No they don't
I've owned 5 ati laptops now xfire and single
-

Flickering in crossfire, unoptimized crossfire scaling, game support not as wide as nvidia, catalysts that require workarounds to install..yeah I have no love for ATi. Never had a single issue with nVidia drivers. It's too bad Dell didn't offer GTX 285M's with the M17x. -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
Nvidia has its own handful of issues. Like having to load a different driver for each benchmark you want to run because they cannot improve one without crippling another
-
Well if that's the biggest worry with nVidia's SLi, I'll be very happy.
I'm simply not impressed with ATi's mobile driver support. It would have been nice if Dell would have given us 285M SLi for more choice. DX11 to me isn't that important.

Well time to call it a night, guess I will have to go for 22k tomorrow night

Thats awesome scook
4K difference with voltage.. go for 22K
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
Oh I am. I got a few tricks up my sleeve I will be utilizing.
You are always a step ahead of me in scores though lol, I want to pass you and the 920xm! -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
Don't beat yourself up...your cpu score is ridiculous and you are off to a very good start
-
Honestly, if I can't make the GPU score to go at least 17K I won't even bother to get the CPU at 22K. So far from whatever GPU score I get, I simply add 1K and calculate my final score. That means that the only way to hit 18K final is to get 17K for the GPU.
-
I have a feeling you can do a lot better with the Qx9300 it is about equal to the 920XM. I had to start benching yesterday
I didn't want to get fallen behind with all of these new tricks.
-
Don't know if this has been said before but it'd be cool if there was a dual core leaderboard to encourage the "little guys" to bench.
I mean theres no chance that a dual core can scratch the higher quads that some of you guys have so if there was a separate league it'd give us dual-corers something to shoot for...
Thoughts? -
It has been asked before, and we are waiting for DR650SE to return so he can start the new thread
SO it can be fair towards everyone with 4870s, 5870s dauls and quads.
-
Send a pm to Jubbing he is running this thread now .
-
I also think its a good idea.
-
stop? Now disable one card and start doing single card runs.
-
LOL, Mandrake I would rather keep those final and heroic attempts when it is about time for me to get a new one...
I know I can push the CPU on Vantage to 22K and on 3DMark06 at least 400 marks further... so that's it for me. -
Higher than that. I'll see if I can find some of my G73 scores but the CPU in 06 was around 6700 and for Vantage it was 23K+.
-
Those scores are insane
but with the proper cooling I believe the R2 can achieve them as well. I don't have the necessary equipment to keep the laptop cool so I play it safe and stay with lower scores...
-
If you can find a way to get crossfire working with XP that will add another few hundred points.
-
Ok guys (and girls?), score's have been fully updated! (If I did miss a score, please PM me right away with your post details). Took me quite a while to update them and read through them haha, KEEP IT UP! (nice of you to start mass benchmarking when I take 24 hours away from this site
)
Congrats stamatisx on a fantastic few scores and topping the list, makes me jealous I'm still overseas and won't get to play with my M17x for another 15-20 days. Good job to the other people who have just manged to better their score's, or finally make it to the top 5's.
Indeed I am now
When does DR650SE ever create the threads? It's BatBoy (He's the Alienware mod)
As for suggestions, if you guys have ANY suggestions of what you would like to see, feel free to PM me (Now's the time to do it before a new thread). I'll have to discuss this with BatBoy first of course, and we'll see what best suits the benchmark threads when it's time to create a newer thread. I have a few more suggestions of my own of course. I've been wanting to give more options to shoot for, these score's feel a little constricted.
Hit me up any time! -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
Man.....I need that 22k to get my R1 into the overall top 5
-
LOL that is what its going to take from here on to keep up with those 5870s
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
Easier for you to say, you have a Core i7 cpu lol, stock with 4870s you can do 18k. My stock is 14k
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
I had promised some pictures of my benching setup, here they are lol

Mr. Fox likes this. -
-
lol, so you put the whole thing in there not just the PS.
Edit: I just noticed the box fan to, that's funny. -
I get it! So you can bench.. and cook some Pizza bites white you wait! Ingenious!
-
lawl the funny thing is that I have the same $20 galaxy fan from walmart
I know what I'm doing when I get my Cyro LX
-
Scook that setup is so funny, watching the M17x next to pizzas and ice creams LOL your HDD should report like -10C HAHAHA
-
yeah a lighter OS will give even better results
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
Windows 7 is a plenty light OS....in my benching setup it idles at 650MB memory used....that aint bad
And as for the cooling, I was relieved the box fan would fit haha (had about .5" to spare). I had to whip out the hammer and break all the ice on the sides of the freezer to make it work. The Cryo LX is just acting as a notebook stand right now unfortunately, but soon I should have the new pcb's for it so will have even more cooling!
I immensely prefer this setup to bundling up and sitting on the front porch in 10f weather in february lol - the neighbors don't look at me funny either -
I was going to mention this. Vista vs XP you'd see a big jump. 7 is fairly decent. There's acutally a few comparisons on the web and the difference isn't really worth the effort.

Aristotelhs2060 Notebook Virtuoso
well thats real time performance. if you live in Alaska. lool -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
No, if I lived in Alaska I could just go outside, wouldn't need these measures lol
I tried going outside in Wyoming last winter (right around 0 F) but let the machine get too cold before starting it so it failed to boot. You do not want these to get too cold. I have to take the laptop out of the freezer between sessions or it will get too cold and not start next time until it is warmed up. -
No problem for the laptop to warm up here, a minute in the sun should do the job right
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
Ya but in kuwait you do not have the insane humidity that I do. Once I take it out of the freezer it has to wait 7 or 8 hours to let the condensation dry before I can safely start it
-
Off topic but Kuwait is so damn hot, I would be happy if I never go there again.
-
It's not hotter than VA
100F
90% humidity
120F index ftmfw. -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
Ya va is not too cozy right now haha
Got both ac zones in the house going full blast -
IIRC Kuwait was like 120 with very high humidity. Iraq was a lot better, lol
Anything with high humidity sucks a LOT. Michigan has bad humidity, too. -
PA isn't too enjoyable atm either.
Why would you bench outside anyway
-
Just to be hardcore I bench my laptop outside in California's 90+F weather.
-
LOL 122F (50 Celsius) here
That was my last run LMAO
-
well.. I didn't feel like creating another thread with no responses, so I'll post this here.
Dell shipps 8.9 RST drivers with the M17x however 9.6 drivers have been available for quite a while.
In the picture the figures are as follows
1st- 9.6 RST drivers with write caching on
2nd 8.6 Dell drivers *this does not support write caching that I could see in the utility so it is off*
3rd 9.6 RST drivers with write caching OFF.
The results are fairly clear.. if you have any sort of RAID you *need* to update

Haha man those are some truly amazing speeds out of the Qx9300... Who would have ever thought it could ever get that high...
4166mhz crazy stuff ... -
Kinc
All the mobiles can sustain the same speeds the desktops counterparts did. Just hard to push them in a laptop ( u know that)
You truly are actually bringing me back here to try an help. I love pushing systems ... -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
Consider mine pushed!
Now focusing back on Vantage haha
