ac mods is of course the easiest of cooling mods for laptops...getting in there and running something like a small water block connected to a chiller running at 32F would sure enough give you a 90 percent maximum performance bench....to get 100 percent...you would need to be something like -30C..(speculation on the exact temps) and that includes:
re modified heat sinks & add on copper.
now, if the test blacks out...then you would need voltage...and you could safely say...you're damn near at the cards max output for that voltage
the desktop cards clock pretty high on regular voltage (non extreme voltage) as well..when water cooled/ss/ln2/lhe/dice
dont see why the notebook version would be any different.

Just bought a bunch of new goodies. Hopefully the copper tape is at least 90% cu, I plan to wrap the sinks with it to increase cooling surface area. Going to do the retention mod like Ash and others are doing so I got me some new MX-3. Figured compressed air cans were a giant waste of money since they lose pressure quite easily and they run out too often so I bought a high pressure vacuum. Got me a plastic tool to use for the M17x while I was at it:

cu foil tape? that sounds genius! lol let us know if you can find a msds on it that says what purity is it.

Did some crysis benchmark's using the crysis bench test thingo. Score's were on stock clocks.. well 705/1000.
I did a bunch of different tests, all at Very High Settings, and 1920x1200. 3 tests at 0x AA, 8x AA, 16Qx AA!
So I've attached 3 files.
-First file is a word document with the whole test details if anyone is interested. ( Word Document)
-Second File is the attached picture related to the word document. ( Picture 1)
-Third file is just a comparison of how the FPS are in 800x600 versus 1920x1200 lol. (It was my first test run, so pointless) (no AA in these tests).( Picture 2)
Conclusion? The M17x can run the game at Very High Settings in 1920x1200 mode without Overclocking, but if you want to get the best out of it, you're gonna have to Overclock it up a bit to get a decent FPS. Don't even bother with anything more than 2x AA lol. 16Qx AA rendered the game unplayable pretty much at 23FPS.. not quite a fun time with it.Attached Files:

Aristotelhs2060 Notebook Virtuoso
for those interested the new dell beta driver seems to block running ati winflash
-
Why would you even want to run ati winflash?
-
Aristotelhs2060 Notebook Virtuoso
you ask me? hehe
i personally get a blue screen after playing games for a while with the error atikmpag.sys, so i tried to reflash the vbios (if this fixes anything) -
are you running ATI winflash directly or using it with RBE?
-
yeah why use win flash? just flash the bios in dos using a bootable usb drive its much safer and way easier.
-
Scook, just wondering can we add a single 4870 section on hwbot, and how do we get around doing that?
And i just noticed something, aquamark (and i think 3dmark01 too) seems to be pulling from 1 gpu, seeing as it does better with one card rather than when crossfire is enabled, anyway to enable it using two cards?
I've gone past katiephil's overclock on both cpu and gpu and it still wont do any better, all the more reason to think its pulling from one gpu. -
Aristotelhs2060 Notebook Virtuoso
directly through windows. anyway i uninstalled the ati driver and then ati winflash worked.
however i stll get this atikmpag.sys error on blue screen
during playing games (with dell beta driver)
any clues on this? i use stock clocks
is there anything wrong with my gpus? if yes i ll call Dell to replace the gpus. -
Considering the amount of problems with the Dell betas... I would say you should revert back to the 8.692s before drawing any conclusions..
-
@TheCodeBreaker, just disable crossfire, and have it in your screenshot. It should be in gpu-z anyway, and select single GPU rather then 2x gpus
-
and just what is your score?
edit:
technically...he is listed in the wrong section....
he should be listed as 2x gpu and not 1x
so you can flag his score and the mods will remove till it's fixed or you can ask him to resubmit...
i see two golds sitting there...lol -
I also found a post of mine that was in the wrong section. Going to be correcting it tonight, so I had to rerun Vantage to get the gold cup. Took two runs, but now I'm running vantage again with 2x gpus and have been able to clock the GPUs even higher. Now I'm fighting the CPU
-
say, who was the coder in this group and who knows java coding inside and out?
that's what the hold up on the laptop section is...and im not sure if they are talking about laptop parts or laptops as a whole unit. probably laptop parts in the end and you can name your laptop...guessing. -
dont flash through windows, its always been problematic. use the bootable usb drive method, its much more reliable.
-
This one is 3dmark01, my highest run so far.
ANd this one is aqua, same cpu clock but the gpu was at 715+/1145.
When i had crossfire enabled it would drop to around 150,000. I know it isnt my cards seeing as it does well in 06. Im thinking its probably something with crossfire going to the same clock speed as the other card.
When submitting the score, the only one available is 4870X2, wouldnt that make the 2X gpu submission 4 cards? -
I've tripped my PSU twice in the last 10 min.
And my GPU's are clocked higher then ever at this point.
Edit: err make that three times... -
LOL, they need better PSUs for these things
atleast as an option for us
EDIT: Im guessing the 4870X2 1XGPU is for a single card, and the 4870X2 2XGPU is for daul cards, but then im going to have to resubmit my scores again, and get a moderator to delete everyone elses submission?? -
lol, i know. I gotta figure something out, because if I can do it, I'll up my score for sure
-
now there you go add libbing..lol
it says video card 1 and if you click the drop down..it goes up to 4
and i already explained that 4870x2 is the same as single card..lol
and drop the lod to gain the few extra points to beat him. or lower your gpu and raise the cpu.
if your using win 7, you need to alt tab out of bench and enable all cores, then alt tab back in and run the bench.(if you aren't doing that already)
try with the battery out -
Been doing that all night, steadily lowering my CPU settings, I'm definately not setting any CPU records, just hoping the GPU can pull, enough to bring the scores up, though I doubt it'll be enough.
-
what are you benching now?
edit:
looks like vantage.
so lower your cpu for the time being and see what is the highest you can complete Van/gpu test 1 2 at. -
Yea, thats what I'm trying to do. Soon as I cvan get my A/C to kick back on lol. Got to cold around the A/C
-
pull the temp sensor off if you can get to it. they usually stick it to the condenser or something like that...that should keep the thing going indefinitely.
-
Yea, I'm thinking about it. But right now I have it sectioned off so the air it sucks in is seperate from what it outputs.

Nice Run DR650SE
Real close to that 19K... and i like that background, my favorite
-
Lol thanks. I just tripped the power brick several more times. I'm close to giving up. Sucking too much power. GPU's at 1.15v and not even messing with the CPU and it's tripping. Maybe I have a bad outlet. Well calling it a night here
-
that's a good idea.
no kill-o-watt meter handy?
looking like it's time for a bigger psu....
looking good on the score by the way! -
I actually ordered one earlier today from newegg, seeing as how I am hitting the PSU limits, I decided I needed to get one to determine where exactly I can cut power and what is causing it to trip.
I was also looking at dice cups, some knead eraser and insolation... -
geez i cant keep up any more. nice scores DR!
-
Thanks Clever, I did some calculations and to get a 20K score, I would need around 22K CPU score + 19,5 on the GPU. Looking like it's probably not possible given the voltage and PSU limits.
-
use this score as a placer...
this link is better -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
Aint quite apples to apples John haha
-
do you see any one else scoring 19k gpu for a laptops?
no. this is just to get an idea of where he would need to be to get the numbers he is looking for.
i never said it was a direct comparison..it's a get an idea comparison.
-
Thanks John, I actually have an excel spread sheet at home for the futuremark programs. I need to post it for everyone. It has all the formulas so you just punch in the numbers and it generates a final score. Messed with it at work today.
-
damn, i need a copy of that. i had the program for 3dmark06, but never really investigated vantage...just went buy...the higher you gpu score was, the more points you got.
-
lol, I'll be sure to email it to myself off my work computer and then post it up here. Its pretty handy.
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
Look back where I was posting my new vantage scores. I linked to the futuremark white paper that shows the formulas for calculating the vantage scores. Is how I figured that my best CPU and gpu runs would have given me P15001 lol
That really tortures me haha -
damn, and you didnt even tell a guy. and here i thought we were buddys/pals/friends/homies/comrades/compradres & etc, etc...lol
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
Well we can still be friends. Link for vantage score In my sig haha
-
your link goes to the top of this page..for me?
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
Well it works for me. Goes to the post where I first showed my vantage high score. In that post there is a link to the whitepaper.
-
a better question...does sam's link work for anyone else?
it takes me to dr650se's post. *scratching head* -
Lol I believe the link is HERE
Glad I could help. -
thank you sir.
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
Well it works for me on the linux box at work AND on my Android phone......also works on my laptop with windows....cleared your cache john?
lol -
Hmm, which post is that?
I now the futuremark score calculation spread sheet. PM me with an email address and I'll send it out. NBR wont let me attach a .xsl document
