You stole my freezer![]()
Remove the LCD and use only a mech. Harddrive n throw it in a freezer n leave it...
Mine ran in the freezer for 3 hours while I pushed the 5870 I had. Every run got higher even when I didn't change the clocks. The temps just helped and so I stopped ...part of me kicks myself when I think about it because I know I could of done better
-
-
Kinc hit 4ghz which was never confirmed so i dont even consider what he did to be real... Heck i fell into that BS when i got my W90 and we saw how far that went...
Thanks to Unclewebb and throttlestop everyone is pushing there machines further then ever thought possible... -

This laptop has been in the freezer for about 12 hours now haha
Just left it in during my mid day break (gf came over) to save time so I dont have to let it defrost and dry before putting back in lol
I do not think the LCD is causing me any trouble - it is freezing and therefore acts as a sink to absorb heat away from the stuff below it which is good -
The w90 is the longest standing joke. You are the reason I said that name because I knew you would say that
But now there is legitimacy to his claim
The w90 was a nice machine .....but asus ruined it -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
That was only because of that chip set....if I could do 400fsb here (dam Dell for capping it at 1333) 4 GHz would have been realized a LONG time ago
As you can see in the run he did (shown here) the voltage needed on the cpu was minimal since the FSB did all the work. I had to send my cpu voltage to the moon to be stable since lower fsbAttached Files:

-
Careful with the LCD though ... Mine did not like it ....
-
Imagine if Joker and I used a freezer.... I wonder what kind of scores could we achieve...
-
To bad the asus can't change the v core ... It could rule the 06. Due to the sheer speeds it could reach with the fsb paired with a mammoth of a heatsink it has
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
Nothing is stopping you
And my lcd should be ok, if not.....after running vantage I plan to get an exchange for an R2 anyway lol
Having no further use for this system I will cash in on the various problems it is documented to have -
Congrats scook, thats awesome for a C2E!
haha well I would never stick my system in the freezer so I'll leave that venture up to you. -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
Agreed, his cpu score is nearly as high due to the much higher memory bandwidth -
Yes but this was all supposedly done sitting on a desk in an office and not in a deep freezer with a box fan lol....
That guy never responded to any questions we had regarding the system ... There were no unlocked multis nada zip zilch.... Until i found the PLL and worked with the Setfsb creator even less was happening... Things have come so far finally... To little to late for that machine though sadly... The screen was terrible anyhow lol and you know me
...

I'd be too scared to put my laptop in my freezer, apart from the fact I don't have a massive freezer.
I do have a aircon thats portable, its its still heave that I can't be bothered moving it because its quite heavy. 16 days to go. -
Here are the links from my scores that I submitted on hwbot.org
stamatisx's 17805 marks 3DMark Vantage - Performance run with 2x Mobility Radeon HD 5870 @ 850/1100MHz
stamatisx's 23483 marks 3Dmark 2006 run with 2x Mobility Radeon HD 5870 @ 870/1100MHz -
@scook9 How did you do it
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
did you see my cpu clock? lol
-
C'mon, you can push it to 5ghz on air easily
Nice score, Scook!
Your CPU is on par with 940XM, lol. At least in 06. -
i would like to a cpu/gpu separating the Dual Core i series from the quad core cpus on the R2, platform ranking as well, its impossible for those of us without the quad core cpus to compete for the overall #1 spot, but as you can tell from my scores, we can push the machine using different methods, which in my opinion is more fun. i would like to see some of the other lower config owners try to see what they can get out of there machines, but if theres no "reward" then i doubt many will
@Scook, Awesome score! -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
How stable was your GPU at those clocks? From seeing that and what CodeBreaker was able to do I am wondering what is different between the R1 and R2 4870s
I (and several others) could not take the R1 4870s past 675 core for the life of me. I may try putting the R2 vbios on my cards but I remember trying that in the past killed my crossfire (may have just needed a driver reinstall though)
Is there any sort of part number on your boards that I can compare to mine? Are they still red and made by ATI directly or some OEM like foxconn? -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
Jubbing, can you get your post moved to sit right after or before Mandrakes on the first page? Would be nicer than having to click again to get there. BatBoy should be able to do this I think
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
Where is everyone tonight?!
Anyways....running Vantage tonight and so far favorable results! Of course....CodeBreaker is just a hair ahead of me again
Will get you all some scores shortly
-
Scook the next step is to run a couple of benchmarks on linux
-
Imagine how the lesser cpu usage would effect the 06 scores.
-
I just installed Ubuntu and I will try to run the phoronix test suit and see what score will I get with the 10.6 drivers (yes in linux they installed just fine and crossfire works as well)
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
Hmmmm. That is indeed interesting

As promised, a good day for Vantage. Would have liked 15k, but no tricks up my sleeve like 06 lol
Was a good run, one of those times when you actually get your best CPU and GPU in the same run (never seems to happen for me)
P14844
GPU: 14563
CPU: 15756Attached Files:

-
LOL, you got a better score in 06
I havent tried much since then but i think a better GPU OC is possible but no more than that
Thats a great run, awesome GPU score, better than mine anyways. -
-
Well the M15x thread works like this where the score's aren't on the first page, so no need quite yet. As for moving it, with a new thread possibly being on the horizon, I think we can wait for now, Then I'll place it right under batboy's post.
-
Hi all! Been reading these forums for guite some time now, but have never posted due to the wealth of information already available. Have been into overclocking for about a year now and thought I would post up my latest results. These runs were on my desk with just a laptop stand and ambient air cooling.

Thats a pretty nice score
-
What is Vantage resolution you are doing benchies on?
-
The default I hope, 1280x1024. Anything else is not admissible.
-
JeepinJake
Great score i5 520M got some poke init
-
Whilst using throttlestop and setFSB, Has anyone experienced throttling on the first and last core?
I'm just hoping its not the thermal paste again...
-
run wprime 155 in 1024 with 4 cores 8 threads
run real temp side by side
see if any of the cores spike...this should give you a good idea of what is going on. -
Speedy Gonzalez Xtreme Notebook Speeder!
i tough i saw everything
-
I had real temp running and all cores hit above 90 (96, 96, 96, 93) and it ws in the fridge... so not quite sure but I'll check it later... but those are really high but the TDP/TDC is something new i havent tested.
-
My PSU, just wouldnt work 5 minutes ago
Im hoping i didnt ruin something -
The ThrottleStop MHz are not accurate when using SetFSB. ThrottleStop uses some timers within the CPU that I assume can get screwed up when using SetFSB. I haven't had the time to look into this yet.
In the ThrottleStopBeta download is another program called i7 Turbo GT. Can you try running this when testing to see what it reports for your multipliers. Send me a screen shot of that. When running 8 threads of wPrime or Prime95, all threads should be reporting the same multiplier.
WARNING: Increasing TDP/TDC or your maximum turbo multipliers can be dangerous to the health of your laptop. One user has already reported a major problem. If he's lucky, maybe he only killed the power adapter. If he wasn't lucky, he might have just fried his motherboard.
-
I would hope everyone knows about the dangers of overclocking, and of raising the saftey net on these systems, otherwise they have what's commng to them.
-
I know that is dangerous and it requires some serious cooling when doing so
I think either my PSU has reached its limit with these clocks or I have to reapply my thermal paste... I had to apply it twice, once was because the factory did not tighten the screws, and the second time, it was because of the crappy thermal paste i used. Will do a few tests to check if its still okay.
-
Well if they don't they should'nt be messing anyway obvious .

I had a scare with my psu last night. It randomly cut out and was not drawing power (led was not coming on). I unplugged it and the took out the ac plug on the brick and made sure it and the laptop end were clear of condensation then it worked again. Watch for condensation people!
-
Thats exactly what i was facing but it wasn't condensation the PSU was out of the fridge. But just removing the PSU cnnector from the outlet for about 20 seconds and then plugging it back in did the job.
-
You can use plasteline clay to cover as much exposed circuit area as possible in order to avoid unwanted vapors to short-circuit the motherboard or the GPUs. Too much work though
-
my R1 PSU would do that and I never even overclocked it. Tell Dell you need a new PSU..
-
When a laptop PSU gets overloaded, it shuts down. Usually power cycling it on and off by unplugging it is enough to get it going again like you discovered TheCodeBreaker.
The user that might have damaged his board had a Sager 8760 so I just wanted to warn you guys not to get too carried away. Actually, the warning was directed more towards casual readers of this forum. The guys with their laptops in their freezer are already well aware that they've probably gone a little too far.
No one sets a world record at anything by playing it safe. -
Unlcewebb, your application rocks, really appreciated man.
I agree those who want to experiment should be prepared for that kind of failures. They force a machine to operate beyond it's safe limits.
This program provides a way to exceed those limits and shouldn't be used without caution.
Even though my vantage score was achieved by playing it safe...(I don't know if it's a world record or not)
-
very nice !you got me by 400 points or so, ill have to re-run 06 with my newer gpu clocks. see if you can get 13k vantage ive been close but not yet, got 14k vantage gpu score though...
