M18x Order Status Discussion

The mobo and cpu will need to be changed.

Those units have the legacy m18x r1 mobos

 

I'm in Canada too, ordered mine same time as yours (30/4), tomorrow will arrive to my door... There was a small problem with my R1 and I returned it. Ordered the R2 in exchange with 675SLi... Lets see. I'm an AMD fan, I cannot wait to see the NVidia cards how perform (read all Mr. Fox comments, pros & cons). 6 years back I made a desktop with dual sli 7900GT cards. It works even now perfect, upgraded from XP to Win7 and I still use it in the office. Overall the GPU's where running hot in the system (had 3 years warranty on the GPU's), replaced them several times in the beginning, but now no issues. By the way the cards I am talking about are WinTech GeForce 7900GT 256MB

 

VERY quick turnaround for my order - placed on the 3rd, due for delivery tomorrow! Not quite sure how I'm going to get anyone to be around for the delivery, but I'm super glad it's going to be here before my holiday

 

If you are Canadian, you are in for a bumpy ride. I called Customer Service today (the rep that Ciddire uses is US only) and was told no upgrade is available.

I have sent an email to the address on the Direct2Dell blog to see if they can provide assistance. If not, I return it I guess.

 

I don't think I will get mine until next week as it is still showing GROUND LINEHAUL in the US. Let us know if yours is the IB cpu, I am hoping they all show up with the IB now.

 

Let's hope they honor their word when they said all M18x systems are the new motherboard with the IB and replace the cpu's that were sent out with SB, keep us posted with what you find out.

 

I just got off the phone with the Dell "Customer Concern" representative for Canada. No joy. They will not honour the upgrade. I have to return the product and order a new machine.

This is really no way to treat a customer who just handed over $3,000.

What a shame. It seems like a fantastic machine. I'll probably just buy something from somebody else.

 

Did you try contacting AW support BEFORE Dell?

AW support fully understands the issue but Dell is clueless

Yes, mine was shipped with IB. However I have the 2960xm & I'm going to remove the IB CPU. I did not get a chance to look at the system yet except:

1 - From outside it looks exactly as the R1;
2 - The 64GB mSATa is -> Samsung mSATA 830.

I really appologize not being able to provide more info, I had to rush back to the hospital. I have some 'family problems' and I am going to spend some more days over here.

Feelin like im most unluckiest person, ive been told that i will get completely New offer as ive faced to much inconvenience so i was expectin R2 version. but ive got offer for just same replacement ( Now they want me to pay more on top of this one to get R2. ive already paid last time to much now they decreased price of R1 with in just a week after ive paid. so so again there is a big gap now...Dont know wht to do just lookin forward for next Dell call :||||

 

What's up with Dell order status? I ordered my m18x last week and thought I would call and see if there was any update. I was shocked when I heard it was shipped but then heard your order was shipped on may 22nd and will be delivered on the 27th. Take it they are having problems?

 

anyone from the U.S. that got theirs with missing User Manual, Hat, Sticker and what not from the accessory box?

 

I am from Canada I received mine yesterday the only thing in mine was the mouse pad no hat or sticker.

 

but was the leather manual included?

 

No nothing like that I just checked the box again so I guess I will call to see if they will send it out.

Did you end up having to return your system to get the IB cpu?

I received my system yesterday and it shipped with the IB but it still showed SB online.

 

I had to start from scratch, reorder and ship the old one back. In the meantime I'll have the cost of the first machine on my credit card.

Not the best solution, but better than being stuck with a machine I did not want.

 

All I got was 2 CDs, mouse pad and PSU

 

I spoke with 2 different people 1 said it depends on the promotion that they are having (I don't think he knew what he was talking about), the other person said they aren't giving anything with the systems anymore.

 

They surely don't know what they are talking about. At least a User Manual should be included, don't you guys think? Prolly they weren't able to finish the printing of the user manual for the R2s when they shipped these first few batches..

 

My M18XR2 with 7970's just shipped yesterday from GA supposed to be NBD but it shows estimated delivery 5/17

It is a fantastic machine. You would be doing yourself a major disservice to downgrade to a competitor's product simply because they didn't change their normal process in order to handle things exactly as you wanted. It would be better to return the laptop and order a new one configured the way you want it than to disassemble the one you have to swap out components. Check with them to confirm, but you have 21 days to continue using what you have while the replacement is being built. They may even let you continue using it in the meanwhile.

From Georgia? When did they start shipping systems from Georgia? They normally go straight to the owner from the factory in China (per our Bill and Louis during one of our conference calls).

It wasn't actually a change of their normal process. They treated me worse than their U.S. customers (I'm in Canada). U.S. customers got a new machine sent out and then shipped theirs back. No new order, just a swap.

In the end, logic won over disappointment. I reordered and the 7970s were available so I sprung for those. They wouldn't even upgrade me to next day ship for the trouble which seemed odd.

It just gives me concerns about their future customer service is all.

5/11 I was surprised my first new Alienware laptop took 15 days to ship the second one 10 days and this one looks like 5 or 4 days lol

they actually shipped today with overnight but on fedex show they receive the info yesterday

 

Did you post what you ordered? Curious now if it's certain config's are quicker to ship.

 

I guess that has something to do with the speed they process an order my machine is the base with no customized plate and the following upgrades

His original ship date was the 29th, then it changed to the 24th, and now tomorrow .

You guys about to receive those R2s.. let us know if the User Manual, Alien Hat, and Sticker are included. Those first few units landed don't have those.

 

My replacement M18x arrived today.

It had User Manual and mousepad in it (It's REALLY bad qual)

They also forgot to hook up the SLI bridge, it was just chilling out loose under the keyboard.

 

Pretty fast build time, even faster than before in my experience. I ordered on May 10, and it shipped Today, May 17. That's 7 days... And with the complimentary free Next Day Delivery, I gotta say I'm impressed

 

I ordered mine on May 14th, called 1-800-254-3692 to check status, and automated messaged said it "shipped" May 24, I lol'd at the past tenseness since its only the 17th.

 

Ordered on 15th, shipped on the 18th. Pretty fast indeed.

Mouse pad, no manual, no hat, no sticker, resource disk and windows disk. At least they will wrap it up in the cloth, going to use that when I pack it up in the back pack.

Just placed my order through HIDEvolution. Specs in signature (well, the Momentus XT is coming from my current M17).

They've told me it's 2 weeks standard build time right now - but seeing the speed of some of the builds on here, I'm hopeful it's a bit quicker

Total of £2,372.60 (or $3,752.33) including the (expensive) shipping here. A lot more expensive than you lucky Americans could have got it for...a hell of a lot cheaper than it would have been in the UK.

Just one question, is it possible with an SSD to have it as a boot drive and a caching drive? I plan on allocating 32GB or so of my mSATA SSD for caching, and the rest for Windows and any 'core' programs.

 

Thanks fox, ordered the 11th and here on the 18th. Quick. Curious how the drivers are working so far... Bumping up to 240 GB ssd mushkin x2 here in a couple days, not sure the 750 will fit...was up and down about either going one msata 240 gig with either one or two 750's or two 240 ssd's with squeezing that 750 if possible.
