Is that the same thing that was released as a benchmark to make Mantle look exceptionally attractive? If not, it was something with a similar name.

Similar name brother Fox. I think that benchmark was Star Swarm or something like that.. it had me for a while too.

Yeah I'm hoping Star Citizen really shows em' how it's done.

Hey, anything that makes consoles look like the pieces of garbage that they truly are sounds good to me, LOL.

We've had the tail wagging the dog (console game ports to PC) for w-a-a-a-y-y-y-y too long.

Also...Playing Shadow of Mordor right now and it used every bit of 4gb vram. Mine locks at 4048 on both cards and stays there. This might be where a 8 GB card shines!

What did you need to do to get SLI working? I don't have that Shadow of Mordor game, but I understand multi-GPU does not work correctly. Sounds like it might be working well for you. Is it as easy as just setting AFR1 or AFR2? (Seems like people often forget about trying that.)

Yup, glad to see them not trying to consolize the game, its the direct opposite of nearly every other game, where its console first and then typically a poorly ported PC game (i.e. Titanfall, Watch Dogs, and now The Evil Within).

Star Citizen broke $11M in crowd-funding, it is the highest crowd-funded game in history.

Thanks T-Bone, I will look into that one.

Wait, is that an i7 4930 in an either an Alienware notebook? I'm terribly confused. More info please!

Just noticed youre running 4x 980 SLI in your sig......talk about total overkill. So youre presently like #3 in terms of desktop benchmark world records with 3x SLI correct?

Now that the vBIOS can be extracted, and hopefully tweaked and flashed back, it should be interesting to find out what the GTX 980M is truly capable of with more voltage, +135 cap removed, GPU Boost removed, Power and Temp target limits unlocked , etc. Enough with all of this silly Ultrabook crap, I am really interested what two of these bad boys can do in SLI with crap overclocked out of them when backed by a REAL unlimited/unlocked CPU in a system with good CPU cooling.

That one highlighted in red certainly sounds like something that needs to be killed by a vBIOS mod. Would be really nice to be able to hit between 1.5-2.0GHz stable on the core.

Looking forward to seeing how high these bad boys can be overclocked, and how far it can go with a single 330W AC adapter in SLI. If there is a major improvement in power draw, this might be just what doctor ordered for the Alienware 18 needs to not be so pathetic at GPU overclocking.

Then again, with a dual 330W adapter, overclocking performance might still be a lot more amazing with the M18xR2. A stable core overclock on a pair of them falling somewhere between 1.5 and 2.0GHz would be really sweet.

Hummm, that might be asking alot. 2ghz that is. :D With my DT cards, i can bench at just under 1.6 ghz boost, but then that is on air as well. And stock voltage. Now will it be a nice upgrade to the M18x? Im thinking yes!!! Should be able to max these out pretty quick since the tdp should be a tad bit lower. Now the AW18 is another matter, but should benefit from them.

Yeah, single AC adapter on the 18 with the Extreme CPU sucking down 140-150W is a real serious problem. It needed a factory dual adapter like Clevo had a lot more than the R2 does. There's just not very much power left to go around, even if the 980M TDP is a tad lower. It's a real shame they buggered up the motherboard so we can't just plug it in and go like the R2.

Click on Search, then the advanced tab, choose the benchmark and select the hardware you want to see. If nothing comes up, then there are no submissions on record for that benchmark and hardware combination filter. Try selecting a different benchmark test first. In the worst case scenario, select a slightly different CPU (4800MQ versus 4700MQ, 4930MX versus 4940MX, etc.) to find similar comparisons.

I'm topped out with 8501, the comparison 8808 score showed a big jump in GPU clock and a physical memory increase from 8 to 16gb.
although i cant see how the memory swap would make any difference.

I am getting a higher cpu score just i cant seem to match the balance between cpu and gpu..
when i over clock the gpu, i get a short boost then a sharp drop in clock.

ive check my temps and they never go over 60, just i noticed that gpu z reports a Util error, so im assuming this is a voltage cap issue.

3940xm and i leave it to level 1 OC in BIOS, because the temp is pretty high when benchmarking
the problem is although 780m(s) went through 3dmark (2013) smoothly, it often crash when i play games, sometime driver recovery (and clock revert to df), sometime entire system hang
is there anything do to fix it, the temp is okay i think (around 80-85 in high demand games like RYSE)?
    thank you

Did we really see a golden 3920/40xm sample? I have to say they are all pretty decent but just I'm wondering...
Id consider my xm on the average side at best. 4.7ghz with any real 24/7 stability is out of the question. 4.6ghz isn't a problem though. 4.8 + isn't even an option no matter how many volts I pump unless I'm going to be disabling HT/cores etc. which isn't going to haopen.

To understand the stability of m18x R2, we must understand how good the MOBO provide voltage efficiently without fluctuation to the CPU.
There is a limit of voltage m18x R2 MOBO can provide and it is 1.501v.

So unlike desktop 3770k, we have a limit by voltage, not to mention thermal throttle.
How far you can go with 1.501v is the max your CPU can be OCed in m18x R2 under decent cooling.
Probably the CPU can go further with higher voltage but not in m18x R2.

My 3940xm in m18x R2 can run anything (even linx and prime for all night) at 4.8 but with extra cooling.
However I do not want to use extra cooling and I even hate to use a simple cooling fan.
I only use "coolfeet" that I can carry anywhere with ease.
So I only OC 4.7 for everyday use 24/7 which is stable under 1.4v (1.38 something.)
I uses liquid pro (slightly better than liquid ultra) and I do some polishing for better surface contacts.

    View attachment 117356
    View attachment 117357

These are some example of how I polish the surface of heatsink. The pictures are showing 17R5's heatsink.
That helps alot because the angle of heatsink contact surface is not quite 0 degree or not flat.

Anyway 4.7 for me is no problem. Even XTU bench gives me only 87 degree celsius without any extra cooling but only with "coolfeet".
    This is coolfeet.

There are alot of more good information here and there around the world.
Those polishing isn't my original idea. It was someone else's in our Koran Alienware Forum where all the notebook enthusiasts are gathered just like here and TI.
    Tower of Babel... too sad.
Not many Koreans or Chinese or those from oriental speak or read/write Enlgish to give and take informations on web yet.

It was a great finish on these heatsink. :D How big is the difference in temperature, after you have sanded these heatsink? I use Liquid Ultra, which decrease of temperature can I achieve on cpu ?
    thank you

The temperature depends on CPU voltage. Can't say how much it decreases on general.
I was able to achieve this score at about 90 degree (at the end of XTU bench.)
I didn't use AW17 much though because of its turbo window time.

    godfafa`s XTU score: 1096 marks with a Core i7 4900MQ

You say That Helps alot Because the angle of heat sink contact surface is not quite 0 degree or not flat. ? Where on the heatsinks is the problem?

I use 1.215mv on my i7-4930mx and 4x42, with a score of 9.16 in Cinebench 11.5 and 171 sec under Wprime 1024. Normally, the temperature during the test 85- 88 degrees celsius. Do I have a chance and lowering the temperature with your mod?

Edit: I also wondered what you used to sanding heatsinks and (grain size). How is it and sanding the heatsink after I have used Liquid Ultra now in a long time?
    thank you

From my short experience of AW17, 1.215v isn't low voltage to handle with. I think you already have done pretty nice job.
And "the change", polishing would make will depends on how flat your heatsink is already.
