Cryo there were no side pads on the plug to mount it down, just the 2 electrical pins and that was it.....pretty lame
-
lawl, I didn't know what you were talking about at first..
I want one so bad..
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
Ya, it is a great cooler but be gentle around the AC adapter plug on the main board where the USB hub is (there are 2 boards, the usb hub one and another one for the power control of the fans)
I still easily recommend the cooler to anyone serious about benching -
yeah, can't find it anywhere though. Can't even order it direct from NZXT. Ebay only has the 15" up there.

This is my first run, nothing special
Imageshack - firstrun.png
I don't know if this the appropriate thread to ask but should the laptop freeze if I change the clocks on the secondary GPU even by 1MHz (from 700 to 701) with the AMD GPU Clock Tool?
*EDIT*
I used furmark like joker suggested and I am able to change the clocks -
It seems that the GPU throttles, I can't give any other explanation to the results if I compare them to the stock clocks on my first run
That's the second run
Imageshack - secondrun.png
That's the third run
Imageshack - thirdrun.png
Any ideas? -
How are your CPU temps? It could be CPU throttling since 06 is heavily CPU dependent. -
I wonder if it is the drivers and if I should apply any specific settings.
About the CPU, I don't thing it throttles because the score is almost 5000, I will check the temperatures and I will report back
I don't think temperatures are the issue with my case

Try completely removing the drivers, use driver sweeper to clean out any remnants and then reinstall. I removed my 10.6 last night because GTA IV performance was not what I wanted. After I reinstalled the 10.5's I found that my Frontlines Fuel of War performance was flawless despite it being really bad the last time I had 10.5 installed.
-
I created a partition with a fresh windows installation for this purpose, the drivers are the ones provided by Dell, I didn't install any other like the 10.6
-
Cheers.
What settings is everyone using for 3DMARK Vantage?
1280x720 (16:9) 720P?
Should I set to performance, entry, high extreme? Any other settings?
I seem to be getting 1-5 frames per second on performance?
Stealth mode is off -
Hmm then I'm not sure to be honest. Try my GPU throttle fix that I talked about and see if it helps. I managed to score 22,390 in 3dmark06 using Dell drivers. -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
Just choose performance. That will set everything where it needs to be
-
Ok joker I will give it a try and report back
Scook, it is on performance
*EDIT*
Under the graphics menu, the "Use Custom settings" is checked and when I uncheck it and set it to performance and press apply it is goes back on.
Last resort is to do what joker suggested and reinstall the drivers... -
Thanks scook9. My 3DMARK Vantage GPU score was 8541 & CPU score was 11713. Is that normal for stock drivers?
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
That is pretty low on the gpu. Do you have crossfire enabled?
-
Yeah, crossfire is enabled
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
I was talking to falcon lol
Guess I need to start quoting.....on my iPod touch lol -
Have CF enabled in Catalyst. I'll reboot and run again. Thxs.
Second run 3DMark Vantage
GPU 8451
CPU 1160 -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
To give a desktop world reference score,
I just ran vantage on my desktop (i7 965 and single 5870 - both stock) and got the following:
P18445
GPU: 17789
CPU: 20738
It is good to see that Joker is almost there with the dual 5870m's. Makes sense since the stock speed on the 5870 (desktop) is 850 MHz core and 1200 MHz memory. Also points to the 128-bit GDDR5 not being too much of a handicap in this bench (desktop card is 256-bit GDDR5) -
Is that stock or overclocked?
-
Not bad for my first day...
Uploaded with ImageShack.us
There is still margin from improvement, but I need to find a more reliable cooling method first -
Oh great.. make me do all that work to put you at number 1...
-
LOL jubbing, it's ok though if you leave the list as it is
Sooner or later someone else will take that position...
-
Well saying it hasn't changed for a while...
-
-
I had my settings balanced in CCC. I flipped a few more to performance and got the following scores.
3DMARK score P12329
3DMARK Vantage GPU Score 12536
3DMARK Vantage CPU Score 11746
For games is it better to leave them balanced or performance or better to let game take control, thanks. -
Wow, nice scores there.
-
What's your current max stable OC' for QX9300 (with stock cooling and closed bottom cover
) ?
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
Not sure, still have not had some quality time with it
And those were stock Jubbing -
I posted the score here as well
http://hwbot.org/rankings/benchmark/3dmark_2006/rankings?start=0&cores=2&hardwareTypeId=GPU_1702
and this is another pi run
-
Can you sustain that multiplier in a 4M run? -
-
Nice job..any external cooling?
