I close the door of the room and put the aircondition to the lowest ( 60 ), when it is cold enough I start benching, I wait like 10 min between every run or more
-
Are you using throttlestop or evga eleet for the mult changes? Kevin just recently added mult changes in the latest throttlestop. He's also working on bypassing the TDP/TDC limit, if he does..oh man, good times ahead.
-
Are you saying that x30 is a stable multiplier?
-
All I do is to max out everything on BIOS and the play with eleet, I don't use throttle stop. I can get better scores with lower settings but I don't have adequate cooling. That TDP limit is really annoying... On 3DMark06 I am sure I can get 22800 (there is still room for the GPUs and the CPU score can go up to 5100 for me)
-
Stable enough to run the test
That's all I need
-
Question guys, what are the settings for a vantage run to qualify? Do I have to choose specific tests?
-
Just run it with standard settings. You can turn off the extra feature tests since they don't factor into the final score. -
Could you please tell me what those are? It will take me too long just to run 3 times this benchmark and the shorter I can make it the better (10 min pause in between...)
Are those under the feature tests menu?
Under the Options, test options, post processing, do you change any of those as well? -
Under Options>Feature Tests you can forego those. Leave everything else as default. -
The way the m17x is if it's a window unit you need to take off the bottom and prop it over the vents.
-
Cool down the PSU and it's more efficent as well
little extra pony room
-
Well I'd hardly call it low saying that right off the blocks you've got the 3rd highest Vantage score for the M17x's. Your core speed's are nearly hitting 4k, thats pretty good imo.
-
I was able to go past 16000, what I am afraid though is that using the amd clock tool and the 10.5 won't get me past 17000 like joker, I might have to reconsider installing 10.6 and play with the riva tuner... First I have to find the optimal setting for the CPU and then I will concentrate on the GPUs. But with my cooling solution it takes for ever to make just a couple of runs
-
Joker, what is your highest 3DMark Vantage score with the 10.5 drivers?
-
I think 16.8k or there about. -
Which means that I am still far behind on Vantage...
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
You do not need to wait 10 minutes between runs....that should save you some time. Also make sure you have the new version of vantage 1.0.2 which loads like 10x faster than the original one

stamatisx except from air condition what thermal paste did you use for the cpu? -
Check out what Kevin just sent me to beta test

Nice! Now the hard question...will it work on any of the lesser processors? (820 and below)
-
Theoretically it might be I need to run the program on my sister's i430m to see if it works. I don't think it will but I'll still test in a few mins. This is an amazing breakthrough though, up till now all TDP/TDC unlockers were limited to the bios. -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
Do you think there would be any advantage to having a feature like that with the Core 2 chips? (think, my qx9300 lol)
-
I've already helped out the Core 2 owners, especially the ones with QX9300 CPUs now that you can unlock the multiplier.
This new feature is for any Core i CPU that supports this feature. So far only the Core i Extreme and Core i K series have this feature available but I think there will be a few more.
5150Joker's early testing looks promising so if you have a Core i CPU, Dual or Quad core, check it out and see if you can adjust TDP/TDC and post your results.

Now you can raise the voltage AND the TDP limit
These things are going to scream lol (like 20k cpu score scream) -
I don't think 20k cpu will be possible at least not with my 940xm. Even at max voltages it BSOD's if I push it to 80 TDP with a mult of 29x. I'm guessing the power supply is just too limiting. If someone really wants to go to the extreme and takes out one of their GPU's just to have more reserve power it might be possible but I'm not that hardcore. I bet some M15x owners with 920xm's will see 18-20k. -
Yeah i cant even get my 820 above 72 degrees so this wont apply to me but it is amazing how far you guys have come and makes me want another M17x

Congrats again, truly amazing stuff...
You might hit 20k by accident
....
-
Thanks, that would be a nice accident

Is that max voltage in the BIOS? Because you can further raise the voltage with ThrottleStop
Is how I did 1.5V on my QX9300 - at one point or another you will be limited by the pm55 chip but until then, there is a lot of improvements to be had. And I did not make up 20k, Mandrake did that with a 920xm in his G73 (and you cannot solely attribute that to the portable AC) -
+ .15V Is the maximum increase.
-
I tested it with OCZ freeze, it was bad and now I have the MX-3.
I have a Shin Etsu and I am thinking of trying that as well...
Wow, very nice.... I didn't have time for benching today, but tomorrow I will give it a shot for sure -
i tired it on mine, it doesn't seem to work. it doesn't read my bus speed properly i have set @ 168, and TS reads it as 133. also i don't see anything leading me to believe that i can adjust the TDP/TDC values or the voltage. =/
-
HOLY CRAP! Hey Quad, that "accident" happened! Check it out, 20K CPU on the M17x, who would have ever thought??

Have you tried right clicking on ThrottleStop and tried any of those menus?
ThrottleStop does not constantly recalculate the BCLK so if you use SetFSB, you will have to right click on ThrottleStop and select the Update BCLK menu item. Run ThrottleStop and CPU-Z minimized for a couple of hours and then have a look in the task manager at how much CPU time each program uses. I like lean and mean to help people like 5150Joker set records.
Congratulations 5150Joker. Weren't you just at 17K not that long ago? You're making this look too easy.
-
Congrats
I do miss my m17x, just family first.
I still love reading here watching some people push limits. -
Haha sweet man... I knew you would do it ...
-
I hear ya bro ... I am diggin the M15x though... Still have not decided if its a keeper or not though ... Dell is building me a new one because of 3 bad screens in a row so i am going to decide if i sell it while its brand new in the box and move on to something else ( as usual)...
Its hard not to get excited when all this stuff is happening but its easy to forget its going to take a 940xm and a whole LOT of patience
... The 940 would be possible but the patience err no...
-
It doesn't take long if you know what your doing
Just gotta have the right people and supporting crew and together anything can be pushed -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
I am busy doing some stuff
Let me just say Kinc has fallen
You will be updated when I am done for the night -
Wow, not a day goes by without a new record! Whoa!
So, was this score achieved without the secondary GPU ? -
Thanks man, if it wasn't for your programming genius none of this would be possible. Awesome job on cracking the TDP/TDC limit!
Nope, both GPU's were present. I just changed the TDP/TDC numbers and lowered the multiplier instead of pushing it higher like I was originally doing. Anytime you approach 4 GHz or greater with a 940xm, the system reaches it's limits very quickly and BSOD's. Instead I chose to focus on a lower multiplier (knowing the CPU will reach it consistently) with a higher TDP/TDC limit and well the results speak for themselves:Attached Files:

Well I am done running 06, so here is what I have done
3DMark06 score of 20489 in my M17x R1
I could not take the GPUs higher because I had to keep them stock voltage to give the juice to the CPU. Now for the CPU benchesAttached Files:

Nice job man, the 5704 CPU score is higher than what I've previously gotten with my 940xm. Will see now what it does in 06 with the TDP unlocked.
P.S. Your R1 needs to develop a severe case of DPC latency and/or death so Dell can give you an R2.
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
But now it is getting interesting! lol
The power limit is KILLING me though
I am getting throttle even with ThrottleStop on
-
There's always something! For me it's the temperature at which 940xm operates, it quickly hits 90C+ on standard cooling. I had to remove the bottom plate and direct some cool air at it to hit 20k CPU. So it's not realistic for day to day use but who cares, that's not our goal here.
I think realistically I can push the TDP/TDC to a level where I should hit 18k on the CPU consistently for day to day use without overheating.
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
My cooling is not day to day either....laptop is sitting on top of cryo on top of a box fan inside a chest freezer with bottom cover removed lol
will show some pics later
