Yes, if the Clock Speeds are higher, the Optimus sync is better.
Maybe oc the igp will help, without oc the core to much.
And you should try to get your temp down. There are 2 throttle steps. First on 68 Degree ( Clocks are stabel, but Performance go down), second on 84 Degree ( Clocks go down).
Throttle temps depends on you Vbios.

It is not easy possible. The 1070 does not fit on slave side.

Please share details. What brand 980M, what vBIOS, are you using rgbled display or 2ccfl? Does native fan control work or do you have to use hwinfo? I have my M17x R2 still to make tests

You did it with 1060, Why can't you do 2 1070?

The 1060 has the same layout like 980m. So it fit on slave side.
The 1070 is different, so it won´t fit easy.

If you want more grafic power, it is better to use a p5200 or a rtx 5000.
Sli under Optimus is not worth it.

Yes, and so everything works, too, only with Optimus, and as for the P5200, it is weaker than 1070, but it's a pity you can not install GTX 1080 in Alienware 18..

There is not really a different between 1080 and p5200. Depends on used Vbios. ;)

Today i tried gaming with rtx.
Doom eternal was my choice, because of full raytracing support.
It was running nice, at highest Level. GPU temp at max 67 Degree.
But after an hour, i get flickering. Same like you oc the ram to much.
After checking all temps, i find the Problem.
It is the full Chopper heatsink. All the Chopper had the same temp. So the gpu was heating up the vrams.
I will try to mod a normal heatsink, to see if it is running better.

I went through Doom eternal completely at the maximum settings, the temperature is 1070 normal and no problems were detected in my system. Acceleration of the matrix to 100Hz synchronously with the map, absolute smoothness.

At the easter Weekend, i find some time to play with the handbrake named Optimus.
Gpu clocks goes up from 1215 to 1415. But its still a long away to the shown clocks 1875.
Maybe when the next long corona stay at home weekend comes, i will find some more mhz. ;)

And why don't you test the RTX5000 card on Alienware A18 in conjunction with 4940, maybe the tests will be more productive ?

    I don´t have a AW18 at the moment.
I´m not sure if it is more productive. The 4940 has a better grafik, but it is not an oc wonder. At the end, it is running slower.
Because of that, i sold my AW18 and rolled back to M18Xr2 ;).

Well, the ivy bridge chipset is older and slower on the motherboard than haswell, I think in the aggregate it can affect.

Stock, there may be a ~5-7% which the Ivy XMs are inferior to the Haswell MXs, thus not relevant. Also as far as irc the AW18 is limited by a few more factors, total power pull for example.
In the end, the M18x r2 was superior in most people's opinion, when directly compared.

Absolutely. M18xR2 was definitely the superior product on multiple counts. And, where Haswell is concerned, the 4940MX was generally terrible. The 4930MX overclocked much better. Even the 4900MQ was better than 4940MX. It's really sad that Intel's last mobile Extreme CPU was one of their worst products in terms of overclocking.

Oc’able Extreme Cpu with Sli graphics and paired with 330w single psu. Doomed to fail! Dell’s magic to stop fire and RMA/support costs due wimpy Power delivery.

Edit. Forgot to mention... I talk about AW18

I can't afford an RTX 5000 (unless I sell a few machines) but this is the best I can do with the 1070. Haven't tried the extreme benchmark yet.

CPU Limit is at 200W, max the board can handle is 108W. So for what should is use a dual PSU?
Dual PSU i only used for my P570WM with 1070Sli, to go over 900W.
The 240W is enough. I tried 330W, 660W and 780W. Makes no different.

Remember the old days when you used to help me overclock my 4940MX and no matter what we did it was just not wanting to be stable @ 4GHz stable? How time flies br0! PooPoosan used to overclock his 4930MX much higher.

Tried a firepro s7100x in my M18x R2 and got the usual beep bode indicating the card isn't bootable, could be vibios or that something changed between this release and the prior models. Basically an 8GB version of the well known firepro w7170m from HP.

You just need to flash unlocked bios for your laptop and switch it to SG mode because pascal cards have no support for lvds screen connection of your latop.

I also can't read Chinese which makes it very difficult. The read/write speeds are still way better than what I'm getting off the mSata on my machine, since I have no HDD ribbon cable. If I can fill the spare MXM slot and get a faster drive then its win-win.
The cost is pretty good too. It works out to be $72AUD which is about $50USD

If I can get one of those MXM to M.2 cards I will probably get rid of 780M SLI and get Quadro P5000 in slot one and NVMe slot 2. Final upgrade for the M18xR2 for me....maybe LOL
