Salient points! The bugs with any new system! The M18x mostly has the bugs out, and you can get them slightly used or factory refurbished as I have recently for under $3k (extreme processor, 580 SLI....check)

Alright, so it says my estimated delivery date of my m18x is 3/27..which is 6 days from now. Though my order status still shows "in production" and I have it set for 2 business day delivery. If I really am to get it by next Tuesday, shouldn't it already be shipped by now?

Good deal! Excited for you, man.

Just curious if anyone noticed the 2960XM CPU is not an option today 3/22/12 at the Dell US website? Shortage or are they gearing up for a R2 M18x?
-
It's also not available in the M17x R3, so my best guess would be parts availability is an issue. -
My order is still in production :/ I ordered it 3/3/2012 and the payment was received 3/7/2012 and the estimated delivery date is 4/9/2012. This is a long time to wait so hopefully I will receive my M18x earlier than that.

Anyways dude, let me know if you hear different. Hop in chat to see what they say to you. -
However I don't know if this delay concerns only US and not Canada.. -

Okay I just got a call from Dell and the person I talked with said that there is currently a shortage of 580M cards, but it doesn't concern my order. This might be caused by the fact that I'm dealing with Dell Canada and not US, but it's just a hunch.

I was going through the same thing as you guys. Ordered on 3/3, and my order kept getting pushed back and back. To make matters worse for me, since I ordered through a reseller, I would also have to wait an extra week on top of whatever additional wait due to Dell, because the reseller gets it first, does the upgrades, then sends to me.
I just cancelled my order. The wait on these things is ridiculous, especially given that now the 675Ms (just re-named 580Ms) are out now and being used on other set-ups. A lot of new things are coming out this month, and I think I want to wait for a stronger 15.6" gaming laptop (Sager/Clevo and MSI are refreshing their 15.6" lines in April - maybe I"ll get one of those).
Basically (and Dell needs to know this if they're getting lots of cancelled orders), I had too much time to reconsider how much I paid, what I was getting, and if I really needed a huge, epic gaming laptop. They are allowing too much time for buyer's remorse (which I experienced big time due to the incredibly long wait). If they delivered it to me faster, yeah, I'd have it, love it, and probably wouldn't want to return it. Thing is, I don't even have a lot of time to play games like I used to with work and school. I think I'm more in need of all "all around" laptop, and one that's not as big as the M18x.
With all the new stuff coming out (MSI/Clevo refresh, Ivy Bridge, Kepler), I just wasn't comfortable waiting weeks and weeks to finally get my M18x. Even though the M18x is still very close to top of the line, the price on it will probably go down in the near future as more things come out. -
-
I don't know if laptops are out and already using them, but they are being advertised on several websites (Powernotebooks, Xoticpc, GentechPC) for several laptops (i.e. the 17.3 Sager/Clevo that's coming out this month used to be advertised with 580M sli, but now it's 675M sli). But you don't need to worry, the 675M is just a rebadged 580M.
I cancelled because I just don't need a gaming laptop as strong as an M18x. This is my first foray into PC gaming, so I think it's best I try a more "all around" laptop first, then if I really like it, get a desktop build since they last longer. I think i'm gonna get a 15.6" MSI or Sager/Clevo (with backlit keyboards). -

Oh, and about the 675m's..they are just a rebranded 580m and alienware doesn't even have them listed with their laptops. So i'm sure wait times for those would even increase more.
By the way, I chatted with Dell again and said that my order is currently being shipped from the dell plant to ups..so what was happening is they weren't updating my status online as it still shows "In Production". So apparantly Dell has now received some more 580m's and are shipping them out! I'm guessing I will receive mine either this week or definitely by next week some time.
Cool thing about the whole thing is that they upgraded me from 7-day shipping to next day because of the delay with the 580m's -

Honestly though, if you are just beginning pc gaming, go and build your first gaming desktop! Much cheaper (this is actually changing as gaming laptops are not expensive as they used to be) and you learn a whole lot while doing it. If you really don't need portable, go desktop bro as you won't regret it.
I chose an M18x because I want a portable gaming beast, and not some baby gaming laptop with subpar graphics...if you are going to go gaming laptop..go BIG is my theory! -
Yeah i know what you mean! With technology/gadgets, I usually "go big or go home." I was like "if I want a gaming laptop, I want a top of the line laptop." But then I had a lot of time to think about my purchase (almost $4K for the M18x when all was said and done), and I just reconsidered because I dont have as much time to game as I used to. I work full time and go to school at night, and my weekends are taken up by the gf/friends/hw. I feel like I would barely use the M18x, and by the time I did get around to getting good use out of it, it would be outdated!
I don't have a laptop, I currently only have an iMac desktop that I do work on. So I feel like a good "all around" laptop (with like a 570 or 580M single GPU) would be enough for me. I'm hoping that the 15.6" Sager/Clevo and MSis that are supposed to be out this April have decent cards and are decent prices! I really want a backlit keyboard and a 15.6" inch, so I feel like they are my only options (Asus only has a 560M, and it's got the gimped 560 M card) -
M18x on the way, requested an exchange from my faulty M17xR3 to this whilst paying the difference.
From the M17xR3 specs in my signature to base M18x with CrossFire 6990m and 320GB HDD cost me £410 british pounds ($653 USD).
Dell confirmed my delivery, sent me order confirmations and such, and then oddly enough I received another quote after all that with an M18x with 8GB RAM; weird, but maybe I will also receive 8GB RAM too!
It was all built and shipped in one day although the tracking number from WWI still shows up blank.
Fingers crossed this M18x has no problems! -
My M18x was shipped today and hopefully I will receive it this Friday or early next week. Unfortunately Dell Canada only has Canada standard option for shipping and I don't know how long this usually takes with Purolator being the carrier. Anyhow I'm glad M18x is on it's way!
Edit: Got voice message from Purolator that my M18x should be delivered tomorrow! Fast service -
Ordered thru AAFES and got a great deal. I new there would be delays b/c I got the 580M SLI plus with the awsome discounted price I don/t mind waiting a couple more days.
Ordered on 27 Feb with est Ship of 13 Mar...then pushed back to est ship of 26 Mar...now pushed back to est ship of 2 April...ugh I think I'm starting to develope a twitch -

I chatted with Dell yesterday and mine is currently being shipped from Dell Plant in China or whatever country to shipping carrier (UPS, I assume?) Anyways, this was after they called me last Friday and said it was delayed until April 3rd because of the 580m sli's being delayed over and over. Weird thing is my online status is not updating like it should be, but the representative assured me it was much further along than the "In Production" status it shows...so you might want to call/chat with them and see what stage it is actually in.
I have next day shipping set for me, so maybe...i mean maybe, it might come Friday..but more than likely sometime next week. Ordered mine on 3/3
If you don't mind me asking RogerWilco...how much $$ was yours as I have almost identical specs to you? -

BOOOOOYEAHHH! M18x arrives tomorrow
...very interesting Dell stay true to their initial delivery date of 3/28, when I ordered this on 3/3. This is even after some delays...tomorrow will be a great day!

In answer to your earlier question my total was 2822.15. I bought an after market SSD and MEM below off newegg. Ended up saving almost 300 dollars on that alone. I did fix my sig as I went with the 4GB 1600 offered and thats why I got the 8GB from newegg.
Crucial M4 128GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) $149.99
CORSAIR Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3 1600 $48.99
Enjoy your new machine! I called Dell EPP since I went thru AAFES and asked about the delays. They said it should be resolved and that a shipdate of 2 April was still in works. I then asked just for the heck of it that I saw some people on these forums order after me and their comps are shipping before mine (I know futile question)...got a awkward pause and the indivigual said they honestly didn't know. Well at least they were up front about it...between the delays and the soul crushing ending that was ME3 I'm about to go mental...*twitch* -
Great just checked my order status after my last post...new est is 9 Apr! WTH! Time to get back on the phone.
-
Today is my estimated delivery date, yet no delivery. The tracking number Dell gave me is still invalid, and when I called Dell about this they didn't really know what was going on, he just told me its coming from China so it can take a while. asked how long, days or weeks? He didn't know. Fantastic.

Though I did initially order 7-day shipping and because of the delays they changed it to next business day, so at least get them to do that for you. So let's see, I ordered mine on 3/3 and it will be coming 3/29...so about 26 days to build this thing.
-
It's super hard to beat AAFES pricing on some items and in the case it's awesome. Some of there prices are high compared to other places...
-
@ homank76 that is true. I find the no tax part the best.
@ chewbakaats58 Get your comp yet? Hope you enjoy it. Called again and they won't put a priority on it... I asked about upgrade to next day shipping and was told no...what info I did get was that the LCD screens are on back order and that is the reason for the delay in my case at least....*twitch* -

Anyways, hopefully yours will come soon! -
My newly built replacement is saying it's due 24th April. Unsure if I should have waited for the m18xr2 as replacement? I assume extreme CPU will not be available on launch of r2

On 3/3/12 I ordered the M18X with a Intel® Core™ i7 2960XM (Overclocked Turbo Boost to 4.0GHz,8MB Cache) processor. And I noticed when I checked my order status a couple weeks later that my processor was CHANGED to the Intel Core i7 2670QM 2.2GHz (3.1GHz w/Turbo Boost, 6MB Cache) and my ESD was delayed(of course). I received no email notification stating that my processor was downgraded and I understand that they're not selling the 2960XM due to whatever reason, it's just that I was extremely displeased with the lack of communication. I ended up canceling the order and re-ordering it again with a few modifications. Has anyone else experienced this kind of problem? Or am I just tremendously unlucky? :|
-
Also, would anyone here recommend ordering a M18X from Powernotebooks.com? They seem to have the 2960XM and I'd much rather prefer that than the 2860QM.
-
I recently bought an Alienware M18X from the above website because Dell stopped selling the i7 2960XM and I didn't really feel like downgrading. Below are the specs.

I was wondering if anyone here has had any issues ordering from this site that I'd probably need to know. -

Powernotebooks has been a reputable reseller over the years and they have one of the best reseller rating scores I have seen. I personally have ordered from them and the experience was nothing but smooth. You have nothing to worry about.
-
I referred a couple of my friends to that website since they did military discounts and stuff. So far their machines are still working like a boss and they were very helpful if you have any inquiries/questions.
-
Don't cheap out on warranty
You will pay a lot more later on -
Ordered mine on 3/22 and est. delivery on 4/5. Already bought one OCZ 240GB SATA III and 16GB RAM to swap in, and am returning the OCZ in favor of a Crucial M4 128 based on this forum. Can't afford the MAXIOPS which seem to do well, especially since I also blew more $$ on a massive bag to carry this pup in.
Can't wait to see it... -
Get the most you can for sure off the hop.
-
Thanks everyone! I can sleep better knowing this information (srsly)!
I'm not very knowledgeable of how "resellers" work due to me typically buying from brand names only. So my question is since Dell does not sell the 2960XM anymore/atm, how does PNB.com fulfill my requested processor(2960)? Do they install it themselves? Sorry if this is a stupid question. -
Should be receiving mine today...
Didn't receive it today...now have to wait till tomorrow...
