Totally agree with Brother papusan on this... great advice. Liquid Ultra is the only way to fly, but especially where Haswell is concerned. If you are overclocking, NT-H1 is junk in my opinion.

Thanks for link, the only one problem is the application of liquid metal ultra is not like a normal paste but I try

i was concerned as well the first time i used it, but just watch an instructional video (tons of them around when you google them), and be carefull and you should be fine. the difference to the thermal "pastes" is overwhelming. i would never go back.

If you look at the photos in the link I provided, it shows how to apply it for best results. I also demonstrated it in a video on my YouTube channel.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 675M video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-3920XM Processor Extreme Edition,Alienware M18xR2

within the results of my current config (3920xm, 675 sli) there were only two results ahead of mine, ones that are non accepted results since a gpu was dedicated to physixs. with my last result i beat one of those two, making me 2nd place behind a non accepted one and 1st place of the accepted, counting results :) cool, still can't wait until i got the money to upgrade the two outdated gpus :)

In case anyone wants to see what their M18xR2 or Alienware 18 is capable of with a single AC adapter and no tinkering with CPU clock profiles using ThrottleStop (just click and run), this seems to be about the circuit-breaker trip point for 3920XM CPU and 780M SLI GPU overclocking limits. I will try the same settings on the Alienware 18 in a day or two to see if that holds true with 4930MX and 780M SLI as well. This is also no AC cooling, just maxed out fans and Liquid Ultra thermal paste... 86°C CPU core max and 71°C GPU max, so this should be well within anyone's reach with one of these beasts.

To be honest, one can play without even overclocking.
Run staggered cores and max fans and get the most out of a system. I just finished playing Bioshock Infinite upscaled to 1440P and maxed out settings and the game ran pretty decent on stock cpu and gpu clocks.

That's very impressive brother Fox! More so because you also have a healthy GPU OC too. I seem to run out of juice at those kinds of clocks. Mainly at a certain point in test 1 is where things go wrong for me.

    Drumroll please...

Tada! I answered my own question. Nope. Haswell still sucks... pulls a massive 141W and leaves nothing left for 780M SLI to work with using a wimpy 330W AC adapter. Just a stinkin' gamer-boy machine is all it will ever be. It will never be an bencher's delight. :( Actually, it does nice with CPU overclocking, so I should not blame it on Haswell any more. Alienware just messed up and under-engineered it so that it's crippled. Add two overclocked GPUs like 780M to the mix and it just rolls over and plays dead, like a little baby 'possum.

I haven't used it in so long, I just forgot how lame it is. It is not half as much fun as the M18xR2. And, that makes me extremely sad.

Efficiency is the all the laptop manufacturers, Intel and Nvidia are talking about. It is not everyone is as hung up on small laptops. What good is a new powerful hardware, if it is throttled down and be as energy efficient? The manufacturers Intel and Nvidia just talking about how long you can use your laptop on battery. They want that one can use hefty hardware to be available in a thin little laptop, What happens if you use the same hardware into a larger laptop? This is hopeless.

It's this everyone is talking about. http://www.hardware.no/artikler/forsteinntrykk-lenovo-yoga-3-pro/164314 I think they should think more about those who keep sales up to the producers (there are the pc players)

Any 980M SLI benches out there? I figured Johnkss would've picked these up already. I heard 18k GPU Firestrike on factory clocks, that's pretty amazing. Is this possible with the 330W PSU?

How is this even possible? 80% of GTX 980 performance, double the VRAM, and 680M power consumption? What are we talking 100W TDP here? GTX 980 is 171 TDP so one would assume 80% of that given a direct power-performance correlation.

Nvidia GeForce GTX 970 and 980 reference review - Hardware Setup | Power Consumption

Im seriously thinking about picking a pair of these up, even at $2k. The performance is absolutely mind-boggling, I have no idea how they managed 80% performance of GTX 980 while only consuming as much as 680M.

Holy crap, that sounds very impressive, any benches? Last 5960 Firestrike score I viewed had a Physics score over 20k at 4.5GHz. Hopefully DX12 becomes prevalent in 2015....

Hahaha, all goes well I may get back in. Waiting to hear from the bank on a short sale. If I get my own house and out of the apartment, I'll finally be able to have a decent desk. That's if the wife doesn't take it to sew or something lol.

I just need to get a desktop, and some old hardware, then I'll be able to unpack the old dice pot :D

Hahaha garage is all mine, however, in this potential townhouse (DC area) there is a nice loft in the master bedroom. A nice area for a man cave. She's already planning it for a place for a crib with the next baby. But I'll slowly take over and VETO any "good ideas" she thinks she has :p

I knew I shouldn't have looked... Dang it... I see what you did there, Brother John. You're trying to make me hate my M18xR2. (j/k... very impressive) :D

I sure hope we are not seeing a nasty trend with Micro$lop operating systems. I installed Windows 10 on the Alienware 18, and they are off to a rough start.

Look at this garbage... identical settings... seems like more of a CPU killer than Windows 8 has been...

3DMark Fire Strike: Windows 8.1.1 versus Windows 10

    3DMark Vantage: Windows 8.1.1 versus Windows 10

Under DX10 the new OS does not even recognize the 780Ms for some reason. Strange that it identifies the GPUs under DX11, but not DX10.

Plus, there is a lot of screen flashing, flickering and strange display artifacts running DX10.

I will post more results in a day or two, but wPrime and other CPU intensive testing is looking kind of ugly for Win 10... really begs the question if everyone at the Redmond campus is retarded. I get that it is a "preview" version, but they sure have a LOT of stuff that needs to be fixed before this will be RTM.

That's really impressive for only 1400Mhz (not sure about reference but apparently Gigabyte G1 Gaming can push 1.5GHz). How are the temps at this frequency? Do you plan to put the GPU's under water?

Batman Origins took the biggest hit. Do you think any of this will change when W10 actual arrives?

DX12 multi-threading will be a late Christmas present for all of us with more than 6+ cores! Right now only Crysis 3 actually gets my 4930 going....

storage performance is worse on win 10 tech preview as well compared to win8 which is inferior compared to win7. ms and intel, dropping performance at its best.

Yeah, I'm extremely unimpressed with the trend in operating systems and CPUs. The 5960X is an exception to the norm. Seems we are living in troubled times for technology. Form over function, bells and whistles before results, seem to be the order of the day. I guess that's what happens when little kids grow up in a world completely surrounded by stupid and simply age without maturing.

I see that all overclocking profiles that Dell has made to the bios (level-1 Oc in the bios) is the actual voltage screwed sky high. As this example (one i7-4700mq) in level-1 Oc in the bios is the actual voltage turned up to 1.243v on a 3,5ghz Overclock. Is not that better that they use xtu instead of this useless overclocking profile? What exactly are Dell's technicians are doing? This is totally behind the net. :nah:
