I thought I would tell you guys that I'm not recording anying non vantage/06 scores.for what its worth I cbf testing *everything* lol. Ill get my scores up just you all wait (side note)
-
using msconfig sets it as is.
in your case you have 8 processes
so if you set it to 2 processes you will have 2 cores 2 threads
if you set 4 processes...you will have 2 cores and 4 threads..do you understand it now?
if you set 6, you will get 3/6?
when setting it this way...technically...you should be able to get full turbo on both cores... technically..i guess we'll find out in about 5 minutes when you try it....
-
So does turning hyperthreading off leave it running without the turbo boost mulitpliers? Or leave it running as a dual core? When I had it running in dual core (msconfig) mode, i had it set to four processors. It was 2 cores, 4 threads.
Is that the best way to run 3DMark05? -
Whoops, I didn't read enough before I responded, just saw johns explaination. So two cores actually equals two threads? How does two threads stack up to two physical cores?
Hmm, I'm going to give this a few runs... -
It doesnt quiet work that way through msconfig from my experience... If i select 4 processes it would be 2 cores and 4 threads and if i select 2 it would become 1 core and 2 threads.. is that the same thing you have going on DR650SE?
-
I think so. I havn't tried it tonight, but when I first started benching a few weeks ago, I set it to four in msconfig as I was running through SSD optimization steps, figure it's a quad core, set it to four processors, and it was actually running two cores, four threads. msconfig treats each thread as a core, so you max is 2/4.
-
hummm, now that is interesting...let me try a few things to see if i get that with mine.
edit:
ok, my laptop will run
1/1
1/2
2/4
it wont do 2/2
all my desktop boards will.
so you can try proccess affinity and see what happens there.
edit:
but it will let me do 2/3 go figure???????????
-
hmm thats odd.

What do you guys think of having a, say, a 50Mhz core/memory overclock all of the time? Or do you think these cards came already running optimal clocks for everyday use? I've been wanting to do this.
-
the3vilGenius 3vil knows no fear
Last thing i remember is alienware playing it very safe these days so i would GEUSS it would run better.

I see you are going to make me work CodeBreaker!
Guess I will have to go back into my freezer now and reclaim that gold cup in 05! Between you and Katiephil I got my hands full!
Really need to figure out a workaround for this memory bandwidth BIOS issue
-
Just keeping things interesting
I know how you like challenges
05 was pretty easy, one run off my desk with 26 multipliers although the trick was to decrease the gpu clocks...
Besides you got me beat in 06 and i dont think i can get any higher... for now
And i thought katiephil was a chick
-
looking at all these first at this list...i should do me one..
first 11k vantage dual
first vantage 7k single
first 1920x1200 screen in a dv9000
first x9000 in a gateway fx
first x9650 in a clevo d901c
first blind flash on a dv9000
first blind flash on a gateway fx
first 13k single gpu score in 3dmark06
and the list goes on....lol -
lol where did you find that list
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
he made it
those are all things he did -
lol
yeah, what mr cook said.
and he has long growing list himself. -
wow thats impressive
got tired of benching the m17x, cuz i think i did everything except for pifast and aquamark
trying to bench the m1330 and the ASUS eee
People actaully benched it on there got the cpu to 1.035GHz
-
now your getting into the spirit of things.
that's what me and scook are doing...giving our main rigs a rest to bench other projects. -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
I have been resting too long lol
Back to work for me! -
Aristotelhs2060 Notebook Virtuoso
dont know. looks like to me that with so many tweaks, modifications, so much time spending and stuff you just buy a high end machine only for benchmarking and nothing else
the only good point for me is that even under those conditions your machines are still alive.
-
LOL isnt that the point... to see if they can still be alive
-
Aristotelhs2060 Notebook Virtuoso
yes! at least if i am not the tester.

New fun score. I'll try some seriosu benching with an aircon tomorrow. This one was Just for fun (no kidding) Here's how I had fun
The ice had a dramatic decrease in minimum temps, and slightly helped with the top temps. However the downside is I'm currently waiting for more ice to freeze since it pretty much melted
I wasn't too impressed with the increase though. I would have expected slightly higher than 200 points!Attached Files:

Jubbing, thats kinda how I broke 22K for the CPU score. Except I had the system down to exposed heatsinks, and had saran warpped ice cubes sitting on the heatsink, with thick paper towels to catch condensation. Actually they were taped to the heatsinks and leak proof. Thats all while I had the air conditioner going full blast on the bottom. I also had an 18K overall that run. Ice was on cpu and gpu heasinks. By the end of the run it was simply bags of cool water. Makes be want a copper cup and some Dice or LN2.
-
I have a friend that has some cups made out of aluminum. When she gave me a drink in one and the outside was colder than what was inside, I thought of you guys. Fill the cup with ice, something to absorb the condensation...
-
Liquid nitrogen works better
Dry Ice works too.. but I mean COMEON.. thats way to extreme.. not like we're going for desktop world records lol.
Bags of ice thing could work, I've got a very powerful aircon, that gets down to about 15 celcius, and I plan to do some stuff, but maybe not as much as you DR haha. Im fiddling with some aliminium in the freezer right now.
Maybe I'll ask my dad, he's an engineer. He might have some ideas. -
I was looking at cups, Aluminum would be good too, copper is much better though for heat transfer. But man some of those desktop benching set ups are insane. I'm going for notebook world records! hahaha
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
Laptop world records are fun indeed!
I had one for like...1 month lol. The month that I had a higher vantage score than Mandrake with the GTX 280m's -
Haha nice, those things must have been seriously pushed. Increased voltage? Anywhere I can submit laptop based records? Or just HWBot? Which I think I'm going to set up tonight.
BTW, Do I need to join a NBR team on HWbot? -
So took it with another spin. Still without an aircon. With the help of ice trays, icicle sticks, and for some weird reason, a bag of frozen peas.. I managed to lower the max temps and put up a fairly ok score. And yes.. the computer was propped up by 2 cans of coconut milk. Who says going in the kitchen isn't fun!
Still not quite happy with the performance this thing should be shooting out at my ranges (My comp keeps BSOD'ing whenever I try to raise the memory clock higher than 1150.. which is retarded).
Still I've hit 18k, I'd hope for more tomorrow.Attached Files:

I had them at 1.17V I believe, 680 core 1700 shader 1080 memory. Remember, that is back when the GTX 280m's were the best laptop GPU (the W90 had 4870s but they sucked)
you do not have to join a team at all
me and John are in EVGA enthusiasts -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
1150 is as high as I can take my GDDR3, I know it is different chips but I would not expect you to be able to go much further
then again, just saw where DR took his up to....wow lol -
Thats EXACTLY why I wanted to take mine higher lol. I reckon with the help of the aircon, it might push higher...
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
Memory likes cooling lol
Keep pushing! It is hard for me having to sit on the sidelines with all this record business going on! Back before the R2 was out I was a contender haha -
Yea, these cards can clock. Too bad I can't push to 1.2v. I'm going ot have to try 1.17, though I'm not sure it will boot. I BSOD at 1.2v
-
TurbodTalon Notebook Virtuoso
What can be used to cool a laptop? There's not much room for anything. Can't condensation become an issue by slapping it in the freezer? I had my ambient really low, and my laptop sitting on the AC vent with the bottom off. What are you guys using?
-
I'm not putting them ANY higher than 1.15v thank you very much
I'll give it a break for tonight, this bad boy needs a rest.
I feel like i'm gonna be pretty dissapointed if my aircon score's suck, but least I can take suffice from the fact these scores are 8000 points better than my best M15x score (although that was only a 820QM)!
-
TurbodTalon Notebook Virtuoso
I can score pretty close to my record with just a fan blowing at the bottom from my notebook cooler. So don't be too disappointed if your score doesn't skyrocket with colder air.
1.15 is the highest I can go. I tried several increments above it, but just a BSOD resulted. -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
Condensation is not a worry in the freezer because they have a dehumidifier in them. When you take the laptop out of the freezer however you have to wait about 6 hours at least to let it defrost as the condensation will them stick to it and short something. That is why I always have to end the day with a freezer session, need a long warm up period afterwards. And do not let the laptop get too cold while it is off or it will not start. I always start mine as soon as putting in the freezer or it fails to post.
And as for the 1.17V, that was on the GTX 280m cards, they are not radeons lol. I can't go past 1.15V on my radeons (although I wish I could!) -
Yea true.. but I did see a significant jump when I was benching on my M15x, as you can see here, temps were extremely low. I was unable to really go past 900/905 in my clock speed, until I put the aircon on, directly onto the back of the M15x, and managed to hit a clock speed of 935 in vantage. That was without ever removing the back of the M15x, so I could have pushed it even furthur had I not been selling it. (And yes, thats still the best 820QM CPU score for a M15x
... what.. I can't brag?)
So while it might not be the same for the M17x, I'm only going on past results. -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
More cooling will always allow you to go further, fear not! Especially with these i7 chips having a thermal throttle built in
-
Yea, I think the thermal throttle is to low for my taste, although good to know intel has my back. I'd probably burn out this chip
-
What's the highest you've got your GPU clock so far without BSOD DR?
I'll plan how to keep increasing my score, so far my plan is to trap as much of the cool air as i can and direct it towards the back, but I'm hesitant to take the back off yet. Obviously it being winter here in Australia helps, but not by much, a stock run in winter (room temp about 15 celcius/ 49F) didn't really keep the heat down. It get's hot up to 45 C in summer sometimes here (about 115 Farenheit) (even hotter inside sometimes with no air flow), so you can be sure I'll never be benching in those conditions. So if anything, now is the time to get my benching OUT of my system, or risk having this laptop burn out or just plain die. -
The highest I've gotten so far is the 935/1270, although I didn't play around as much as I should. I was upping it by abotu 5MHz at a time. I need to do it by 1MHz at some point, but I mived rooms and the A/C is in an inconvieniant location so it's a PITA now. Thats benching with an A/C, and in Baghdad. Here it's getting to 120*F everyday and in the evening cools down to about 90*F. Come winter in Ohio, I might be able to score higher.
-
Yea can't argue with Iraqi weather. All I know is the dry heat here kills my tech products. Just ask my HTC Touch Diamond that overheated one day.. RIP. That's why i'm seriously looking at a notebook cooler.
I never have the aircon and laptops in the same room though, during summer, its only when benching do they meet lol. I've basically missed the main winter here, its getting warmer now, least it was hitting 32F or something during the min. Its not Ohio I think.. but I would have loved to have tried the aircon with those temps. -
Yea, I'm excited to see how much of an increase I'll get. I'm sure it'll be small, but every bit helps.
Scook, I found the submit button! Good for .8 pts with my Inspiron 1720
The don't have any of the M11x Hardware
SU7300 or GeForce GT 335M, whos attention can I bring to this to add it in?
-
To whoever's winning the M11x benching thread
-
lol, I'm submitting all my top benches to HWBot.org Finally got around to creating an account. taking a night off of benching. lol I'm so out of touch on the M11x R2.
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
If you have screenshots and orb links for the scores you can submit them to the bot
I submitted all of my M17 and GTX 280m stuff after the fact -
Yea, I submitted M17x R! and Inspiron 1720 screen shots. Might have to put the 520 CPU back in and run through the rest of the tests.
