I think everyone in sales knows that when there's an unhappy customer a return is a good option...

Oh I definitly threated a to just return altogether for a refund ...
Its always good to remind sales that they have competitors that you can go with, especially when the product you are purchasing has a built in premium cost above its competition ...

My M18X shipped today 8/4. Delivery method states 7 day delivery, but my updated EDD is tomorrow 8/5! How is that? Did I get a free upgrade to overnight for shipping or something?

What gives. Says shipped on the 1st but not picked up until yesterday(3rd). Finally got my tracking number today. Called Purolator says Monday delivery by ground. why is like this when Dell said rushed delivery, since my original order was June 3rd.

Because Dell will try to tell you what you want to hear on the phone. Reps get yelled at sooo much they try to make you happy any way they can. In a way it makes sense. I would not like to be yelled at all day.

In this case, of rush delivery, its not possible for us Canadians. They can rush order the build of the system but delivery is not an option for Canadians. It's the deal they made with purolator. Its GROUND for regular builds. If it's a fast track order its next day delivery cause they are shipped from out east, not the states.

It depends on stock of parts. I seen a guy on here pretty much order what I ordered but his order went in on July 6th, my oder went in on July 13th, they both got shipped, same time.

    Hey all,

Just orders by M18x over the phone with a dell representative. I got my order acknowledgement. How long until i get the order confirmation do you think?

Apparently the estimated delivery date is 23 august.

It really depends on how busy they are. I've seen them come in 5 minutes and as long as two days.

It finally landed. A few things though. They misspelled my nameplate and the 6990's are showing up as 6970's.

Any suggestions on how to go about this?

The nameplate. Did you do an online order or through a rep?

As for 6990 being 6970 don't worry about it. The software out there has not been updated yet to recognize 6990's

I placed my order with a rep. I placed my order when the 25% off was going on. Glad to hear/read about the 6990's.

    Thanks for that link.

Kinda sucks how one letter makes such such difference.

I was supposed to get my M18x last week's tuesday, but you know Dell - always seemingly out to screw their customers even on the day of delivery :-/

The notebook was a hour away from me, a HOUR. Week later and they still haven't sorted it out.

Greetings! My name is Nate and I am brand new here although I have been lurching since then end of July when i ordered my M18. My rig is far from the best, based on the ones I've sen here, but its what a student completing a masters in aviation safety could afford after saving for 3 years :). I ordered my system on 7-30-11 with 7 day standard ground shipping and couldn't be happier! I recieved a notification yesterday morning that my system had been shipped and late last night that it arrived in Chicago. It may be worth pointing out that mine seemed to sit in production for many days before being magically shipped then in Chicago all within a day. My origianl EDD was 8-15-11 which presented a problem as i would be returning to school for fall semester on Monday the 15th!!!! My new date was 8-12-11 then bumped foward to tomorrow 8-10-11!!!!! I'm not sure what has happened but it seems the shipping is either in turbo mode or I was somehow upgraded. This is just some info for those chewing their nails wondering how long it will take and I really do hope this offers some comfort to those waiting. :)

Welcome welcome, you should put your system in your signature, click User CP at the top, then edit signature.

Dell often gives a very far off EDD at first ... then it comes sooner ... :)

Mine came last Monday and it is perfect. Only problems have been caused by me and easily rectified. The forums can be a poison challice while you're waiting. Its great to read up on your new system but seeing some of the problems a number of unfortunate people have had can be really scary. The advice I got was to just relax and it turned out I was worrying about nothing (touch wood)

scroll to the bottom where it says 'windows activiation'
click on 'change product key' and enter in the new ultimate key and then activate.

Just heard from HIDevolution that they expect to receive my M18x from Dell today! I placed the order August 2nd and they said that Dell expedites their deliveries, so I was thinking, okay, maybe 3 weeks instead of 4 before it gets to them, but this is 9 days!

Ted's great and the whole experience was very easy. I tried Dell a few times and the lowest they could go for what I wanted was over $4,100, to which I would've had to add $400-$450 for a 256GB Crucial M4, $150 or so for 16GB of 1866MHz HyperX Ram, not to mention the risk of hospitalization for somehow ingesting IC Diamond when I try to do the repasting myself :).

HID gave me a $330 discount, bringing the total down to just over $4,900. Plus I don't have to pay sales tax (I don't think you have to with Dell, but with some re-sellers you do). All told, they came in a bit cheaper than Fortnax too, and faster (if only because of the taxes/fees involved in purchasing from Canada when I live in the US). One of the biggest pluses for me is the fact that they check every M18x for defects before they send it out, and sort out the replacement with Dell if there are any issues. Given all the weird issues people on this site have been having with their M18x's ordered direct from Dell (cracks, scratches, dust behind the screen), it's nice to know that when my notebook arrives it should be good to go.

    Here's my configuration:

Alienware M18x Custom Built to Order

    Space Black Anodized Aluminum

    Intel® Core™ i7 2820QM 2.3GHz (3.4GHz Turbo Mode, 8MB Cache)

IC Diamond on CPU + GPU - INSTALLED BY HIDevolution

    Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium, 64bit, English

    Dual 2GB GDDR5 NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 580M – NVIDIA® SLI® Enabled

    18.4-inch WideFHD 1920 x 1080 WLED

    Kingston HyperX 16GB Dual Channel DDR3 at 1866MHz (4DIMMS) - 1866MHz not supported on 2630QM - installed by HIDevolution

    Crucial M4 (C400) SATA3 6Gb/s 256GB SSD - INSTALLED BY HIDevolution

2nd Hard Drive Bay (installed by HIDevolution)
    750GB 7200RPM HDD - INSTALLED BY HIDevolution

    Slot-Loading Dual Layer Blu-ray Reader (BR-ROM, DVD+-RW, CD-RW)

    97 WHr 12-Cell Lithium-Ion Battery

330W 3 Prong AC Adapter with 6 ft Power Cord

    Killer™ Wireless-N 1103 a/g/n 3x3 MIMO for Gaming & Video

    Bluetooth 3.0 Included

Internal High-Definition 5.1 Surround Sound Audio

2 Year Advanced Service Plan (adds Accidental damage protection)

So, overall, if you're making a large investment in an M18x already, and you'd feel more comfortable having a pro do the upgrades and the IC Diamond repaste, I highly recommend HID.

I'll put up an unboxing post once my beast arrives.

I didn't build it from the ground up. Just cleaned up the bloat ware and install 20+ games
    And all my other apps.

I do recommend the easy transfer
Windows Easy Transfer - Windows 7 features - Microsoft Windows it moved over all my configuration files, email configuration including all my emails, back grounds favorites etc. Great little app

I installed the Intel Chipset and Management Engine drivers first, then AMD video driver, wifi, etc... no special order is needed after the chipset and AMD drivers. I installed OSD and AlienCC last with discreet graphics. After all that is done, boot into the Intel IGP and install the HD 3000 drivers and you'll be good to go. I ran into no issue at all. I recommend using MSCONFIG or another utility to disable CCC and the Intel IGFX CC to prevent them from automatically starting with Windows. You can start either of them manually when necessary by right-clicking anywhere on your desktop.

Less than a week from ordering.

What is the usual shipping time?

I think its coming from ireland, as the orion bag i ordered seperately did.
