seems like vantage just loves youno matter, which GPU clocks i set 750/1700 or 830/1850 i still get the sam 25.7k GPU score, it severely bounces between P0/P1 states, grrrr... i'm probably the unluckiest 580M SLI bencher in the world
![]()
hey, btw you didn't get system lockups with such a high GPU clocks? and whos meter was the correct one: yours or xeneize's?
edit: what's the version of your unlocked M18x bios, john? that might be the clue...
-
it loves everyone...you just have to find your spot...
as to your clocks...your cpu is running to slow...you wont gain till you can speed that up..vantage needs to be ran about about 4.5 ghz(when running dual gpus)
the bounce is becuase your cpu is falling far behind your gpus...if that was an extreme...you would be up here with me.(and it just just barely stutter for a second...if it's doing it long than that...problems..
)
xen's was closer..but my other two reported 360 tops, but mainly stayed even with his.
what we learned from all this so far...these gpus can handle no throttle! if given the space they need to run at. -
Lol! wow man... Congratz brother! You;re just slapping the records left and right!
-
You Have inspired me John
I'm am doing a happy dance as I type!
Now I really need a repaste on my CPU if I ever wan't to hit 31k. -
An example of pure awesomeness....
-
electrosoft Perpetualist Matrixist
Yeah, these results are pretty righteous.....wow.
-
and a re-paste on the gpu probably wont hurt either
thanks my friend
really wish you we're on board...need to prove the amd can hit 30k...
-
hahah well, I can only do that as standalone CPU test, for some reason in a full test i can't even hit 30k....however my CPU has the overhead to hit 31k so at this point having ruled out power, it's a matter of better pasting.
I may even get the 2960 but I'm afraid to turn this CPU in for a lemmon.... I think i got a great 2920 so far. -
yeah...always that possibility...sam can't go above 45x and we can boot 48X with no problems...
i think tomorrow ill start going higher...now that i know im stable at 48x -
yeah i can boot 48x but can't do anything lol, working on the repasting strategy now
-
yeah, but i can't set multipliers higher than 48x either.
-
John did you ever boot es chip higher then 45x ?
-
He had it at 47x if I remember correctly.
-
not sure...it might have been 45x plus 1.05 blck...ill look.
edit:
looking over these earlier scores..because i didn't force the max clock in screen shots...it's really hard to tell.
but i grabbed a 5.2 second wprime 1.55
so that means i was about 4600 or 4800 mhz during that run.
this run may have been done at 47x

I've posted a 4.9~ 32m 8thread run in this thread you can reference... go up from there... it was a very fast run...
4.925ghz 8threads 5.176seconds
http://i1237.photobucket.com/albums...747471048bclk4927mhz25flex135amps112watts.png -
Yeah its going to need real cooling to test my wprime max nice run at 4.83ghz on 32m
-
real cooling huh?
that's dice/ss/cass/ln2/lhe
anything else is not real cooling.
(let me rephrase that...extreme cooling that is)
but i do see the watts i didnt see with the es though -
Hi, Good Night!
I have read a lot regarding SSD here and in many other places and, the more I tried to understand, more confused I got...
I recently bought a Alienware M18x, but, fully aware that its weakness was the hard drive and that the SSD's offered by Dell wasn't the best choice, I ordered it with 1.5TB RAID 0 (2x 750GB) 7200RPM SATA 3Gb/s R015TB with the intention to replace the main one for a really good SSD and keep the secondary one for Storage purposes. What i did miss out was to research about its dificulties while installing and configuring.
I was thinking about the following options:
Intel 510 Series SSDSC2MH250A2K5 2.5" 250GB SATA III Solid State Drive
OCZ Vertex 3 Series VTX3-25SAT3-240G 2.5" 240GB SATA III Solid State Drive
I would like to know if it is possible to do this, if the options mentioned above are the best and if this would worth the cost and complication. I also have no clue if this would mess with the laptop warranty.
I basically have no knowledge on this kind of modifications and configurations and I have no clue what to do... I would need some sort of guide...
Laptop Configuration:
Processor: Intel® Core i7 2960XM 2.7GHz (3.7GHz withTurbo Boost, 8MB Cache) 2960XM
Memory: 16GB Dual Channel DDR3 at 1600MHz (4DIMMS) 16G4D16
Video Card: Dual 2GB GDDR5 AMD Radeon HD 6990M AMD CrossFireX HD 6990M
Hard Drive: 1.5TB RAID 0 (2x 750GB) 7200RPM SATA 3Gb/s R015TB
Operating System: Genuine Window s® 7 Ultimate, 64bit AW71U6E
Thanks in advance! -
Incredible Job John!! wow man!, broke 30, 31 and now 32 on Vantage!
-
yeah man...and i seriously need to go to bed...lol
-
wow you are still up?? lol you are truly hardcore my friend!
-
just trying to get this last run in...been saying that for the last hour or so now...
i completely crushed the clevo for the time being....wonder what dell is going to say about that...
-
Yeah with a mobile CPU lol they should sponsor you! you took their AW to the top! Imagine if we didn't have throttling *cough* *cough* lol
By the way... I know you don't care but +++ REP!! this is amazing man. I bet you're in love with the setup now
-
So are the Clevos running with PhysX on? Nice scores john! That's pretty wild for a mobile platform. I'd rep you, but I need to spread the magic a little more. I think you forgot the mainboard tab in one of those CPU-Z apps. Propbably because you need some rest
-
Dang, Imagine what you could do if you could force off teselation. Probably in the ballpark of 8600-8700. Is there any way for CCC to be installed on an nvidia based system? Has anyone ever even tried? Don't install the display drivers, just CCC. Who knows, it could happen.
-
If he could force of tesellation he would be over 10k..... no doubt.
CCC won't work with these cards anyhow.
-
Great work!! hmmm it seems very quiet in here at the moment!
Surely this cant be on standard cooling Johnksss!!
Could you please post a picture of your set up running these benchies (or even laid on what ever bench fridge you have it in/on) , I need to see what this looks like for my ****** purposes, which im sure will shock a few ppl here
u TOO Xeneize NICE JOB!
Oh btw!!! looks like us m18x rev 1 users cant update to the new 2960xm cpu as it needs a new motherboard so i was told from dell.
+rep outstanding to say the least!!! Great job again!!! -
Thx Bar, but I don't think you actually need a new mobo for the 2960, at least that's not the info I got... perhaps Bill can confirm?
-
I thought so as well, until i rang up today to see how much dell would sell one to me for and when he checked my service tag number he said nope sorry you need a new board to support this cpu. The best i can put in its place was the 2920xm only.
Yes we can ask Bill to confirm, you know how it is sometimes with these dell technical ppl!! -
Yea, I'm sure they said the same thing for the 920XM/940XM. Those guys don't know anything
-
My M18x is Rev1, purchased a few days after release and it works with the 2960 no problem
All you need is the latest BIOS.
-
That's what I thought, thanks for confirming Aiki.
I can also confirm that it's 100% compatible....I got a 2960 on it's way !!! Wohoo
By the way how are the benchmarks going? -
yeah, sorry to bust your bubble and all but no...no extreme cooling. only using cold air. the laptop is fully together with dell stock paste.
it would seem that these 580M's were not really being pushed before, but now they are. 90 to 95 percent of this stuff can be ran with just max fans.
-
Yeah was hard to push with the state they were before these mods came into place! Now if we can get Dell to certify them
By the way, please tell me you at least took a nap lol -
yeah, i did.
but people started calling at 9 am in the morning. i told them it was a late night session and they said call back when you get up. it's great when your clients understand what benching is...
-
loool!!!
-
Hahaha, thats awesome, +1
-
one of them even helped me understand my phase change unit. including rebuilding and gasing it. great bunch of guys there!
-
Very amazing runs John those 580m's are beasts. I don't get the vantage 60k cpu scores how does that happen... but congrats on the 33k vantage amazing. Yes extreme cooling lol which i'll never use either.. no dice etc... most i will use is cold air.... too. almost all my runs aren't even on cold air for that matter... very nice work John.
-
Those CPU scores are with the help of Nvidia PhysX on. The GPU's assist the CPU in CPU test 2. I bet that test was flying. Beats the 28op/sec I get. That thing is cooking at 200+ op/sec
-
amazing score John, I thought you were using extra cooling all this time. all these high scores just running on air, very nice
-
thanks! seems my es was holding me back quite a bit.
this round my laptop is fully together with stock paste.
the 71k cpu score is for competing against the clevo 7200 laptop which was holding the top over all score on 3dmark.com at 36.9k over all..which is now held by an alienware at 38.2k
how one cools their machine is a choice. that's how i see it...their are no cooling rules in benching. and this isn't the quality bench mark thread...it's just benching.
yeah, those fps are flying when physx is turned on..
no these new ones or surely running on cold air. im not about to be stressing my parts at 95c - 100C temps for no reason...
. and since the laptop can bench without being taken apart or removing the bottom cover..all the better i say!
temps are about 88C below the 90C mark. so no need to set throttle in the bios....
-
That's what I wanted to see, thanks for confirming
What's your room temp?
Awesome scores BTW! -
thanks!
right now...88F -
Out of curiosity can you check the HS if its a dual or triple ?
