Flickering in crossfire, unoptimized crossfire scaling, game support not as wide as nvidia, catalysts that require workarounds to install..yeah I have no love for ATi. Never had a single issue with nVidia drivers. It's too bad Dell didn't offer GTX 285M's with the M17x.

Nvidia has its own handful of issues. Like having to load a different driver for each benchmark you want to run because they cannot improve one without crippling another

Well if that's the biggest worry with nVidia's SLi, I'll be very happy. :) I'm simply not impressed with ATi's mobile driver support. It would have been nice if Dell would have given us 285M SLi for more choice. DX11 to me isn't that important.

Really disappointed with the GPU score and their performance
Flashed the BIOS with 1.15V and the max clocks are 780/1100, after that it crashes during the second GPU test
I will have to stay at the 17.126 for tonight...

Honestly, if I can't make the GPU score to go at least 17K I won't even bother to get the CPU at 22K. So far from whatever GPU score I get, I simply add 1K and calculate my final score. That means that the only way to hit 18K final is to get 17K for the GPU.

I found the culprit... it was the CPU, it was draining the system out of power and the GPUs were crashing...

So, take a look at this score

I have a feeling you can do a lot better with the Qx9300 it is about equal to the 920XM. I had to start benching yesterday :p I didn't want to get fallen behind with all of these new tricks.

Don't know if this has been said before but it'd be cool if there was a dual core leaderboard to encourage the "little guys" to bench.
I mean theres no chance that a dual core can scratch the higher quads that some of you guys have so if there was a separate league it'd give us dual-corers something to shoot for...
    Thoughts?

It has been asked before, and we are waiting for DR650SE to return so he can start the new thread ;) SO it can be fair towards everyone with 4870s, 5870s dauls and quads.

TDP btw was 94 and set to a couple of multipliers lower than it can handle ;)
still room for higher scores but it becomes too dangerous, no reason for me to push it further.

LOL, Mandrake I would rather keep those final and heroic attempts when it is about time for me to get a new one... :D
I know I can push the CPU on Vantage to 22K and on 3DMark06 at least 400 marks further... so that's it for me.

Higher than that. I'll see if I can find some of my G73 scores but the CPU in 06 was around 6700 and for Vantage it was 23K+.

Those scores are insane :D but with the proper cooling I believe the R2 can achieve them as well. I don't have the necessary equipment to keep the laptop cool so I play it safe and stay with lower scores...

Ok guys (and girls?), score's have been fully updated! (If I did miss a score, please PM me right away with your post details). Took me quite a while to update them and read through them haha, KEEP IT UP! (nice of you to start mass benchmarking when I take 24 hours away from this site :p )

Congrats stamatisx on a fantastic few scores and topping the list, makes me jealous I'm still overseas and won't get to play with my M17x for another 15-20 days. Good job to the other people who have just manged to better their score's, or finally make it to the top 5's.
    Indeed I am now ;)

When does DR650SE ever create the threads? It's BatBoy (He's the Alienware mod)
As for suggestions, if you guys have ANY suggestions of what you would like to see, feel free to PM me (Now's the time to do it before a new thread). I'll have to discuss this with BatBoy first of course, and we'll see what best suits the benchmark threads when it's time to create a newer thread. I have a few more suggestions of my own of course. I've been wanting to give more options to shoot for, these score's feel a little constricted.

    Hit me up any time!

Windows 7 is a plenty light OS....in my benching setup it idles at 650MB memory used....that aint bad

And as for the cooling, I was relieved the box fan would fit haha (had about .5" to spare). I had to whip out the hammer and break all the ice on the sides of the freezer to make it work. The Cryo LX is just acting as a notebook stand right now unfortunately, but soon I should have the new pcb's for it so will have even more cooling!

I immensely prefer this setup to bundling up and sitting on the front porch in 10f weather in february lol - the neighbors don't look at me funny either

I was going to mention this. Vista vs XP you'd see a big jump. 7 is fairly decent. There's acutally a few comparisons on the web and the difference isn't really worth the effort.

No, if I lived in Alaska I could just go outside, wouldn't need these measures lol

I tried going outside in Wyoming last winter (right around 0 F) but let the machine get too cold before starting it so it failed to boot. You do not want these to get too cold. I have to take the laptop out of the freezer between sessions or it will get too cold and not start next time until it is warmed up.

Ya but in kuwait you do not have the insane humidity that I do. Once I take it out of the freezer it has to wait 7 or 8 hours to let the condensation dry before I can safely start it

well.. I didn't feel like creating another thread with no responses, so I'll post this here.

Dell shipps 8.9 RST drivers with the M17x however 9.6 drivers have been available for quite a while.

In the picture the figures are as follows

1st- 9.6 RST drivers with write caching on
2nd 8.6 Dell drivers *this does not support write caching that I could see in the utility so it is off*
3rd 9.6 RST drivers with write caching OFF.

The results are fairly clear.. if you have any sort of RAID you *need* to update :p

All the mobiles can sustain the same speeds the desktops counterparts did. Just hard to push them in a laptop ( u know that)
