@ciddireblackire: When did you place your order?

I ordered mine early yesterday (5/3) and it gave me an ETA of 6/4 :(

I wouldn't think it would take them that long to assemble it, especially since they haven't started offering the new AMD cards yet and I ordered GTX 675M's.

Yes, it would be very interesting (and probably calm some nerves) if we could track the order vs ship dates of the first few.

    Congrats on the great machine!

Thanks! I'm really excited about it. My first Alienware and first SLI setup. I can't wait to replace my ASUS G74SX (gimped Best Buy version, 128-bit 560M) with this. I'm so excited, I decided to finally join NBR :)

Did they give you any trouble throughout the ordering process, or? You just simply asked out of the blue? Can't imagine why they'd just front the cash for a next-day delivery out of nowhere.

I chose next day as well. I ordered on line and it was only $25 dollars for me (I am too impatient to wait an extra 6 days). I seem to remember it costing more like $100 the last time I ordered (XPS 15 - December 2010). Odd...

Bummer - I could have sworn I read that all CPUs for the R2's would be Ivy and not Sandy. Did your order list an Ivy CPU or a Sandy CPU?

I waited until after they put Ivy CPUs up on the website before I ordered, so I am expecting to get an Ivy CPU.

According to what Allen said in the sales assistance for the US and Canada post they would all ship with the Ivy bridge except for the i5 for the m14x system.

Re: Alienware Sales Assistance (Live) for US and Canada. Upgrade and New system purchases.
    IVY Bridge is in!
Every new system will come out with Ivy Bridge except the m14x i5. As Bill mentioned.

Curious, was your M17xR3 new or from the Outlet? I wonder why they would replace it with such a different (and much more expensive) M18x?

What were your M17xR3 basic specs?

    Nice M18x system btw!

Did you get ahold of anyone at Dell to see if they will send out a tech to replace the cpu with the IB?

I hope they get this fixed and the systems come out with the IB otherwise I would have waited to order mine, my ETA is June 4.

I ordered on 04/23, got the "It has shipped!" email today, but no tracking code. I purchased early on the understanding that it would IB. I'll be disappointed if it isn't, but then again, my order says SB so what recourse do I have?

    Original configuration was this:
    2670 CPU
    580 gpu
    320 (5400)
    Killer wireless card
    16gb ram

It was certified refurbished for 1929.00 but I had 20 percent off coupon and they managed to apply a student discount of 75 and offered me 50 to exchange instead of returning the system. So after discounts it was about 1525.XX.

No drivers for 675m yet so SLI is disabled.

Called NVIDIA rep to get the word on driver release date.

They didn't ship the system with SLI-capable drivers? Lame...

Mine is supposed to be arriving today (ordered 5/3). I'll post later when I can check mine out

Edit: I wonder if the 580M drivers would work, since the 675M is supposed to be basically the same card...

    Nope. Already tried that.

Even tried changing the device ID to spoof the drivers.

    UPDATE**

My unit is a dud. Dell is shipping out a replacement.

Very poor QA on these units.

    @ciddireblackire:

That's really disappointing. I hope they get you a replacement quickly.

I got mine today. I am able to use SLI and have been able to test a few games. My only issue so far is a couple of the keys on the bottom of the keyboard catch on the keyboard surround a little. I think I just need to shift the surround a little bit.

    Best of luck

That is generally an indication of one of the following:
    • The surround is not snapped into place at the edge nearest the keyboard. Press down on the edge adjacent to the keyboard and it should snap into place. The bottom edge of the keys should barely be visible and almost perfectly aligned with the edge of the surround.
    • The tabs on the lower edge of the keyboard are not slid into the small "pockets" that secure it, which raises the keyboard higher than it should be. Fixing that, if it is not fixed by the above suggestion, will require removing the bezel and the screws across the top edge of the keyboard and inserting the tabs where they belong, then reinstalling the screws and bezel.

Well that's what is SUPPOSED to happen.

However, DELL returns department is denying that the auto upgrade post even exists.

AW support agrees with me but it's Dell that's causing issues.

I've tried to reach out to the Dell contacts on the forum and hopefully they can assist me.

AW support guys are fantastic but Dell support is beyond terrible.

For a $3k + laptop this is an unreasonable amount of hassle

I think how it works depends alot on what they have available. once a system is deemed for replacement, the try to find a similar spec'd system in the outlet, if there are none similar available, they will then start on the "better". They will rather send a superior refurb from outlet, than send a "new" replacement like the M17x r4 which likely would be closer to specs.

You won the lottery my friend, Congrats!

This is what is posted on the direct2dell site:

Last week, John Blain mentioned that we’d be upgrading orders of the new Alienware M14x, M17x and M18x laptops we recently introduced. Since then, sites like Engadget, The Verge and Ubergizmo took notice, and since then some customers have had some questions. I wanted to take a few minutes to clarify some details on the subject.

If you ordered one of the new Alienware M14, M17 or 18x laptops after we introduced them on April 19, we’ve upgraded your order from the 2nd generation Intel quad core processor to the equivalent 3rd generation aka “Ivy Bridge” processor. There is one dual-core configuration of the Alienware M14x configuration that does not have an Ivy Bridge equivalent—because only quad core 3rd generation Intel processors are available at this time. Outside of that, all customers globally who have ordered one of the new systems should receive 3rd generation Ivy Bridge processors when your order ships (if it hasn’t already).

For those of you who have already received your new system, the easiest way to confirm the processor is via the System Properties in Windows 7. Here’s how to get there:
    •Click on the Start Button
•Right Click on Computer (or whatever you renamed your machine to)
    •Click Properties

This should bring you to the System Properties information window which will look like this:

The screenshot above reflects an i7 Quad Core Ivy Bridge processor. If you ordered an i7 configuration, you should see something like “Intel ® Core ™ i7 3xxx QM CPU” in the Processor field. The key is the 3xxx part—it’s three as in third-generation Intel Core processor.

If you still have questions, or if you ordered one of these new systems and find out you do not have an Ivy Bridge (third-generation Intel Core) processor, let me know in the comments or send an e-mail message with your order number or service tag to [email protected].

    This was dated May 9/2012.

    Thanks Mr. Fox! +1 rep

I've tried the first approach and it fixed most of the keys (Windows key and left ALT key). The space bar and left CTRL key still catch a little (though less than before), so I'll try your second approach tonight.

UPDATE: Tried the second approach and was able to shift my keyboard up ever so slightly so the bottom keys no longer catch on the panel. Thanks again!!

Since yours shipped out today, I'm guessing you ordered after me (5/3), in which case I would think you would get the IB processor (since mine has one).

Does your order show an IB processor? I apologize in advance if you've already posted that and I missed it. My order showed an IB processor.

I ordered 4/30 and my order shows the SB I really hope it comes with the IB otherwise it will have to be opened up to change the cpu. You got yours fast I am in Canada so I probably won't get mine until next week.
