just got the confirmation that my order shipped for delivery Monday. Sweet!

Got back from Vegas and picked up my new laptop from Fedex. They actually shipped the correct 330W adapter after all the misinformation and incorrect statuses.
I think I'm done with the sales side of Dell for quite some time.. Hopefully this beast will last that long! -

Glad to hear you finally got it, Tommy.
I hope the laptop serves you well!

I got my 680M SLI M18x lappy on saturday. Unfortunatley with a faulty USB and mother board...Dell has offered me a replacement I woudl be getting this in a weeks time.....
-
Mine just shipped today, and a delivery of tomorrow! Perfect timing, right on my birthday : )
-
Last week received M18x R2 and it was DOA, turn power on and got loud beep 7 beeps, then smell burn from the laptop. It would not start.
Order the replacement on Monday and ship out today, next business day. It should be here on next Monday 6, 2012. -
Yikes, I just made my order today and shipping is on the 20 of august. With all these random missfortunes and DOA's, I hope my second time around turns out ok. Well if all goes sour, this m11x is still my best backup.
-
To avoid confusion, please note all dates referenced will be in the English (British) Format DD/MM/2012
Righty... I placed my order online 06/08/2012, and received acknoweledgement email (with link to US site - unable to track order from there) process of guesswork managed to log in and view my order on UK site only I see two orders instead of one,
Order #1 "Order Acknoweledged" EDD 21/09/2012
Order #2 "Order Acknoweledged" EDD 28/08/2012
I assumed wrongly that Order #1 was the M18x and #2 were the accessories I'd ordered but couldn't find any way to view order contents, so I fired of a snarky email to Dell.
On 09/08/2012 I recieved my "Order Confirmation" emails...
Order #1Order #2Order Tracker updated as follows
Order #1 "Pre-Production" EDD 21/09/2012
Order #2 "In-Production" EDD 28/08/2012
On 10/08/2012 I get a response from Dell stating that the Backpack and External HDD were coming from 3rd party vendor and that there had been shortages in supply... EDD should be 26/08/2012 (the date on the website remains unchanged at 21/09/2012)
and at 01:10 on 11/08/2012 I get the "Order Shipped" invoice for Order #1.
Dell website updated...
Order #1 "Shipped" EDD Shipped
Order #2 "In-Production" EDD 28/08/2012
I have tried the automated phone service in the UK (its the weekend
) and that says that "your order is being assembled"

Hi guys! First time poster here!
I ordered one of the heavily-discounted year old M18x's near the middle of August. This morning, I received an email from Dell stating that production was delayed and the estimated arrival time had been pushed from September 6th to the 18th.
Frustrated, I considered cancelling my order and started looking at looking at other systems. Long story short, the M18x I ordered has an I7 2670QM, 4 gigs of RAM (Newegg upgrades are far cheaper than Dell), and 580m SLI. I configured a CZ-17 Valkyrie with an I7 3610QM, 8 gigs of RAM, and a 680m for $250 less than the already steeply discounted M18x.
So what would you do? Cancel the Alienware and get the IBuyPower system or wait for the M18x to arrive? If it matters, Dell is also giving me $300 in giftcards to spend in their store so I'd lose that as well.
Thanks so much! -
i personally would still swing for the m18x for the better build quality, better sound card and also for the advanced customer service (best to get a hold of a good Rep when calling up there.)
-
The extra cost of the M18x will be worth it for the warranty/service alone! I would not buy from IBuyPower. Give Dell some time, I'm almost certain they're flooded with Outlet orders and maybe even the lack of 580m SLI configs are slowing things down a bit. If they delay again, I suggest contacting one of the reps here to take a look at the order and see what's up.
EDIT: Unless I missed something, I assume 'heavily discounted' meant Outlet with a coupon. If not, and Dell had some awesome deals for new M18x-R1s during mid Aug, then the delay is most definitely due to 580m SLI. -
Lann, it was actually not an outlet purchase but a coupon on Dell's main page that took $950 off select builds of M18x-R1. IIRC, the system only had one video card option: the 580m SLI.
-
Yeah then most likely that is the part holding you back. I myself am waiting for my 580m SLI as well. Outlet shipped me the wrong cards lol. I've been working with the reps here and hopefully it wont be long for them to come back into stock.
It's odd Dell would force people to buy a config with a part they have on back order...
If you are in no major rush, I would still wait for the M18x for the quality and service. But you know, one can only wait so long. -
I had ordered the same system and spoke to a rep a couple of days ago who told me that the system would sit in the production phase until I got an email that these are no longer available....He actually said May they stopped producing R1's, sounded quite knowledgeable & was very helpful. I went for a R2 that came out to 2546 but with a better processor, 250gb larger HDD, 2gig more ram, 580 to 675's (ya I know same), blue ray... came out like 370 more than I was initially spending with free 2nd day delivery and a gift card for 5% of my purchase... It should be night & day compared to my M17xR1.
-
BTW, just picked up an OCZ 256MB Vertex 4 SSD for primary drive
-
Don't buy a CZ-17 Valkyrie. You will end up being disappointed with most so-called gaming notebooks that are not an M18x. Most are cheaply made and do not perform as well, not to mention poor warranty service. I agree with the others. Stick with the M18x R1 or R2 and you'll own the best gaming system available anywhere.
I am going to merge this with the order discussion thread, as that is where this type of discussion belongs. -
Sen, thank you for the enlightening post. As it turns out, I did end up cancelling my order after I saw Devil's announcement of 30% off outlet store purchases.
So, I now have an M18x being shipped to me with an i7 2860, 8gigs of RAM, SSD, and the 580 SLI. For $300 less than the original system I ordered. Better computer, lower price? Done deal. -
A day late and a dollar short.
-
I'll preface by saying that this isn't a complaint, but of an observation. I ordered my m18x and Messenger Bag on 9/18. According to various sources:
Dell Website
Computer - In Production, ETA 10/3
Bag - Shipped on 9/19, ETA 9/24 and UPS tracking number provided
Dell Android App, My Account Screen
Computer - Shipped, ETA 9/28
Bag - In Transit, ETA 9/19
Dell Android App, Order Details Screen
Computer - In Production, ETA 10/3
Bag - Delivered, Shipped on 9/19, No ETA, and UPS tracking number provided.
So, for those that get conflicting ship dates, etc. the information above seems to indicate that there may be multiple systems and/or places this data is stored @Dell. -
Just thought I'd update for 9/25. I ordered bag and laptop at the same time with 7-10 day shipping to MA.
Computer bag shipped from Texas in 9/19 via UPS ground. ETA according to UPS is 9/26.
Computer itself shipped from NJ on 9/24 via FedEx ground. ETA Is today(!!!) according to FedEx.
So, both items will arrive ahead of ETA from Dell. Huzzah! -

Just a heads up for anyone interested. My UK rep told me Today that he can manually take orders for new machines that include the new Intel cpu refreshed processors.....3940xm, 3840qm, 3740qm and 3630qm. They should be available to configure on the webistes within the next few weeks. If you are looking to order, maybe you can speak to a rep in your country and see if they can do the same. Obviously, YMMV depending on how good the rep is LOL.

HI Guys/Gals
Been a while since I posted but, i've got a question on manufacturing time.
In two weeks i will be ordering a M18x, 4.1Ghz processor, 6Gb RAM (upgrading myself to 16Gb), 500Gb HDD and 2x2Gb GeForce 680M Sli... anyone know how long it will take to build (roughly)? Oh, i'm also going to run two WD Scorpio Black's at 750Gb, also fitted myself...
OB -

I'd say you would be looking at 2 to 3 weeks from ordering to receiving - depending on parts availability. Estimated Delivery Dates (EDD's) are often beaten in my experience, but you can't rely on that being the case.
-
Oodle-Bear Alienware Mug, Testpilot
Thanks for that, do you get a respawn DVD, I had a m17x R1, and it came with it? I only ask for setting up the two WD Scorpio's in Raid 0...?
-
steviejones133 Notebook Nobel Laureate
No, you no longer get a respawn disc included but you can make one when using AlienRespawn. I would advise doing this ASAP after getting your machine. You will be able to create discs or a USB recovery image which you can stash away for future use.
-
I just bought a r2 and was wondering when they first bill you? does the bill come in the mail or is it taken out of the account immediately as i have no money in my account at this time....this is rather urgent
-
I believe they bill when the laptop ships. You can confirm that with Rev in the sales thread. I don't know if they take a pre-authorization to verify funds like hotels and rental car agencies do, but I doubt that they do since they have no vested interest in the sale before it ships.
-
Oodle-Bear Alienware Mug, Testpilot
I was told that they take payment about 24hrs before shipping.
OB -
Does the tracking for shipment get messed up often? I hear that it does in a lot of unboxing videos on Youtube.
-
Oodle-Bear Alienware Mug, Testpilot
Not in my experience, I am tracking my order status daily using the Dell web-site, when I was ordering my m17x, the only "problem" was that the Mug I had ordered had delayed the actual order, until I rang and sorted it out, it shipped shortly after that...
If you have any doubts about an order, just ring Dell/Alienware and they will tell you.

Hi guys,
I ordered my M18X on Friday 28th September 2012, Sunday 30th September i received order conformation...
From this point, what is the "normal" build time assuming no problems?
I spoke to a rep who told me I'm already in production but, the telephone status thingy says getting ready for production...
How do you tell in real time, where your order is...?
OB
P.S. Yes, I am a little impatient...sorry
-
It may take from 1-3 weeks, it all depends on part availability. Last purchase came in in about a week
You can check your order status here. **BEWARE: that link may become quite addictive to us impatients xD -

Thanks,
I'll hope for sooner rather than later... yeah, I've got that page bookmarked... doesn't seem to change lol

Good luck, I also upgraded from the Area 51 m17x, I miss it as it treated me well durrimg deployments, but I'm loving the sheer power of my dual 7970s with zero issues! I ordered mine 14 sept and received it 26 sept.
-
If you call Dell and tell them that you really need it ASAP, they"ll most likey upgrade u to NBD. I ordered mine on14th of September and I got it by the 25th. Dell said the 28th but I guess I was lucky. -
Oodle-Bear Alienware Mug, Testpilot
It's a good idea to call them Lilone but, I'm not sure about them rushing it... I'd rather wait and make sure nothing was skipped in the process i think. From what you guys have said it won't be too long now anyway. it'll be a week on Monday so hopefully not too much longer, i find it hard to believe they are busy with these machines after-all, they are not cheap and most people who buy them have saved up for ages.

-
so much for sleeping tonight then huh?
santa was very good to me. brought me a np9370 -
nice!!!! i was looing at those to buy i love the chassis look. how is it runnin for you? its probly got some nice power with those 680s
i went the the 7970s for a change up from previous desktops and laptops lol -
Congrats on the new rig. I hope it brings you many years of happiness. I've had my R2 for a few months now and can say with total honesty that if it were in the chassis of a desktop computer...one would scarcely know it was a laptop at all. They are beastly. Running games like Crysis 2 and Metro 2033 at max settings in 1920x1080P is damn fun...silky smooth.
-
nice! im stoked on running some games through it. xfire has been good to you?
-
I had a few little issues with the original driver that came with it, but that driver issue is a thing of the past. The performance is stunning. Xfire is a good thing my friend....very good.
-
runs great. if i was picking myself i would defintely be getting the m18x but sometimes deals just come along. this thing does run very cool though. usually <40 degrees with web browsing, email, ect. im a bit of an nvidia fanboy but im sure those 7970 will make you smile.
-
I can go either red or green lol both have served me well but passing up deals is pretty hard LLOL
-
Best of luck with that new BEAST! Hope it serves you well. Those 7970's are really cookin' now that they finally got some good drivers.
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Oh I am sure they will, especially with a little tweaking, get up to the same as a desktop 7870 xfire setup
-
After reading this on Dell's order status page, I'm wondering if my replacement could show up at my home and yet still show "In Production" "Tracking information availability It may take up to three days after an order has been shipped for tracking information to appear online. If you cannot track your order and the estimated delivery date has not yet passed, do not be worried"
