Lol agreed.
I joined the forum due to an issue with my Inspiron 1720 (gave to my bro). But started reading about the Alienware laptops and was fascinated by its power flexibility and looks. The crowd, amount of activity and knowledge here is a main reason why I got an Alienware M17x R1. It was also when i was leaving for a year long contract in Iraq. From work i spent hours reading and benching. That's when my post count really took off.Had been a member for 7-8 months with less than 40 posts till I really started posting.

Nice nice, I actually replaced my custom 1720 with this m18x R1
and I am giving the 1720 to my bro
lol -
Nice. My 1720 had the black lid and silver base. I replaced the silver keyboard with a black one so it looked good. Has a 256GB ssd, 500GB hdd, T9500 2.6ghz dual core, 8600m GT, Win 7 Pro, and 1900x1200. Still going strong with no end in sight
bought in June of 07.

Man....you even got a pimp phone too....lol
I only have a lowly HTC Thunderbolt.... -
Haha. Yea. I love my tech toys. Wife calls me a dork
The AMOLED screen was the selling pt for me lol I know it was a few months older when I bought it (Samsung Captivated released July 2010, I bought around March 2011 I think) but it was to purty a screen to resist.
Before that i was rocking an LG CU500 for 4.5 years or so. Pimping when I got it. Earned me the nickname gramps 4.5 years later lol. Decided since it would shut off randomly several times a day to replace it since i was job searching. Reminds me, still need to take numbers off it. T-Z didn't fit on the sim card when AT&T transferred them over...

I was actually referring to Shaden's GS2
I am confident my Thunderbolt can take any GS phone out there
(that is right......I bench my phone too!) -
Haha I was wondering lol. Mine is significantly older lol. I see what happened now, looking at the time stamps.
I've benched mine, nothing impressive. Once i get my system back Im thinking of backing it up, rooting, and overclocking it. Just for giggles. Furmark should make a driod bench program. -

I can bench my phone at 1.8 GHz
-
LOL the GS2 is the sickest phone on the market, no doubt. I REALLY want to bench it if thats possible ... Dual Core 1.2 GHz. Crap its faster then many many notebooks. And it rips all the tablets to peices ... my buddy is all pissed about his Xoom Tablet, cuz my phone kicks its A@@ ...
I have a PSX Emulator on it ... can play all my fav PS and PS2 games on it. FF 7-9 ...
And the 1080p video recording is fricken awesome. Have some great vids from the last couple weekends of Wakeboarding.
The GS3 is supposed to have Dual core 2.0 GHz Q1 or Q2 2012 ... -
What do you use to bench a phoen !?
-
Lol, nice! what's the default cpu clock? Mines just 1ghz. Not sure what it'll hit. Afraid to see the battery life lol. Ill try it sometime though see what i can get it to.

Well we all know what a joke tegra 2 is for performance.....
Back to benching though, what are the opinions on me running 6990m's with A00? I am probably one of the only people here doing it, think A02 has some compatibility enhancements? -

Vellamo
NeoCore
Linpack for Android
Quadrant
Speed Test
Benchmark Pi
There are others but those are what I have
I have LTE and a 4.3" screen....what battery life? -
I can't compare because I switched from my 6970s to my 6990s when I went from 00 to 02 ... but Aikimox said there was a nice drop in temps overall with 02.
-

Good enough for me then, Ill flash A02 now.
-
Two of my kids have Galaxy phones and they're awesome. One of them was an iPoot fan, but his crApple days are over.
-
and sick I just found a flash to OC the Galaxy s2 to Dual core 1.5 GHz

Has anyone had any luck creating a custom xmp profile in the bios? I'd love to tighten my timings, but either the bios is bugged, or the PnP HyperX doesn't like to be messed with.
Are there any third-party programs that would allow me to mess with memory timings inside windows? -
Why not A03? It's working fine for me.How are so many of you guys ending up upgraded to 6990s when you started out with 6970s? Feel free to send me a PM if that works better.

Just call dellienware and complain enough about the 6970m xfire causing your aero to bug out. I've got 580m SLI on the way as a free replacement. -
OH WOW!
I'll keep that in mind lol!
Cheers.

Me???
I did a 32m run whilst watching my Intel TBT monitor gadget
(and mulitpliers in cpu-z which stayed at x38) and it boosted to 3.8ghz (bclk stock 99.80 with 45/42/38/38) and stayed there until the test finished some 10 seconds later.....
(Were you looking to see if the LPM Reg. Fix for SSD's disabled turbo boost? - I recall reading the M4 SSD thread, with the LPM fix, that someone thought it did but my system seems to be boosting just fine with the fix applied, if thats what you were looking for John) -
Can somone with a Killowatt tell me how many watts the M18x is drawing? Perferably with a 2920XM. I know I've seen as high as 285w+ on my M17x R2 with 6970s/920XM.
Given that the R2 and 18x both have 55w CPU's and approximately 100W GPUs (R2/6970), I'm thinking it may be in the same ball park. Unless the 18x has some big powerdraw gadget. Taking Throttle Stop into account , the 920XM is probably capable of drawing the same amount of power as the 2920XM or more. I know I've seen the CPU pull 110W by it's self (according the HWInfo).
Reason I'm asking is I just purchased a second 240w PSU to run in parallel for benching with the 6970's. Assuming it works it should avoid PSU trips/issues, but I curious to see where the system power draw may max out at. My only concern would be frying the mobo, which wouldn't bother me to much, I'z haz woranty! J/K My actual concern is frying the 6970's. That would be expensive since they are aftermarket. -
Hey all ... ok so pushing my cards again in 3dmark 11 ... and they are crashing out at the same clocks (865/1175) ...

Shaden, its a video driver bsod as your gppu's are crashing because the clocks are too high...you might have got away with maybe a run or two at the higher clocks but each run will be different....maybe its warmer, maybe other processes going on that werent before....etc etc....can you run at, say, 850/1150 without error??
-
Download and install WhoCrashed and you'll find more useful information to review.
My guess is you're pushing them too hard and/or one of the cards may be overheating. Uncheck the box in Trixx to synchronize the clocks on both cards, slow down the secondary card and you'll likely find the same thing I did. My GPU1 cannot keep up with GPU0 and trying to run them both at the same high speed causes the BSOD. My GPU1 runs about 5-10°C hotter under heavy load than GPU0. I ordered a tube of ICD24 last night to re-paste and see if that helps. (I've not repasted mine and there seems to be a trend of them not being properly pasted from the factory.) Running GPU0 at 850/1100 and GPU1 at 820/1090, I'm achieving my highest benchmark scores and no BSOD. If I sync them at 850/1100, crash city. If I sync them at 820/1100 there are no BSOD issues, but lower benchmark scores. GPU1 cannot run over 820/1100 on my system. -
I figured thats what it was, is there soemthing that indicates its a V-card error ?
and I can run at 860 1175 ... just not 865/1175 ... and I have tried multiple times... really weird, nothing has really changed. And I got a few runs off at 865/1175.... -
As I mentioned above, unsync them and I think you may find a better result. WhoCrashed will describe in plain language what the BSOD is being caused by, and I am fairly confident you'll find it to be a video driver. On my system, atikmpag.sys is the booger that crashes.

Theres nothing wrong - your cards have just reached their OC limits, thats all. Everyone hits the wall sooner or later hence your BSOD. I think you got lucky getting a completed run at 865/1175....those are some majorly OC'd clocks and im actually suprised they didnt BSOD on you at lower clocks.....you DO have some nice cards though for OC ability!
The BCCode generally points to what the error is related to - BCCode 117 - google it and there you go - video card error! -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
I had a friend help me with it. I am not sharing who for privacy reasons.
Fantastic idea....never even thought of that. Maybe I will do that as well to get the new cards covered under warranty
-
nah. but i did re-install my windows under raid and it seems to be running fine with the firmware update.
mine was pulling in around 330 with what i was doing. but ill have a better look at it later today. -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
If I run the PSU test from OCCT I get right upto 330W in my M18x
During 3DMark11 though never topped 280W I believe -
a watt topper is going to be vantage
-
Speedy Gonzalez Xtreme Notebook Speeder!
Even more a game benchmark like mafia 2 or crysis
-
has anyone benched with 580m sli yet?
-
yea but theres this issue that the cards are being throttled so no top scores are exciting. sager forums will have the best scores.
-
what throttle issues, exactly? what about benchmarks with real games? i would be interestated in crysis runs and metro 2033
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
Actually....according to my findings with my M17x R1 which I benched and monitored religiously 06 was the worst offender on power use. Followed by 03 and 05. Vantage would hit the stutter threshold but not as often as those other 2.
I know that Crysis is also a huge power hog overall -
steviejones133 Notebook Nobel Laureate
Wow. Amazing score there John. That will take some beating I imagine....
-
what 3dmark settings you guys run them at?
-
trying to get my gpu score back up to 8800+ now.

-
what do you mean?
we use the same settings everyone elses uses...everything to the left in ccc.
yeah it is...got my new heat sink today so things are looking up..
-
When did you hit 8800 gpu ?
-
Were you benching on a single pipe? What about for the 8400? Was that the new hs?
-
i am new to ATI cards so not sure. by default mine are all on the left as well but what is catalyst AI? there is the surface texture quality in there and it is set to quality and a checkbox in the surface format optimization.
-
steviejones133 Notebook Nobel Laureate
I think what John means is that for benching, uncheck ALL the boxes in CCC and set ALL sliders over to the left (under 3d application settings)....this will give you best bench figures....I doubt you are all the way over to the left by default......(your "options" may be on the left of the CCC screen but thats not quite the same as "adjusting" all the options under 3d to the left, if you get my drift??) -
