Hi all,
so I'm scheduled to receive my new alienware m18x-R2 sometime next week (i believe it says Tuesday). Dell sent me an email saying my order had shipped out and linked me to the FedEx tracking number (under my order status on dell website).
My question is, I know I won't be home to receive & sign for the shipment, so i tried to click "Hold at FedEx location" but get the following error message
"This is a problem...
This option is not available for this shipment due to shipper restrictions. Please contact the shipper. This option is not available for this shipment."
I know Dell ships alienwares via 'indirect signature' required, but how come I can't hold shipment at a fedex location for pickup on my own time (since i won't be home to get it)? any suggestions appreciated.. -
Congratulations on the new beast! You'll love it.
Anyway, you will have to call FedEx and personally request your order to be held at the local FedEx location in your home town. I believe the way Alienware ships their products is through "business class," and it differs from personal shipping methods. For example, I was able to hold products at FedEx from eBay sellers, but I wasn't able to hold products incoming from Dell or Alienware which required a signature.
Give them a call. Explain the situation. Tell them an expensive product will be sitting on your door step for hours, and you don't want it to be stolen (assuming they leave it - which they may not leave it there, they may send it back). They should be able to delay the shipment or hold it at a local FedEx facility for pick-up.
Good luck. -
not sure if i should call fedex or dell .. maybe i'll try fedex first

Ordered my M18x R2 a week ago today with 680m sli. Went into production on 8th Feb, but still sitting there. EDD is 21st Feb but I'm beginning to have my doubts it will be on time...Anyone else ordered recently? In contrast my I got my M14x last October in just one week from ordering to delivery!

I ordered my M18x on the 5th, and it should be here on Monday (the 18th.) I was hoping for a quicker shipment, as my M17x that I ordered last month only took 6 days to get to my house. It was about a week before my M18x actually started production (it said it was in production the day I placed the order, but I spoke with a rep afterwards who said that it was actually on hold in preproduction due to a parts delay.) Once it started production it went quickly.
Your laptop may not actually be in production yet, but it should still reach you by the 21st, especially if the rep gave you next-day deliver. Unfortunately mine will be shipping tomorrow (Friday) so it won't get here until Monday. I think I'm going to call Fedex to see if I can get them to hold it at their distribution center so I can pick it up Saturday. Not sure if it's possible, I just don't want to wait two more days to get my laptop. The wait is killing me lol. -
Here is the beast I ordered,
1 3rd Generation Intel Core i7-3840QM (8MB Cache, up to 3.8GHz w/ Turbo Boost 2.0)
1 16GB Dual Channel DDR3 at 1600MHz
1 English Keyboard, 101 Key, M18X R2
1 18.4 inch (467.36 mm) WLED WideFHD (1080p) display (1920 X 1080)
1 Dual 2GB GDDR5 NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680M SLI Enabled
1 32GB mSATA caching SSD
1 1TB RAID 0 (2x 500GB) 7200RPM
1 Nebula Red Anodized Aluminum
1 Slot-Loading Dual Layer Blu-ray Reader (BR-ROM, DVD+-RW, CD-RW)

Well, my order is placed. It only took 4 calls to get it straight, and it still isn't exactly right.
I placed the original order Friday evening, but both the sales rep and I forgot to address the personalized nameplate (I'm guessing it would have arrived blank).
A call back Monday morning to attempt to correct the oversight got me transferred to the 'order modification team'. The rep I spoke with had to cancel the original order
and resubmit it as a completely new order. Thats all fine and dandy, but looking at the order in 'my account' online afterward I noticed this time they forgot to add in the
'Dell Advantage Program' benefits (2nd day shipping and 5% back e-gift card).
A third call back to the order mod team, the rep I spoke with this time appologized for the inconvenience and upgraded my shipping method to Next Day,
but she STILL left off the Advantage Prog. gift card!
Yes, a fourth call was in order as 5% back on a $3000 laptop amounts to about $150. Again I was told that in order to fix it, the order would have to be cancelled and
resubmitted (at this point my frustration was really starting to build). The rep then told me he could leave the order 'as is' and make notes on my account that would enable
me to call back when I received my order and have the $150 credited to my account.
At this point I was tired of dealing with Dell (their "on-hold" music really gets annoying after you have to listen to it long enough!) and just agreed to this arrangement.
Estimated delivery is March 11 - We will see! -

Congrats on the order, sorry to hear about the difficulties with ordering.
I'm getting pretty annoyed with my order as well. Like I said earlier, I ordered on the 5th, and the estimated delivery date was the 15th (Friday.) I called early Friday morning, and the automated operator said my order had shipped already. I was pretty happy about that, and tried calling in later to get a tracking #. The rep said that there wasn't one available yet, but it should be available any minute now. Long story short, I've had to call in repeatedly trying to see if there is a tracking number available, and there still one. Some reps say that it hasn't shipped yet, while others say that it has. I have free next day delivery, so if it had actually shipped on Friday it would be here already.
I called in again earlier, and there's still no tracking #. I'm frustrated at this point, since I've been without a computer for over 2 weeks now, and rely on a computer to work (I work from home doing research for a govt contractor based in DC.) I can only hope that it actually ships today, but I'm skeptical at this point. I've asked if there's anything holding the order up, but the reps don't seem to know what they're talking about. This is especially annoying considering my M17x that I ordered last month only took 6 days to get here, so I was expecting a quick delivery for this laptop as well.
Edit: Still no tracking number, and representatives can't tell me anything other than it has been done with production since last week. Completely unacceptable imo. Means it won't be here tomorrow, and no one knows when it'll make it out for delivery. Very disappointed given the excellent service and quick build time I had with my M17x. -
Ok so i have a question for you guys. I just recieved my m18x r2 which i ordered with the i7-3740qm cpu. When i ran CPU-Z it states the installed proccessor is a 3820qm? Did i get screwed?

I say you got a upgrade man:thumbsup: Seriously call Dell
-
I placed my order on February 9th, with an estimated delivery date of the 22nd. I received an email on the 20th stating that my order had shipped, but provided no tracking number. Since I had 2nd day business shipping, it should have arrived on time. The afternoon of the 22nd came with no package, and still no tracking number. I contacted a Dell representative via on-line chat, and was told that my order had not shipped, and was still in production. I was told that a Dell case specialist would contact me to keep me updated on the status, and please allow 24-48 hours to resolve the issue. Today (3 days later) I received a call from a Dell representative, telling me the exact same thing I was told on the 22nd: Hasn't shipped, still in production, please allow 24-48 hours to resolve the issue. I would have appreciated a little more information than what I can already find out from their website.
This is the forth laptop I've purchased from Dell (second Alienware), and the first time I've ever experienced a delay like this. In fact, all my previous orders arrived ahead of schedule. -
My beast shipped today, but the backpack which was delayed, is not going to ship till the 6th of march. Really cant complain, the m18 is getting here a week and a half early.
-
Turns out the backpack is a problem because i have no way to transport the laptop.
I received my laptop on Thursday. Everything has been great with it. Yet I am have troubles with the support on getting my Orion bp to carry it. It was originally supposed to get here on 2/21 but the pushed it out to the ship date of my laptop. Well like I said I received the laptop early but no backpack.
So I called support and they told me that the do not know why it has not shipped because they are in stock. I get a support case opened and said I would get a response in24 hours. Well no reponse yesterday.
I call again, this time I was told it would ship Friday. End of Friday comes no shipping info. Now today is Saturday and I can not get ahold of anyone because I bought it throught the EPP. They are only open on weekdays.
I am so pissed right now. All I have received after they got paid is the run around and it is not even a big issue.
I love the laptop but if this is how I am going to be treated I will send it back. -

Seems a bit odd to risk a sale on a bag :s Part of the problem with a large company where the bits can't talk to each other I guess.
Maybe a baby carrier in the mean time?

Yeah - accessories ship separetly to machines, they are not part (technically) of the order - even though you probably paid for the at the same time. Sometimes, accessories can take an age to arrive after a machine has already landed - it's just the luck of the draw when it boils down to stocking levels I imagine.....Mayb Dell will compensate you if it's overshot it's EDD by a big margin.
-
The thing is they say it is in stock and they are giving me the run around. They moved my date by 2 weeks, call for an update and find out it is in stock and told it is shipping, but it doesn't. That to me is just spouting out garbage lies. Spending 4 grand I expect some truth. Because of the lies I was told just to sate me at the moment has damage my confidence in dell.
They could of told me sorry can not ship the backpack at this time. I may of looked for another place to get one, but I would not be as pissed as I am now by being lied to. -
steviejones133 Notebook Nobel Laureate
In which case, I can totally see your frustration.....
-
Apparently the orion is on back order now my date is 3 to 6 weeks. And now they are showing up on amazon and eBay. Everyone was out when I looked this weekend.
They took all the inventory and sent it to 3rd party vendors. I asked about that and they did say yes or no.
So I have a choice of waiting 3 to 6 weeks or pay more and get it from a 3rd party vendor.
So much bs over a backpack. -
steviejones133 Notebook Nobel Laureate
Bummer. I'd sell you mine that's never been used, but it would cost you an arm and a leg more to get it to you....
-
Is the wait for our machines really stretching time out? Will it make us live longer? How to pass the time... I think I will post my specs and stare at more unboxing vids..
Ok, I ordered this on 3/1 with a delivery date of 3/14. It shows price at the bottom before shipping and tax which made the total near $4,300 USD:

Be glad you didn't order the backpack. 2weeks seems about average you may get it earlier.
-
I put everything I had into getting the most in the machine, and I will order the extras like the backpack, more ram and another ssd drive. I will do some gaming in the meantime on my old rig so I will appreciate the new one more when it does come.
Hang in there Izekael, and you can always use a baby carrier
, I think that's what I will have to do as well lol. So here we sit waiting, I really do think it has extended my time on earth:thumbsup:
-
EDD Of 14th of March still sat in pre production that normal ? getting antsy now i want my baby !
-
steviejones133 Notebook Nobel Laureate
Yeah, I'd say that's still normal. Once it's shipped, it only takes a few days to arrive - I'm sure you will be "on time" or maybe before even..... -
Mine went to production yesterday, after the verification of specs and payment. Pretty quick really considering I ordered it just before the weekend. I even paid the overnight shipping..
-
Well Dell ninja'ed my backpack out this morning lol... it had an EDD of the 4th of April and it is currently sat in a TNT truck somewhere in London ! If they do that with my machine I'll be a happy chap
-

Cool stuff, Brother Garry! - it seems that, sometimes, EMEA order EDD's and stocking levels/dispatch of accessories are different from US/Canada. Good news for you though! -
So, what's been the experiences so far, US customers? I have a projected delivery date of the 12th of March, was wondering if I should actually expect that or if I should prepare for a delay...
Have folks been getting their orders on the promised date, for the most part? -
It was pretty off Brother Steve .. no notice just got a receipt this morning in my email and bam its out for delivery lol
-
I received my beast early, but the backpack is back ordered for 3-6 weeks. I have a everki beacon I am using from my g73 at the moment.
-
I`m eagerly awaiting pics from your end
-
Ordered my black R2 on Feb 27th.
i7 3940xm
680m Sli
Order went into production same night and has been in production since. I have a EDD of 03/13/13 hoping there is no unforseen delays! -
Yep, we're in the same boat - my scheduled delivery is the 12th... Now for a week or so of continually checking for status updates!
-
Well I used the online chat tool to check on the order and got upgraded to NBD shipping so my EDD is now 03/12/13 Was also told that as far as they are aware the is no order delays and that I might get mine before the EDD no guarantees though!
Now on to more reading .... -
Checked my order tracking page after i got into work .. It has gone into production ! EDD is Thursday the 14th hoping i get it a few days early
-
Talked to them today about my status, wanting to see if it's still on schedule, and it is. Just for fun I also asked to be upgraded to next-day business (after all, it's a pretty hefty order!) but they said no - they said "Unfortunately, this is beyond upgrade now as order is in the final stages of production."
I don't think I buy this - after all, it hasn't shipped yet, so changing the shipping should be possible - but they did say it was in the final stages and would be shipping 'soon', so I guess I'll be satisfied...
As a wise man once said, the waiting is the hardest part! -
Well maybe I just got lucky ... I have also been checking fedex tracking by reference (order #) but so far has not been found .... So guess they will be shipping it out Monday and should have it Tuesday. I got all my parts in including the blue ray burner so excited to tear it down and get it up and running... Just a weekend away
-
Next week seems so far off.. lol
-
When you're waiting for a beast to arrive, hours seem like days, and days like weeks. It's painful how slow time passes while waiting.
-
I just got an email from dell saying my system has shipped.. on a sunday even. The delivery date remains 3/14 and i did pay for overnight delivery so maybe it will come early.
-
If North Korea messes up my delivery by starting something tomorrow, I will be in favor of nuking them....
From orbit, it's the only way to be sure... -
Mine still lists in production... with a EDD of 03/12/13 so hopefully it ships tomorrow!
-
Yeah I got the email today but the status on the website wont change till business tomorrow. Hope yours comes quickly.
-
I hope it comes as planed ... lol as well as yours is seems there is quite a few with orders coming in this week... I never got the email so hoping when I get up for work in the morning I have something good to read..
-
Just checked my order status , Shipped and somewhere in China ! excited
Can't wait to get started on messing with it ... I feel a bout of the Flu coming on
-
steviejones133 Notebook Nobel Laureate
Nice! - it'll only take a couple of days, I reckon you should get it maybe the day before EDD with a bit of luck.... -
What time does dell usually ship ? (I'm in NE Ohio) I have not got a email yet nor has my status page changed (In production EDD 03/12/13). Just wondering hope I'm not staying home tomorrow for nothing lol
Called dell told not to worry should be here tommorow but no guarantees .. Was too they were waiting on the factory to send the shipping notice.. It around 6pm with no call back from dell along with no shipping notice. Still says in production with the edd for tommrow.
Anyone ever get one on the edd without a shipping notice? (Not found at fedex reference track via order number ether)
Well here's to hoping that I didn't waste a vacation day lol -
Excellent, let us know!
