Resellers already have the parts in stock, that's how they offer things Dell may not have stock on.

I see. So do they order anything from Dell themselves?

All their parts come from Dell, and some resellers probably buy prebuilt systems.

I have a esd of 4/4/2012. Is this the date in which I should receive the beast or the date in which it should be shipped?

10 Days after 'dispatch' and still no update (no tracking, no call, no email) , so I called Dell.

Turns out there is no red chassis available, only black and that if I change to black they would dispatch it today.
I asked when the red chassis would be back in stock and he said he didn't know, maybe next week, maybe never.

I told him I would wait a week and call back to see if red is in stock.

I don't know why Dell didn't contact me about this

I had a relatively same issue with Dell. I ordered the i7 2960XM with my M18X on 3/3/12. Weeks went by and they stopped selling the 2960, so without any notification at all they changed my processor to the i7 2670 and were going to charge me FULL price before I canceled. Made me  !

Dell customer service is starting to get really bad now.

I called them yesterday to change my mind and accept the black colour (just because I am sick of waiting and I need a laptop!) but they told me they would call me the next day (today) to confirm all the details. Suprise suprise, no call back. This is the fourth time out of my whole replacement saga that dell have promised a call back and never did.

So I called today and told them I was promised a call back but never got it, and the Dell agent fobbed me off and told me to send an email. Yes, I have sent Dell so many emails in the past and they never reply (one instance it took them 2 weeks to send me a quote - despite emails I had to contact them myself via telephone and only on the third occasion did they actually get anything done).

I am starting to get extremely fed up with Dell, its been nearly a month now and still they haven't even built my replacement laptop.

Same here. That's why I just went with getting the M18x from a reseller instead. Dell, for me, has always been unreliable in the past. =\

well, first estimate on delivery was 4/5, so of course first thing this morning I get a message indicating my order has been delayed with a new date of 4/12.

I was really hoping they'd come through as promised. For the money they charge on these, they should do a better job at planning their production.

RAM and SSD are the most common. some people go as far as switching from AMD to Nvidia or from low-end quad cores to the extreme edition 2920/2960.

if i had the money i would have got an extreme edition cpu.

Yeah so far Dell have proven rather unreliable.

Nevertheless, I called again and gave them a brief history of their failed attempts to get back to me. They said 'I am so sorry' (I think every agent is taught to say those four words) and they promised me another callback the next day.

Thankfully they got their act together and the next day they emailed me with an updated quote for the Stealth Black system, and called me to confirm they sent the email. They had upgraded me to 8GB RAM and 750GB HDD (I asked for 320GB for a discount initially) for free, which is nice since throughout this whole saga I hadn't even uttered the word 'free', they've offered it to me without me asking.

I accepted the quote, and they've confirmed it and everything (still in Pre-Production). But a Dell agent from a private number called me today asking to arrange a date to pick up my old laptop (M17xR3). I told her I hadn't received my replacement yet, it hasn't even been built yet and that until I receive the replacement, the M17xR3 stays with me.

Fingers crossed this M18x comes in good time and has no problems!

Ongoing story here too with delays. My original ship date was 13 March...got moved back to 26 March..then 2 April...then 9 April...now 16 April. I keep calling dell and being very civil and they just keep saying oh delays sry but won't tell me why. I ordered on 27 Feb! I can understand about a month but almost 2?! Unacceptible. I even asked about possibley getting next day shipping but they said they couldn't do that. sigh...

Unfortunatly I'll probably have to cancel as I won't be around to accept shipment with the new date (which I told them I would be gone almost 5 weeks before getting back)...errggg...must not post angry...must not post angry

Low end stuff I thought... Dell rep calls and says delayed to 4/10 but e-mails say 4/12.

    Intel Core i7 2670QM 2.2GHz (3.1GHz w/Turbo Boost, 6MB Cache)
    4GB Dual Channel DDR3 at 1600MHz 2DIMMS

    Slot-Loading Dual Layer Blu-ray Reader, BR-ROM, DVD+-RW,
Soundblaster X-Fi Hi Def Audio - Software Enabled
Killer Wireless-N 1103 a/g/n 3x3 MIMO for Gaming and Video

If the wireless card is the issue, I wish they'd tell me so I would swap to what they got. There are places to get a new Killer 1103 for less and swap it myself.

I was just told by my techs at work that some Killer 1103 cards we ordered from were delayed by 2 weeks due to the shipment being full of defective units. So I suspect the 1103 may be part of the delay and I hope Dell's batches are not affected or WERE but now are good to go... I hope no more last minute updates for further delays. Good luck to you guys not getting delays so far!

Mine is still in production (same spec as sign) ordered 23/03 and due 20/04.
its funny they have no 2960xm. My current m18x has received two replacement 2960xm within 2 weeks & 2 killer 1103 wifi cards & GPUs (all of these looked new as well) just the motherboards in my cases that were refurbished.

So a week from confirming order to shipping, not bad. I should receive it in 3 days time, I hope UPS delivers on Saturdays though.

    EDIT:
Scheduled delivery date is Friday 13th. Despite the date I hope I am lucky and the new M18x doesn't have any problems out of the box!

I just got the "Do you wish to cancel or continue" e-mail today. Called and the rep said the Killer 1103 wireless has been out of stock and now am waiting to 4/19. Worst part is I would gladly swap the standard one in, but I have to cancel and go to the back of the line with a new order.

wedward, did they give you any idea of when they are to receive more killer cards? or does anyone know?

Got my M18x today, so far quite happy except for a few little annoyances (media frame under arrow keys bulging out a bit, space bar scratching the media frame as a result) but still not too bad, nothing I can't live with. Maybe I can fix it myself in the future if I ever tear down the machine.

Just finished installing drivers, going to benchmark it now on stock Dell drivers.

    EDIT
    P6279 3DMarks
Not too bad, with a stock clock of 715/900.
Temperatures looked very good too, playing Crysis 2 put the cards around mid 70's, rarely hitting 82 (highest).
Going to activate CCC Overdrive and boost both cards to 740/1000

No they had no real details. They said the part was out of stock, meaning more likely their stock were all defective. That's the word I'm hearing from other sources. All they said was they were expecting a new batch in this week, so urged me to keep it in production.

Finally - a rep calls and said my 18x is completed but waiting scanning and boxing. 1-2 more biz days (what no weekend guys???) means not until next week. Prior rep said they would overnight it and now the guys says I need to cancel and re-order to change shipping... LOL.
Maybe I will see it next week! and join the ranks...

    Sooooo close....

So I called yesterday wanting to cancel but found out it would ship yesterday (almost 1 month delay from orig est. Purchased 2/27). Person said they would call when shipped. So I say fine I need the track number ASAP as I am out of town on emergency leave and need to tell FEDEX to hold my shipment at facility. No problem they said. Well then about 11pm Last night I get a random email saying the package was delivered and signed for yesterday! ....email from FEDEX says signed for by my name. I looked at the tracking and it actually shipped a couple days earlier but even the Dell rep didn't know that! I had my neighbor go look to see if it was on porch which, thank god, it was so they put it in there house. So now just have to wait another week till I get back....man I hope this thing works out of the box. In the scheme of things especially now it almost trivial but still last thing I need to deal with....fingers crossed for next Friday evening when I get back.

My status once updated to say that the laptop was shipped, got emails and everything. Except it was not shipped and Dell didn't realise the mess-up until 10 days later after I called them, that no laptop was never shipped and infact it hadn't been built yet.

Just a heads up if things start going sour, you call Dell and demand to know whats really going on. I called Dell various times and each time was fobbed off with various excuses such as 'its switching between couriers' and 'it takes a long time for it to come from China'. Then third time I called (10 days after) they admitted that it hadn't even been built.

If your laptop had spent a few days in Pre-Production and In-Production I wouldn't worry though, since for me it went from Order-Processing to Shipped in 8 hours (where it hadn't even been built)

The second time, when it was actually shipped, it had spent a few days in pre and in-production.

Hello. I'm new to the forum and a first time buyer of an alienware laptop, m18x, and is so excited.

I ordered a m18x on, live in Canada, April 10, 2012 and is currently in production with an estimated ship date on May 3.

What I wanted to discuss with the alienware community is whether other Canadian owners recieved their laptops earlier than estimated ship date?
and if so how many days earlier than the estimated ship date? or the polar opposite where one recieved their laptops far later than the e.t.a.?

(I know patience is a virtue but :D excited about owning a beast of a laptop and I know the refresh cycle is upon us with fresh new gpu & cpu but I recieved a discount that I couldnt refuse hehehe :D like $500+)

From what I remember last July, I didn't receive mine early for sure. It was definitely delivered around the e.t.a., but I wasn't home to receive the shipment so in the end I received it a few days after.

On a side note, I found something interesting for any Canadians looking for an M18x. Not sure if this would be considered a deal or another Dell pricing error, but seems like they are giving away FREE dual 6990M upgrades ($550 value)?! The base $1999 model is listed with Dual 6990s, yet the second column has the GTX560M. I can add it to cart and all. I got my Dual 580M's the same way for free back then, Dell DOES acknowledge their pricing errors. Anyways here's the link:

OMG  I need to cancel and reorder now since I can get a SLI 580m for just slightly more than I payed for with my current order /sigh.

Thanks for the info, now I can atleast get a better setup and a better deal.
I am pretty sure it is not an error because I ordered the first deal with $1999 model and it came with xfire 6990m as base option.

Now I just gotta cancel/re-order with em SLi 580m's.
