Do not write off the OEM, I just have not done any of these BIOS mods yet.

Once I get up the enthusiasm, I expect to be up there :D

*Scook I am defending the OEM for us! FTW :)
Over 30k vantage cpu, over 10k physics(cpu) on 3dmark2011 and 8t 1024m wprime under 171secs. I'll show pics and links tonight. No dice, no ac, laptop completely entact only missing battery (would hate to hurt it benching). :) And a pic of 2920xm 8t at 100% load at 4.7 GHz for a moment in throttlestop. :) OEM from Dell.

    Can I say Touche’? ;)

    Thanks John...

I know but sadly there is no difference between ES and OEM other than the price both can be pushed insanely :D

Question Why I can complete half of the first vantage gpu bench @900-1150 but it crashes temps are fine ?

I am sure its just how the benches push the GPUs but its also weird how you can push higher clocks in vantage then in 3dmark11

What you can do to help that is disable ec sensor readings inside the sensor window itself not in the preferences of hwinfo like fan speed and hide them and close the alienware services for your runs, that can help with the lockups.

ouch! no way i would wait that long!
i put that call in yesterday. it should be fixed by Wednesday, since today was a holiday.

    side note:
i don't know why people have trouble with the dell reps. both times they have been great with me. and i have a time frame to turn in my laptop for a brand new one with the 2960xm. provided it goes on sale with in the next 3 weeks.

Well I have started playing with this bios stuff :D

Very neat although it will pretty much make having extreme CPU cooling mandatory as the temps get sick fast.

Any tips/tricks for me that may save me time?

    Hey Shaden,

I had a stock Vantage run I did last time.
Your probably after the 2920 CPU one though. :p

This is a stock stock score. Dell drivers and like 1st day after unboxing. No CCC settings changed. All stock.

    Cheers. :)

Happy to do it. What exactly do you want? Only my CPU is OCd. Cards and memory are stock clock.

3d mark or pc mark vantage ?

    Thats exactly what I want ! :)

OC'd CPU stock clocks on GPUs.

Vantage would be great, and any other benches you can run. But don't go too far out of your way, just a few would be great.

    THanks Drifter !

Hey, can someone point me to the latest nvidia drivers? I can't find the modded 280.26. Something's wrong with search, no matter what I change I keep getting the same results for posts from 2010 or threads from march. Thanks in advance.

How are you controlling your fans? And is that fans + AC or JUST fans?

What values are you using for TDP, throttle/shut down temperatures, and currents?

I was running a Vantage CPU test to see if my settings were making a difference and the performance was definitely higher - right up to when the laptop shut down from what I assume is CPU overheating.

Really need to get back to the freezer or find an AC unit to use.....

Those are exactly what I had tried. And that is sitting on the Cryo with the bottom cover off. Cryo fans maxed and presumably laptop fans maxed according to bios settings I made. I am pretty certain that I was getting to that 110c and shutting down immediately. I also have the Cryo propped so that the top of the Cryo is parallel to the table, gives those fans some more intake as well.

So John, you are just maxing fans in HWInfo and not using the bios stuff at all? It is not causing any instability since you have the Compal EC disabled?

I will have to play with this more

DR650SE, I know I am a little late to this game but with this 2920xm I am seeing what all your M17x r2 owners were talking about with your cpu overclock being severely heat limited haha

I can get this thing up to 100c in no time at which it takes the liberty of shutting itself down :D

Rock solid right up to that shut down point though as far as I can tell

Working on dialing in the settings that will keep me under 100c for 30 seconds haha
