My volume keys work without any issues but I do not have any macro keys made so I don't know if that works.



Also I saved up the money for the second guild but I cannot send mail/money to cross faction characters so I need to find somebody who has money and wants to trade with my character thats on the republic side.

IE: Somebody who wants to make a new character on the republic side and has money on the other side.

*Edit* I got my volume keys working by launching the OSD as admin by checking run program as an administrator. Now just trying to figure out how to get rid of the UAC message on startup.

I'm getting strange, erratic performance in this game. And it's lame because I've been waiting on pins and needles for this game for years now.

Sometimes I'll be at 70-110 frames all the time pretty much, even in the middle of a graphically intense city with tons of stuff around with max graphical settings, but then there's other times I can't really get above 30 in really dull areas with nothing around. And no matter what I do I can't get the FPS to go up. Even if I take the resolution from max to almost nothing + turn all graphic settings to minimum + zoom up on the floor, my frames won't go over 35 or so. I have dual 6990m's.

If someone out there is getting solid, reliable FPS 60+ all the time with their m18x on this game, can you please tell me which drivers you are using?

I'm using catalyst 11.10

 

could it be the server load is too high? you 6990m's should be able to handle it easy.

Im getting really poor performance in SWTOR since carrying out a clean install on my laptop yesterday.

but it has just hit me here at work that i didnt re-install DirectX since carrying out the re-install. Can i suggest that any others try this out. if your having performance drops/low fps re-install DXweb update.

I will try it on my machine when i get home this evening fingers crossed thats what it is. I canna think of what else it could be as thats the only thing i havent re-installed.

 

Though I am not on the server with the rest of you (I have a Empire guild of my own) I just wanted to say I just finished Act I of the Sith Inquisitor storyline.

I already have a Padawan of my own as a Jedi Guardian

 

I too experience such behaviour and with Nvidia cards, it's clearly a bug, as soon as you go to the options and change any GFX settings and apply the issue resolves itself, just add or remove bloom or anything else, any change will do, that fix works for me.

 

I now have command center and the volume key controls set to run as admin and it works fine now.

 

so how is the game? im a star wars fan, played wow, but dont know if i should get it. hows the play?

 

That only works sometimes for me, unfortunately.

 

The game is amazing when my machine is running it at 110 frames. When it runs at 20 I want to shoot myself.

 

It seems like everybody is having similar issues so i'm sure a fix will be out soon

I just purchased the game about 20 minutes ago, and I am downloading the game client now. I'll let ya know how it turns out! Woo gonna be a long night haha.

I wish that were the case bigtony, but all of my guild mates are running the game fine with no issues whatsoever.

Or do you think it's an ATI mobile driver issue? Cuz none of my guild mates are using a laptop.

 

yea might be a driver issue, you know how AMD drivers are....

 

Game becomes addictive (like most good ones) with some good story lines and a lot of variety. There are also some boring parts and a few jerks. 99% of the time people will help you randomly however.

My volume keys do not work in game either. Lots of short cuts and keys to learn. The lore and stories are like crack to the movie and book fans!

Be sure to pre-order the Darth Plageius (Sids master) book out next month, fyi.

Level 14 Sith Inquisitor on the Sorsorer track thus far. My two boys are Sith warriors.

I don't know what to tell you since I am getting 110-120 FPS constantly except when I am on a speeder bike then it drops to 40-60 but taxi's work fine without any drop on FPS.

 

Yeah sorry that my plains failed on the guild front for the empire but I really want to play that side. If you guys set a guild up ill join it!

Anyone else get blocky shadows as a result of xfire being enabled?

If I disable xfire in 12.1 profiles shadows are nice and smooth. If I enable xfire (1x1, or default) the shadows look block and are annoying. I think I'm forcing 2 or 4xAA so the framerate is hovering around 40ish with only one card. Soon as the shadow issue is resolved it will be flawless.

I have to admit with the exception of the enormous download on a crap connection it's playing very well (latency is lower than WOW... never expected that). I also love the voice acting as I can be sarcastic and the responses are quite funny.

I am unable to play my included 30 days of game time until I provide Bioware with my private credit card information and sign up for a subscription beyond my included 30 days?

What if I am uncertain if I like the game enough to pay $15/month additional and require my included 30 days to decide? I guess I could cancel before 30 days but I don't want them to have my private information (to be potentially stolen or my address so they can spam mail me offers for the prima guide, etc...) unless I stay longer term.

Why was this not disclosed when I bought the game? While I understood that a subscription was required if I chose to continue beyond my included 30 days, I did not know my 30 days would be held hostage until I disclosed my credit card information (and we know how secure these websites are) and purchased an extended subscription.

Anyone else perturbed? I realize some will see this as over reacting but I hate big companies craping on us and abusing our privacy.

 

I am not sure what to tell you since I pretty much gave them my credit card info during the early release stage!

I did not have to give them anything to play but I knew I wanted to play it so I was pre-emptive.

 

Mainly just venting to my guild guys....

 

Slightly annoying but I think when I played Rift it was the same thing. I just gave them the visa gift card number and that was enough to let me continue playing (only had a few bucks on it after buying the digital CE).

 

I know they don't charge you until the 30 days are up and you can cancel the sub right after you make it (within your trial) and you will continue playing for the 30 days.

 

Ya I think it's just to verify the card and that's about it.

Saw your post on their site. Please let us know how it goes, Been playing both sides so far, but I want to get going with a good darkside guild that has some knowledgeable and friendly vets that can help an mmo noob like me out.

I switched to bounty hunter from SI sorcerer level 17 for a change up. Missions getting hard without group/ guild. Will advise tony.

Tony, what are your screen names for your two characters on the nadist rebels server? The three of us will friend your name so we will know when we are each online. The three of us just started as bounty hunters. The four of us would be "a force"...

I applied for The Dark guild which is the largest guild in SWTOR over 300 members. It takes three days to hear back from them and most are put on a waiting list... Will let you know as we might need a member to recommend us so if I get in I will recommend alienware folks prn.

 

Dont forget to get me in there... as well. Dont want to be left out - Im on the server as well.

One of us is going to get into an empire guild sooner or later and then invite the rest. I am still waiting on the dark guild reply.

It stinks that which ever guild will be on a different server and we will have to start from scratch.

Perhaps if all of us queried all naddist rebel dark side players about their guild semi obnoxiously from a repeated methodical perspective, we might get a dark guild on naddist server!

That empire guild looks like its full of pro's, once we figure out the guild to aim for ill have to power level a bounty hunter or warrior up for that server. Would be easier if you could transfer characters between server's but i doubt that will happen any time soon

 

well since a bunch of you guys have played on the dark side dont you have 5k credits? All we need is 4 or 5 people and 5k credits to make our own guild.

I want to start playing on the dark side so all we need is somebody with the money and all of us to get on at the same time.

 

No doubt they will eventually let you switch servers for a big fat FEE Tony.

I don't want to be in a small guild, Oni. We have waited this long, and I personally want a significant number of expert guns on my team to teach and fight. I don't see a downside to being in a guild with 100 people or so. The handful of us here, while fun and like minded, will likely fizzle out after several months while a big guild is far less likely too.

If my reasoning is ignorant let me know as I have not done any MMO's before.

FYI, 5000 credits is hugh for me. I did get that much once and expanded my inventiory size which was absolutely necessary on Korriban. Have not broken 3000 credits since and currently have less than 2000...

 

Have you gotten your crew skills yet? If you havent, once you get there, you can get the slicer skill and make lots of cash

 

I am totally backwards with my skills, moding my weapons, and "don't even know what I don't know" which is why I want to be part of a team/guild!

Good ideas all Tony, as I have seen general chat about slicing and crew skills but had/have no clue. We bought a SWTOR guide book from Gamestop thinking it was like a Prima Guide that wiped your butt for you but it was a lame artzy guide to suck xmas cash only.

Got to level 18 on Balmorra last night with help from two guild members from Quebec! Learned about PVP icon on bottom right of screen (never new that) and using whirlwind move to tie up one enemy while killing a second. Also think I learned that the Heroic 2 and Heroic 4 missions tell you that 2 or 4 people are suggested to beat the mission if I understood correctly.

I guess I need to do what I never do and read the directions but where are they? The wiki is woefully incomplete.... Any good reference/tip site suggestions?

 

Yes those are all valid points. Also keep in mind that pvp is a good way to make cash and xp.

I am lvl 25 and let me point out that when you hit 25 your class skill trainer npc will teach you the riding skill. That costs 40k to train and you will need another 8k to get a bike. If you have the collectors ed you get a special bike for free.

At lvl 25 those speeder bikes increase your movement speed by 90% so save up those credits!

As far for big guilds there are only two ways you can join them.

a) You have a high lvl job that they need.

b) You know one of the leaders from a previous game.

So since you need somebody to teach you the basics you need to find any guild that is populated.

All the big guilds act like huge companies, they want the best and they will nit pick at your resume. Then they add you as a temp member and if you mess up one time your out.

I prefer to find a guild that has people you can joke around in and have fun. I have been playing MMO's for over 10 years actively and I have played every MMO I could get my hands on so I have seen how guilds/Linkshells work.



PS: Do not lvl up any skills until you get your 4th npc. At that time your making 100k credits from questing/killing and you can lvl skills up FAST!

So get your speeder first then waste cash around.

Ok. Did PVP, kicked Buttocks and have just over 5000 credits.

First, how do I make an Empire Alienware guild? First ten are officers. Need at least ONI, tony and matrix plus my boys for 6 to start.
