This is awesome, congrats Mr Fox!
I don't understand how your BUS is at 104.5 mine is limited at 103.9.
As for your GPUs... holy molly, what is your voltage!?

Thanks for the compliment, Cygoris. Each system is different. My previous M18x could run BCLK @ 106MHz fine. I am only running the standard 0.92v on the video cards, nothing special there. I was not able run Dell's under-volted 0.87v setup above about 750/1500/1600 at the most without it becoming unstable.

Have you guys already seen this amazing demo?

Yeah, I don't think I have seen anything quite like that Unreal 3 Engine Samaritan demo before. Pretty sweet... too bad it's not a playable game. It sure does a nice job of showing of the Unreal 3 engine's capabilities.

I like these two as well. In 1080p it gets the GPUs running in P0, LOL.

Just as soon s I have something worth posting. I've pushed as far as I can on the stock A05 BIOS now and feel I'm at the 'everyday use' limit now.

Latest results are in my sig.

To be honest, I'm starting to doubt 3D Mark as an accurate real world testing platform. Games look and perform so much better on the 580M than they did on the 6990M system, yet I have to push the 580M system way harder to get similar numbers. I'm beginning to question the point of it all. lol.

It's just like my car. I reached the point at which the car was as fast as it could possibly as a daily driver without sacrificing comfort and reliability, then stopped. I'm starting to wonder if I will ever actually need to do 0-100 in 4.0 seconds now though. lol. Maybe I'm getting old.

I just remember 8 years ago when I was overclocking my Pentium 4 3.2C system and soldering all kinds of mods onto the motherboard, etc. The thing was a beast (5GHz stable on air cooling), but I spent more time monitoring temperatures than actually enjoying playing games.

LOL. I had a feeling you might not be impressed :p

I'm sure i could nudge 8000/30000 if I were to spend a few hours really fine tuning it, but I'm a newlywed and divorce is expensive. My wife already thinks I have a thing for Jane Nash.

Jane is a pretty nice looking binary representation of womanhood.

You're absolutely right about how games look and perform so much better with the 580M's than they do with 6990M. It's pretty amazing.

Since you have two, you should let your wife have the red M18x and you keep the green, and teach her how to bench. Then you can spend quality time together. You'll have her hooked on the sport in no time.

    LMAO!!!!!!!!!!

Unfortunately the AMD system is no longer in my possession. It got picked up by Dell today. She has my 2009 unibody Macbook Pro now so she's happy.

What's wrong John? Everything seems to be running fine to me!

Nah. You haven't seen fine yet. Not until Brother John helps define what that means for you. :notworthy:

Seriously, he can help you tame that alien beast and harness every scrap of power from its anodized bobo humanly possible. I think you'll be pushing 8k 3DMark11 and 30k Vantage right away.

I was getting as good benchmarks from my old 6990M CrossFire and currently am with 580M SLI with only a 2760QM CPU, so you know you're not getting near enough out of the expensive XM proc. Can't have all that horsepower going to waste, brother W. :)

Ahh yes. I know that my CPU is scaling and that's what's stopping me getting 0ver 30k, but it's already running as hot as I dare let it go at its current settings.

Unless you think an extra 500+MHz and supporting VCORE increase won't make it run any hotter, which I highly doubt.

It gets up to 92C under 100% load with the stock Level 3 overclock and scales to 3.5GHz under 100% load even if I set all multipliers to 40X in the BIOS.

The fact of the matter is that my CPU never goes over 50% load even when playing the latest games, so I don't see the real world need to push it any harder.

What kinda temps are you seeing in ambient conditions (20-30C) at those overclock levels John?

Looks like you already sold yourself on the lessor. And your right, no need to go any higher if you're content right there for real world performance. :).

For real world performance I lock mine @2.7Ghz and never go above 60C with the fans @30%, lol. Even that is an overkill for most real life situations. Thinking to lock it at 800mhz, hehe.

About 80C to 85C degrees or so.
But I real world my laptop with c1e enabled and eist enabled and all the other intel power saving features on. Since im not trying to run anything on all 8 threads 100 percent of the time...I can run high clocks. And if i need higher..My laptop cooler is one of the best made. :D

You will need a dual pipe heat sink. Mandatory.
    A few things though...
    Shaden is in Canada
ES versions are not 25x multipliers only QS and OEM's are.
    ES are 2400/3400Mhz

So im not exactly sure what you just bought...If it's a 25x cpu, then it's the high end qs version....

Yep going to grab one from Dell before I install it.

Edit: I'm pretty sure I got the 2.4 GHz version and he just incorrectly listed it. The seller has good feedback so either way it doesn't matter which version it is to me, especially for the price. Good thing is its an eBay purchase so I can get a refund if its DOA or something. If it works, I'll sell my 2760qm for $400 and end up ahead lol. Oh yeah, he lists it as Q0PT which I can't find except on some Chinese site.

John, Just swapped my heatsink with the new one. I was able to run a full wPrime 1024 run with 100W TDP no throttling at all. Constant 3.3GHz and +75mV. At least I think it was 3.3GHz. Don't think it can reach 25X on all cores. Whatever it was it was nice to have ZERO heat issues. :D

Haha it's up now, I had to remove the original pic since it was HUGE. Btw, was it you or someone else that said the dual pipe fins are actually aluminum just painted to look like copper? Because when I feel them, they don't feel the same as the aluminum fins of the single pipe.

We were talking about the gpu fins. The cpu fins are perfect for the most part.
I ran an ES on that single pipe and it was pure murder. I couldn't do anything.

Oh ok gotcha. ES didn't fare well even at stock with the single pipe? Well you know, I have two single pipes now so I was thinking of modding one of them into a dual pipe. All I'd have to do is desolder one pipe and put it on the other.

I was going to take the aluminum fins off and stack those on the pipes but figured it would probably do more harm than good. Back when I still had an Asus G53, me and a few guys on that forum used copper sinks + blow holes to enhance the abysmal cooling of that notebook. It was a lot of fun to do now that I think about it.

Sound like it would work actually ...

Although I think a more interesting project would be to replace the aluminum fins on one of the GPU heatsinks and see what the difference is like ...

Finally, I have a score that I'm not ashamed of:

Compared to the scores of most of you guys I know it's average, but it took me a few hours to get there and I think this is the best I can get out of my system without an XM CPU.

I tried to run all these programs during the test but my score went down from 7625 to 7604 points, 21 points for pete sake. :D
I don't know why but CPU-Z thinks my CPU is Extreme, but it's only a 2860qm.

Anyway, let me know if this is appropriate:

Edit: this is very small... sorry

Thanks mate, voltage was 0.92v and the clocks: 800/900/1600
My M18x becomes unstable if I go higher.
