make sure you get the deal that gives you $260 off. Including those savings, I saved $550. Plus the Orion 18x is now available today :D. You chose a good day to order. I had to re-order 5 times just to finalize a really good deal.

Ugh, I ordered yesterday and then late last night I saw the MAJOR price difference in buying my RAM on Newegg vs DELL. I called DELL this morning and the guy is giving me a hard time telling me I only have 2 hrs to make changes to my order??? I told him to cancel it and make a new order... he is "working" on it and will call me back. Also, he is saying if I change the RAM myself I will void the warranty.

LOL. your rep sucks. they just hate changing orders as youve found out. changing ram wont void the warranty. as long as you dont physically dmg the machine, it wont void anything.

dell make back their money on warranties/ram/hdd

they buy in bulk so they are changing less for the GPUs, CPUs, screens etc...

My rep let me change my order with the new discounts, I ordered on May 3 and my system was showing in production but he cancelled the 1st system reordered the new one, he still gave me the original discount plus the $260.00off so a total of over $600.00.

Yes, that discount was the last straw, couldn't wait any longer, especially after I saw the M6600 price (1000$ more than in the US for the most basic config).

For you guys/gals in Canada, How long did it take you to get a reply from your original order? I configured and purchased online on Wednesday, noonish, and still do not have an order number, or moved from "acknowledged" to "confirmed", 2 days later.

Bleh. I used Paypal to pay for it, paypal says the funds were sent, but Dell is saying PayPal is holding teh funds... I called Dell.ca sales and was quite bluntly told "work it out with PayPal, or give me a credit card".

My biggest issue is the terrible phone system they use, topped off with a healthy dose of strong accents... "Sorry, say that again? (mumble mumble) Sorry? say that again?"

Does anyone have a sales rep contact for Canada that a guy with less than perfect hearing can understand?

Anyway, I'll try again to call in, I'm to the point i'll say to hell with the free upgrades and discounts, just so I don't have to keep saying my name and phone number over and over again.

I was hoping it would be but it's still the build stage. My guess is by Monday it will be in boxing. Good choice with the nebula red, I'm bored of black and wanted something different. What's your config?

I went with the most basic config + CF. There was a special deal, they offered a 750GB HDD and 8GB RAM for free. 2k total. Not bad considering that the M6600 costs about 1200$ more in Canada than in the US.

^^ I totally understand your pain. Even with perfect hearing you'd still be struggling to understand those reps :(

My problem is simply that I have trouble understanding any accents. No matter how hard I try I still end up looking like a jerk having to ask them to repeat themselves.

I said, "to heck with it" and just placed another online order. This time not using paypal. The $260 discount still applied, so my new order was cheaper than my last, identical order, placed 2 days ago... that in itself is aggravating.

But here I sit, anxiously awaiting my new toy.

    Black case,
16GB@1600 (yea, bought it thru Dell, I have my reasons)
    2820 processor
256GB SSD (pricy, but faster, and more rugged, mine is ALWAYS on the move.)
    Dual ATI 6970, (duh)

I was surprised I didn't have the customizations I had with my 2 year old M17xR1. like steam, warcraft/Rift (or whatever is out there now), and nameplate. I also didn't see the option to add an extra power adapter. The generic "power accessories" only listed a 180?W adapter, that said it was for the M17... Maybe it's so big, the couriers would need a bigger truck to deliver more than one :)

Actually they had, at least in the US site we had the option of free Steam/portal, World of Warcraft and Eve on line all pre installed no cost and the name plate plus they had like 6 games that you could buy.

gah, finally got my order "processed". It appears Mastercard is overly touchy lately with "out of province/state" purchases and decided to block the "dell-us" transaction. this is why both paypal and dell were giving me grief. Would be nice if either of them let me know. Once i called Mastercard, and had them unblock DELL-US, things went fairly quick. got my e-mail and order number in minutes.

just a note to folks, if you plan to buy a laptop online, call your creditcard company first and they can "open" the doors for you. otherwise you could be held up for a week or so with a PENDING transaction.

An Official maxed out M18x is on it's way to NBR for complete and thorough testing. Anyone who opposes or argues against my opinions on it in the review will be banned. I will not tolerate and foolish behavior from people who do not see eye to eye with me.

BUt you can always renew after. It'll cost you more. But it's easier to come up with another 250-300 after 11 months then just keep doing it every year. That's what I am currently doing. Long as you upgrade before your warranty expires, you can add up to 3 additional years.
    And so do I..........
    Anything helps!!!

I am planning on a 4 year standard warranty on my M18x....it will cost the same as I paid to add a 2nd year of accidental warranty to my M17x r1.....get as much warranty as you can afford up front, this is more important than anything else as it is the most expensive to add "aftermarket"

CC also covers something you goof up such as a CPU change, or some other pulling apart of the machine (done with good and warranty covered intention, such as changing a hardrive, memory or CPU) but which somehow went wrong. I know because it was mentioned by my service guy when he found something (non damaging but he mentioned it anyway) I'd done slightly wrong in putting it back together and he asked if I had CC and I said yes, and he said "well nevermind then you'd be covered".

I mention it since people in this group tend to tinker :) including me.

I agree, warranty is important. but IMO the CompleteCare is more important than the length. I myself chose 2 years, CompleteCare. the machine im using now is am M17x R1. I put 3 years CC on it when i bought it 2 years ago. and at the moment, it kinda struggles with the most basic of games. Will you really WANT to use this laptop in 3-4 years from now? probably not, if you are a pure gamer anyway. Everyone has their own uses.

The CompleteCare warranty covers "anything accidental". The excuse of "it's a 4 thousand dollar toy, of course i'll be careful" just doesn;t stand up when you knock over your beer on the KB. That couple hundred dollar investment is well worth it to me.
