Hi Dave. In case you did not see it, we have the http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware-m18x/575529-m18x-order-status-discussion.html thread (which is where I moved your new thread).
Congratulations on the new beast. I trust you will love yours as much as I do mine. I really enjoy seeing the excitement with new M18x owners, as there is every reason to be excited about owning the best mobile gaming system available.
Please feel free to post your specs here or in the http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware-m18x/575859-official-m18x-owners-lounge-thread.html and ask questions about the system while waiting for delivery. -
Got delivered today! This thing is so awesome. I love it. So much faster than my xps 710 desktop. lol. cant wait to start trying some games after i get em installed.

I got mine through AAFES as well its a great program.
-
Received my M18x - my screen was chipped and the body was uneven (left palm rest was elevated, so whenever I rested my left palm, there is an audible 'clack' of the bodies.) Just dropped it off for return. I originally wanted a replacement, but it took waaay too long. If I have to wait another couple weeks anyways, I might as well wait for 28nm GPUs.
Regardless, Dell has been pretty responsive and accommodating -- mostly done through Email. A nice change from the hours of sitting on the phone, only to get disconnected and frustrated. -
Has anyone that recently ordered have a ton of updating of delivery dates? I am getting a little frustrated ow that it has been delayed for 6 weeks.
-
The web site often does not have the most current information on order status. You also need to drill down into the order rather than look at it in the order history list. Sometimes there is more information when you drill down and open the order.
If things are going goofy with delays, probably would not hurt to call them to find out what the real issue is. Maybe some component you selected is on backorder. They will not change an order that is in-process, but at least you will know what the hold up is. You could place a new order and cancel the one that is pending if there is a component on backorder with no ETA on availability. This could speed things up, but you will have to call them to get the straight skinny. -
Yea definitely calling helps tons, I got phone updates for my m18x order, and I received calls on updates on my order through the process. The call I received to tell me it was on it's way out the door was probably the best though.
-
I called them last night. I had to go through an Employee Purchase Program rep since I ordered it through AAFES and she was pretty helpful. She told me that she put in an expedite request for my order and that she will personally email me on all notifications of my order. We will see how this works out. She informed me that the recent promotion on M18x's where if your order was over $3999 it took 15% of the price. It caused an insane amount of orders and they are having a hard time trying to keep up. At least she knew what was going on.

Hi Guys,
I placed an order for a new m18x a few days ago through the MOD EPP, emailed my rep yesterday with a couple of concerns regarding 580m availability, this is what he said;
"Yes, you heard this specific graphics card is high-end graphics cards in the market.
We do have 17 days wait time hence, it is taking time."
Hurry up !
Regards,
Dave. -

I was was letting you know that the AAFES time for me was off by about a week early. Crossing fingers for you that it arives on time for you ....
-
After a month of waiting my new baby shipped. Hopefully it does not take the 6-8 weeks to get there. I am so excited and cannot wait to play some BF3, MW3 and Skyrim on it. If it is there during my R&R, you all know what I will be doing... -
I recently ordered mine through a reseller. I was supposed to get it earlier, but I upgraded from 6990M Crossfire to 580M SLI, so I don't think it's gonna ship until March 23rd. AHH i can't wait to get it and start gaming on it like there's no tomorrow!
-
Yours is shipping already? I ordered mine with the same graphics and processor as yours on 02/20.
-
-
Ordered 2/7 and is still not at my door. Dell says 3/7, if its delayed again I'm going to "X" it. Not a happy camper at all.

Well, if there are new video cards out by then, I guess I can always cancel and reorder. I read some items somewhere about new video cards possibly available in late march. About the time my laptop is supposed to be delivered. Well have to see
-
Deleted my own messege Before this due to have known the reason for my M18x delay since paid in 03 Febuary 2012.
Just hope dell could done some professional movement for nVidia GTX 580M, so all the waiting list customer for M18x could get their system as soon as possible before April 2012; especially for the customer who placed an order since early January or Febuary 2012. -
So I ordered my M18X on the 8th and the estimated delivery is 3/22. Has anyone ever received their laptop faster then estimated delivery date? How much sooner?

Must be in high demand..anyways, thought i would let you all know after talking to a dell rep about my order that was placed on 3/3

You're a little crazy
<3
See if you can get them to upgrade your warranty. I don't want to be a doomsayer but you're shooting yourself in the foot by not getting the advanced warranty. -

Anyone notice they have removed the 2960xm as a CPU option? Curious.....

Would you cancel this order and wait for the new r2 that will most likely have ivy bridge/keplar..or should I just get this? It has been hard to wait, but if performance increases are going to be that much better, it might be worth it. But if this is something that is not coming out until the end of the year, forget it..i'm sticking with this order. Needs to be by May/June at the latest if I am going to do this. Oh, and one more thought..can't I keep this for 30 days and if Dell releases something new within that time, return it for a full refund? -
Nobody knows about when the R2 is coming out though. That's the problem. That setup will last a pretty long time, there's no indication from NVidia that a new GPU is coming out, and AMD is probably going to stick with the 6990 for a while.
You can indeed return it within the 30 day window for a refund if Dell announces something new. I had the same dilemna when I was ordering mine, but I decided that waiting 5-7 weeks for the 6990s/580s to come out for what I feel is a negligible performance gain and a HUGE price jump wasn't worth it. -
TurbodTalon Notebook Virtuoso
Agreed. That setup you have is a beast. Get an 8 or 16GB RAM kit and an SSD and keep it for a couple of years.
-
One thing I didn't catch before: Go with the advanced warranty for at least 2 years. It'll pay for itself the second something goes wrong.
-
Mine says its been with Fedex since late thursday night. No shipping info other than that. Still says the 20th on the fedex page.
-
I'm afraid there's nothing to wait for. The R1 is upgradeable (GPU wise) and the mobile Ivy isn't impressive. The only thing that would make me want to upgrade is an anti-glare RGBLED 120hz screen, but I'm not too naive to think Dell would do that
-
-
I just purchased an M18x, and I thought long and hard about waiting for the R2 and here is why I didn't.
http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware-m18x/575859-official-m18x-owners-lounge-thread-275.html
The R2 may possibly be released at the end of the year, and when it is one can expect to donate an organ or two, think of the R1's price when it first launched plus maybe a little more. So upwards of $4.5 to 5k vs. sub $3k for a robust R1, i.e. extreme processor and dual 6990's or 580 SLI.
The existing R1 will likely be able to play whatever games are released for at least another 5 years, 30k Vantage Scores are insanely good for any gaming PC much less a laptop.
I'm in agreement that the only real enticing thing about the R2 is the potential for a new RGB screen, but in 1900x1200? I like 16x9 widescreen much better and would rather have the 18 inches measured in 1920x1080.
So that is why I have already made my decision.
Stick with the R1, it will be strong enough to handle whatever the gaming industry throws at it for a LONG time. -

I would try to extend the advanced warranty to at least 3 years now to get it at a lower price. It seems the cost of the warranty does go up considerably after you receive the system.
-
Yup. Online (for Canada) the price is under $500 for 3 years advanced. The price to renew is almost $1000 for 2. If they won't give you a good deal over the phone, go for the full refund and make a new order over the phone, get yourself some discounts while you're at it.
-
Get what warranty you want now, your jaw will drop when you see the price afterwards. And knocking 75 dollars off and a 75 dollar gift card towards a 1500 dollar warranty when it costs you 500 new isn't a discount in my opinion.
-
chewbakaats58 Notebook Evangelist
Bummer...looks like they would have to cancel my order and would have to redo it if I wanted the warranty with my current order. Sorry bubs..but I ain't waiting any longer..ordered this on 3/3 and I'm so ready. I'll just have to be extra careful and no drinking around my laptop! I did buy one of those nice orion m18x messenger bags..thing is pretty durable.
-
Or it could be that a majority of new M18x purchasers are going for the extreme processors and there is a supply and demand issue.
Another possibility would be that the extreme processors are having some problems? Not likely but possible. -
The 2960xm is still available in AUS Dell so seems odd that US has stopped selling.
