Ordered on 5/22: M18xR2 with 3820QM, Dual 7970M, Killer, and Bluray - will upgrade to SSD and memory.

Ordered as M17xR3 replacement on 5/24: M17xR4 with 3820QM, Single 7970, Killer, and Bluray.

Has anyone reviewed both of these next to each other? i.e. display quality, game speed, build quality?

Tennessee1, congrats and enjoy your new system! I hope screen flickering isn't going to be a common issue amongst R2 owners.

Also, you might consider using a single line SIGNATURE for your system configuration instead of 45 lines of order details. Less is more. :)

So I picked up an m18x with CF 6990m's from the outlet for a bargain basement price of $1400 due to clever haggling over a previous outlet coupon. I now get an email from Dell that the system is back ordered, what gives? I thought outlet systems were basically sitting in boxes somewhere ready to be shipped. Can anyone explain to me why there would be a back order? when I still see comparable systems in stock on the outlet site? Cust support claims that these machines are tested, and that a part probably failed and is awaiting replacement.. which I've never really heard of, I've normally gotten outlet systems in a day or so.

For my troubles they've credited back $60 to my account, but I really wanted this in before my bday next weekend WAAH

I hope i don't have to play the order delay twice and cancel game, because i'll really pissed If i miss out on such a good deal.

You would have to call in to talk with a sales rep they can tell you how much it would be but it can be 2 to 3 hundred dollars for a 1 year extention.

If you buy the parts from Dell and have them install the parts they should be covered under your warranty, I don't think they give free upgrades on any parts.

My M18xR2 ordered on 5/22 shipped on 5/29. It should be arriving tomorrow.

Funny thing is that I also ordered a 330W power supply that was supposed to ship first and currently it is still "in production".

I ordered Friday 5/25, EDD says Friday 6/11 (with 2nd business day ship) but I'm really hoping it gets here one business day sooner on Friday 6/8.

I called and tried to change my shipping to next business day but they told me I couldnt make any changes once it went into production (even shipping changes).

I finally got fed up and called today. They said it should ship within 48 hours. That's still 14 days since I orderer, granted there was a holiday in there but that seems a little excessive.

So I've ordered my M18x R2 already, details in sig, and I'm curious. My build time shows two weeks. Is that the average time others have been provided with when they ordered? How long did it actually end up taking for it to arrive? What could ever take two weeks to do to a laptop? I'm just wondering what Alienware is doing to my poor onxy slab of cutting edge technology right now. :)

Similar config (though I'm upgrading the RAM and disks myself)
Order placed 06/25/2012, est delivery date 07/10/2012 (overnight shipping)

Perhap it takes some time to align the 680M framistans into the ventricular doohickeys.

Ordered on the 15th, received on the 20th. Had 7970s though, so you might have a bit more of a delay while they get 680s in stock.

Hey there guys, I was just wondering how long orders usually take from production to shipping with the M18x R2 7970xrfires. I ordered 2 weeks ago, a friend ordered 3 days after me, and his arrived today...mine is still in production as of today. The only difference between ours is that I went with the 3820 QM and he went with the 3620 QM. oh and his is red.

Can't get through to anyone who can tell me what part of production it is in, or if it's been delayed for some reason. No e-mails, either telling me of a problem, or in reply to the ones I've sent out. No phonecalls returned OR sometimes not even picked up. When I do get someone to answer they are from India, and are usually rude and pass me off as fast as possible, I did this for half an hour until I started recognizing voices again.

Not upset about the lack of it being shipped yet, more upset with the total lack of customer support going on. My Estimated Delivery Date isn't until July 9th, my friends was July 21st. Anyone ever have anything similar happen?

If all you got was a quote, then you might want to check back and make certain that your order was placed. If you don't have an order number, then you didn't actually place an order.

I also didn't order online, and got a quote - which I then had to plug into Dell's quote purchase system and order it there.

I was trying to do the same but they had to verify my info because i was "flagged" and so I spent about 30 to 40 minutes on the phone and my account showed that the correct amount was deducted.

I forgot to mention I live in California whats the wait time for the folks who live on the west side of the United States.

So I talked to Dell today, FINALLY, got a very nice east indian lady on the phone, who told me that my laptop is being help up by a "Minor parts backorder" but that it should still be delivered by the EDD of July 9th. She said shipped by then and I had to correct her that the date I was given was a delivery date.

When I asked which part was slowing up the process I just got silence, and then she told me that sometimes the system takes a few days to upgate specific information, and thats the best she could tell me. I then explained to her the trouble I had been having getting a hold of someone to which she replied "It isn't our fault you couldn't get a hold of someone" I just said wow and hung up the phone at that point...I hope this isn't the same service I can look forward too if I ever have a problem with it.

    Hello everyone,

I've been lurking around the forums here for the past week or so, and I decided I would let everyone know that I purchased my M18X R2 laptop on the 2nd of July. It comes with the following configuration:

    3rd Generation Intel Core i7-3610QM (6MB Cache, up to 3.3GHz w/ Turbo Boost 2.0)
    8GB Dual Channel DDR3 at 1600MHz
    2GB GDDR5 Nvidia GeForce GTX 660M
    750GB 7200RPM SATA 3Gb/s
Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit Service Pack 1, English, w/Media
    Adobe Acrobat Reader
    Slot-Loading Dual Layer DVD Burner (DVD+-RW, CD-RW)
Internal High-Definition 5.1 Surround Sound Audio
    Intel 2230 Wireless-N
    Alienware M18x 240W A/C Adapter
Microsoft Office 2010 Home and Student, English
Dell Hardware Warranty Plus On-Site Service, Extended Year(s)
Dell Hardware Warranty Plus On-Site Service, Initial Year
In-Home Service after Remote Diagnosis, Parts and Labor On-Site Response, 1 Year Extended
In-Home Service after Remote Diagnosis, Parts and Labor On-Site Response, Initial Year
    2 Year Limited Warranty
Soft Contracts Dell In-Home Hardware Agreement for Alienware
    Warranty Support, 1 Year Extended
    Warranty Support, Initial Year

I purchased the system online through AAFES for $2,397.84 and received an additional 10% off for purchasing it on the first day of the receipt of my Military Star Card. That made the final total price $2,158.00. I'm not sure how good the warranties are that I have, but I wasn't given the option of choosing anything different. I do plan to upgrade much of the system down the line as money allows me to do so (being 100% disabled I don't have a lot of money!), but I am quite satisfied with the system as it currently is.

I do have one question. I ordered my system on the afternoon of July 2nd, and as of today (7/8) the order is still in production. Does anyone know how long it normally takes to finish production on a model like this? I didn't order anything particularly unique with this order, yet they have given me a delivery date of July 17th, even with next business day shipping.

Thanks for taking the time to read my post, and I look forward to reading your responses.

For systems with the 680m figure around two weeks for assembly. The term assembly is misleading. Your laptop is most likely not being assembled but rather waiting in line for the 680m due to the large demand. After the next week or two I'd guess that production times start to drop as the backlog of orders needing the 680m are cleared and delivered.

He ordered a R2 with a base 660m, not a 680m (if his post is what you are referring to). :)

I haven't noticed, but has anyone actually taken delivery of a SLI 680m R2 yet?

    Lancorp is correct,

The sytem I ordered can with the standard 660M graphics card. I checked last night and noticed that orders placed last night had a preliminary delivery date of 7/18. Those orders were placed 8 days after mine yet are showing a delivery date of only 1 day after my expected date. It's not a big deal, I'm just wondering what would be causing the holdup on a pretty standard system.. :) My lack of patience is my biggest problem. :)

    Thanks Norantal,

According to customer service they have an EDD of the 17th with shipping on the 16th. They said that it could be sooner, but that the EDD is the longest that it should take. Unfortunately nobody seems to be able to tell me where we are in the "production" process, so I am at the mercy of the company.. :)

FINALLY got a real update from Dell this morning. Apparently my laptop was on hold due to a part back order, which is probably what is happening with everyone else. They said that my order is now in "Status Completed" and they say it will take 1-2 days for the package to leave Dell and arrive to the carrier, and I will receive it the next business day once it gets to the carrier. SO...if everything goes according to schedule I should have my laptop by Friday, and THEN I can start the process of cancelling the order and reordering my system the way I want it...with the 680m! Whew....this whole process has caused more hair to grow on my chest!

Here's a question for everyone: How long did it take your orders to leave Dell and get to the shipper once the order was completed? Should I expect it to take two days to reach FedEx and then one day to reach me?? I guess at this point it doesn't matter, I'm just wondering..
