Ordered on the 22nd and got it on the 30th.

Installed Kingston HyperX Plug n Play 8GB (4GBx2) 204-Pin DDR3 1866MHz Ram.

Installed all Windows 7 professional software updates and played Black Ops last Night. Solid, Stable and runs 95 plus FPS right out of the box. Very Pleased.

Anyone ordering in uk be aware ! These guys are a joke. They charge us more than usa and canada. They dont let you specify wireless HD. They dont let you customise your name plate. when you ring them, they fob you off. when you email them they dont respond, you contact customer service they tell you what you want ot hear and then do the oposite.

This has let a nasty taste in my mouth.

spending 3k on this laptop and they dont give a damn

Just unboxed my 18x and started a RMA. One of my 6970s heats up really quick so I'm going to return and wait a week to see if they announce the 6990 or I'll just order a 580

 

Cool idea, I'm kinda hoping the same thing happens to me............ kinda lol.

 

Arrived in good shape, nothing to complain about there. Unfortunatly they did not set up a RAID0 config, so I have to reinstall everything. Ah well, I'd rather have a clean Windows then a OEM install.

Soon checking hardware to see if everything will run smooth

 

How can they still be sending these things out with the raid not configured? I understand something may have been missed in the process during the hectic product release, but it's been months. People are paying money for something and not receiving it.

I'm supposed to get mine in a couple weeks. We'll see if they beat that time.

Darnit all to friggin heck, I'm back on team AW. I just broke down and ordered an m18x. The 6990 should be about as fast as dual desktop 5850s and that's enough for me to replace my desktop... at $500 too good an option to pass up.

Got a super-ric-dickulous price I just couldn't pass up and free 1-day shipping (rep gave this to me without any prompting). It's like they're giving these things away (or, at least, that's what I'm trying to convince myself having dropped a couple Gs on a toy). Ordered this morning and the sucker's already in production.

Also, how should the 6990s do with gaming at 2560x1600? I plan on attaching it to my 3008wfp a good amount of time.

 

Wow, I just went on Dell Canada and I can order an m18x with 1.5t raid 0 and a dual 580m for the same price of my previous order.... My order is supposed to be shipped in 2 days... I'll just send it back and order with dual 580m... This is ridiculus...

Can I do something even though my order is in production? Or I'll need to wait to receive my m18x and just return it to Dell?

Edit: There was an error on the website. They were showing 580m instead of 460m Haha

 

Waiting on a NEW replacement from Dell/Alienware. Not sure why it is taking over a week in order to ship it. Here is the New replacement they are sending me... (It took a lot of calls and talking to get this config)

Sounds pretty good to me but I will believe it when I see it arrive in one piece.

Oh yea, they were going to send me a Space Black casing but I argued about that since it would show nothing but fingerprints and smudges. Had to go with the Nebula Red. Altough I would have loved to have the Silver like that of my M17x R2.

 

My replacement was in "production" and I still called and had them change the GPU's, RAM, and casing color.

I just received my m18x today!!!! Everything is good except one thing, when I put a window in fullscreen, I get a black line on top of my screen.

 

Update drivers, then see if it persists

 

A little disappointed right now...

I ordered the configuration in my sig on July 5th with expected delivery date on July 18th. I've been checking the status online (like most of us) ever since and noticed it was still listed as "in production" this morning. Really? Shouldn't it be shipping today?

Called in to order support and was told that there was a delay in production due to a shortage on the 580m gpu. And that my order has been waiting for this part for the last 10 days. They now have the part and its scheduled to go into production today. The new ship date is the 27th.

Needless to say, I am less than happy with the delay and even more so that I had to call to find out this info. I'm also wondering if Dell never actually had the 580m ready for production for anyone until now.

Note to other 580m peeps. You might want to check up with order support on the status if you ordered around the same time. Most likely we are in the same boat. I'm still excited about this laptop, but it puts a bit of a mark on my customer experience.

 

My order was suppose to be delivered on 7/19 and has been pushed to 7/29.

Yep, pre-production is still what mine says. It still shows my original ship date of 7/18 as well. Nevertheless, when I called I was told about the delay. The Rep assured me it will be released into production today.

 

Ya. That's what they usually say. 

I was told by my rep it will be delivered on time don't worry. 5 days before edd it was still in production. He also told me an order can be cancelled (Dell business side) before they start working on it. I cancelled 4 days before delivery and he successfully cancelled. Hmmm. Still not in production yet I guess. lied to

I guess it will show when it shows. If they delay and you don't have nbdd always ask for next business day delivery. They usually do it on the home side of dell

 

My order got stuck in preproduction so I cancelled and got an m17x for 2k with 2820, 580s, wihd and yr advanced warranty, keyboard and bag for 2k. Also free next day air shipping

 

my EDD updated to 7/28/11 still in pre production at the moment

 

Well, I cancelled my order also. I then re-ordered with the AMD 6990m's. $700 bucks is too big a savings for comparable (or better) performance and at this point I'm not losing any time by changing it.

Why doesn't Alienware have any resellers?

 

I guess we're all in the same boat indeed. Ordered mine on 6/30 with a shipping date 7/18. However, it stayed in the pre-production stage forever. I called asking for explanation pulling off my best Godfather accent, which comes easy on me since I'm Italian native speaker. They apologized confirming the lack of 580m and updated the shipping date to 7/28... I guess they underestimated their customers' eagerness to get their fangs on the new M18x

 

Why does Alienware take so long to ship? That absurb your waiting that long.

 

They do. Fortnax and Hidevolution are two. There are probably more.

 

Microcenter used to have a alienware section, but now its just for storage. Kind of sad really :/

 

Just sold my Toshiba A660 - 07T for one of these beasts! Can't wait for it, however from what I'm reading looks like Dell is stuffing us around!!

Is it better to drop the m18x and go for the m17x? Or are you guys just being really impatient?! Atleast it gives me time to make my battlestation

There will be a huge difference in performance between the m17x and m18x ... X-fire vs single card. Really its up to you, but I would personally wait for the 18.

 

Wow, I missed this somehow,

Tax was 334.53, total was 4118.55, no shipping.

Anyway, I was curious to see if there was some updates since apparently no 580s have gone into production yet and mine is due next tuesday so I checked the AW site, and for some reason none of the configurators are working. Maybe it's me, but maybe not, anyone else seeing it link straight to dell.com?

 

My new order I put in on July 16th has passed into full production. This is a marked improvement over the 580m config as it never got out of pre-production.

Anyway, I think like most people I'm just impatient. Waiting for something I really want has never been easy for me.
