This could be correct, but there is a better way. I used to work for the Dell.Ca tech support call center. The accepted practice on teh floor was that if a customer called in and damaged their machine by tearing it apart themselves, we should consider this intentional, unless they can prove they were following "dell authorized instruction".

    1. they had called dell tech support previously and requested info.
    2. they were on the phone with tech support at the time of the failure.
    3. they could give us the dell document number of the manual needed to replace that part. (service manual or somethign similar)
    4. they were themselves a dell authorized service tech.

In my time there I had calls from many people who just simply wanted to have me on the phone while they "tried something". people call in, tell me briefly what they are going to do, I toss out some advice (and confirm Completecare coverage), they yank out a processor and snap! "Crap, the processor wasn;t in straight and bent half the pins!." "ok sir, i'll set up an exchange for a processor... would you like a tech to do that for you this time?"

I also had a lady that bought a laptop against her husbands wishes. he came home early one day and she threw it in the oven to hide it from him, forgot it was there and started cooking dinner.....

technically that's not covered, but I replaced it for her. Karma can be a Bit**, better to be on her good side :)

After considering, I wanna make some changes. Then Ive been talking to several sale rep. who suggested me to cancel this order and making new one with their help. However, none of them could have my new order 10% off (since my current order has 10% discount from DPA which is worth +$350 is this case). Eventually, they suggested me to call customer service just for changing my order. But i dont really wanna do this way since changing order could have my EDD delayed.

Anyone has a good rep. that could share me would be really appreciated. Thanks guys.

Fair enough. Simply tried to indicate that CC does cover for more than simple stuff that no one thinks will happen them.

    Thanks for the further guidance!

I got CC because I got a small kid who has already poured water into his toy laptop and ruined it. :) Remember, it's not you who will be careless, it's everyone else around you.

CC is vital for electronic portable devices. Being careful simply doesn't cut it. Not an area to skimp on! Why? Dell's is the best in the biz.

Is it possible to add CC if my M18X is still in production? CC wasn't even an option when I ordered through the AAFES store but Advanced Care was.

Complete Care (now known as 'Accidental Damage') only covers liquid spills, drops & falls, surges & screen breaks.

Review the actual terms of the agreement, its right there in black and white. Don't expect support to cover a botched thermal compound application...

Full details on Service Contracts (TOS, Product Warranties, Warranty, etc.) can be found here -

Accidental Damages Coverage doc is here:

Just want to clarify - we have several misconceptions of what this coverage provides floating around here on NBR...

    Can i ask u guys a question?

Um.. If i order a SSD first then can i install another HDD myself? Or would i have to order a HDD first and then install a SSD later? I thought if i order an SSD first then the OS and software and everything will be on that. Save me the trouble of doing them my self :D.

you can order the ssd afterwards, then install the os from the recovery disk. Takes 10 minutes. I would go this route since it will be cheaper and you'll have more chooses in ssd.

Ordering an SSD from Dell costs you an amount even more expensive than buying an SSD (such as Crucial M4 256GB SATAIII) plus a Seagate Momentus 500GB Hybrid Hard Drive. So I would suggest you stock HDD and buy them from the market. Eventually, you will have an extra 320GB HDD (stock) for back up.

Rumour mill says 485 or 5xx series is coming, but they've been both right and wrong before. Can wait and see or go 6970cf which is a mightily fast solution.
    Up to you.

I can upgrade to CC down the road, that is much cheaper than adding years. For the time being, if I spill something, yank power and battery, disassemble, run all parts under tap to clean out and let them full dry.

Has worked on 2 laptops in the past haha. Did not want to come across as cocky, I just do not expect to have a need to the higher coverage over standard at this time.

^^ Totally agree with Scook here! The irony, I had to do this on many business grade laptops with "spill-resistant keyboards", lol. ThinkPads, Elitebooks, Precisions, they all failed multiple times even with minor spills. The best remedy is to turn the system off as fast as you can, disassemble and let the components dry.

5/26 right now and it's been in production for 5 days so I'm hoping it hits boxing by tonight or tomorrow evening. If not, then I'm worried it will have a longer build time than my M17x-R3 had.

Usually (but not always) with a new model, if you order on launch day you get it within 1-2 weeks. The M17x-R3 v2 I received in a week after I ordered it which was a very fast turn around time. When the M17x-R2 was first released, I also received it in about 10 days. It took about 5-6 days in production, 2-3 in boxing and then another 1-2 for shipping. On weekends, if I go into boxing it's usually late Sunday evening.

Yeah, I'm waiting on Joker's breakdown before I pull the trigger. I have a 2920xm sitting here along with an extra 6300 and some Kingston HyperX DDR3-1600 on its way. After using a L702x and REALLY liking the LG 3D panel for normal use, it is in the running if I want to go cheap; M17x r3 if I want to strike a happy compromise of power/weight or M18x for all out glory if the screen is up to snuff and I can round up some serious discounts.

I should have my M18x by Friday says my friend at Dell :) can't frigging wait! I have a 512 Crucial M4 waiting for her.

I'm not really a 3D Mark guy but I do have a registered version of 3D Mark '11 so I'll run that. What I will do for sure is give you benchmarks on games. Planning on Crysis 1/2, Bad Company 2, Wow and Sarcraft 2. If you have a game you would like to see let me know I'm sure I have it.

Glad to see someone else helped plant a tree :). Hopefully this week, people will start getting their models and the unboxing pics can begin.

Man this is mighty unfair, why did I get a June 6 date when I ordered on the first day it was available, and everyone else is getting end of may or june 1 as EDD for their recent purchases?

Maybe I should complain or something.

I am not a tree huger or anything like that, but I figured why not. My wife and I just had my son, and I just want something to be left for him when he grows up :p

EDD are hit or miss. Some can take months, while others can take weeks. While in some circumstances can get it in days.

This is my first post lol, but I live in Chicago and although I don't have rep around here is there someone that can get me a good deal on the M18x? I am starting college in the fall and don't have a ton of money to spend. I am hoping I can have someone get me the military discount?

That someone has to family or it is fraud. Talking about it here will get posts deleted and probably you banned

Alienwares are tough if you are low on money. I would recommend an M17x R3 if that is the case, much more reasonable for someone on a budget

Ok sorry about that. I was considering the M17x but I want two 6970m's for future-proofability.

EDIT: Haven't people in this topic been saying they "have a guy", which implies the same thing that I did?

They are honest discounts though, some dell reps give discounts right away some dont. US reps are the best. If you get an overseas rep... hang up.
