meh... still seems a bit OTP. Laptops are designed to be traveled with. The only thing that's dangerous is if the laptop is ON while vibrating it. And everything is screwed down so I don't know what part(s) youre talking about :/. Trains, planes and cars all vibrate more heavily than a luggage carrier...

They are certainly designed for just that. Doesn't mean that subjecting a laptop to potential damage is a smart thing to do for the machine's health. All one is doing by placing it in a rolling bag/suitcase is adding another risk factor. Will it break every time? Of course not. But it certainly doesn't make it any safer.

Just because it's screwed down and secured doesn't make it immune to damage. Shake something hard enough or apply enough constant vibration/bumping and things are going to go badly for the machine.

They can but isn't the case all the time, especially to those inside the vehicles. Planes are especially smooth most of the time. Cars have shock absorbers. Trains can be a little iffy but overall are pretty smooth. In all cases people can use their laptops just fine while traveling in any of these vehicles. It's not the same as being strapped down in a suitcase on plastic wheels with zero shock absorption.

Anywho, do what ya want and be a little reckless with your expensive machine. It's your machine after all.

    That's what she said.

In other news, I just ordered the Tenba Shootout Pro Large bag. If the dimensions are correct it will fit the M18x and my DSLR equipment :) I'm surprised I'm the only one thinking baout a bag that will carry everything known to man! The bag is a little pricey, but the reviews are through the roof for it and being able to carry everything at once is pretty nice.

Here's the link :) Tenba Shootout Large

I've thought about going the camera bag route as well for the large pocket (still looking for something that can also hold my Case Logic SLRC-205 in the large compartment) since most backpack's I've notice have smaller folder slots.

Unfortunately, most camera bags aren't made for 18" laptops. Let us know how the Tenba works out and how the laptop compartment is.

    Thanks!!

I can confirm that the Targus XL can fit the m18x. It sits an inch out of the laptop sleeve but it can zip up. Once it zips up, there is about an inch of room in between the laptop and the top zipper. This backpack seems pretty decent especially since it only costs $55.00 . Pictures coming soon.

I RMA'd my Orion along with the M18x. I am looking for a more ergonomic shoulder system with wider and better padded straps. There was much to like about the Orion, but I am back to the drawing board. I need to re-read this thread in hopes of finding a more heavy-duty solution. I would get the Tenba if it fully accommodates the M18x, but I have my doubts.

Yeah, it's disappointing that it is so hard to find something that will be a good fit as well as ergonomic. Looking at Oakley's website, they list it as being for 17" laptops unfortunately. Also, the width of the backpack is only 12.5" and the M18x is 12.68" wide already :(

Orion 18 is sweet because it has bigger pads for the M18x :D. I sold my 17 because it was too small with less padding :p.

Anyone with the SI Computer Bag able to tell if it fits?

It looks like one of the dimensions is a little too small, but it may stretch. Even though it is cheap, I already have a SI Kitchen Sink for my smaller laptop, don't need another too small laptop bag.

For $120 dollars I'm not very impressed with the 18" Orion from those pictures. Maybe because I haven't physically inspected the Orion or that I only spent $55 on the Targus XL but I just don't get it. The Orion doesn't have the rugged design of a SwissGear nor does it have any special features other than officially being able to hold an m18x. Maybe I'm just cynical.

Actually, Targus XL neither feels nor looks more rugged to me (we have it as an option for our Clevo/Sager customers). I'd pick the Orion any day. Been using it for the past 2 years - no regrets. BTW, it's 105$ (Fortnax deal) ;)

Yeah certainly the XL isn't better but it reminds me of the 6970m xfire vs. 485 sli debate. Certainly you gain a little bit of performance, but your paying a premium for it. Obviously the Orion 18" is quite the backpack. But honestly, do you feel the $120/$105 price of admission is worth it? I think that is the million dollar question when it comes to comparing backpacks. But other than the Targus XL, Slappa Stovepipe/Kampus, Toshiba 18", Orion 18" and Everki 18" there doesn't seem to be a lot of options for consumers. And all of these backpacks are priced high due to their low quantities. I just wish that there was more competition to bring down the price.

I agree, the price is steep, we need more competition. As a person who has to carry his system to and from work on a daily basis (10-15 min walking distance), I have no choice but to stick with Orion. It's easy on my back and shoulders and is build specifically for the M18x. Has plenty of extra room for paperwork and accessories.

That looks pretty sweet, does anyone have one of these to give any insight on how well it fits the M18x? Some of the reviews on Amazon say that it just fits their 17 inchers, but aren't very clear as to how much space is left over. I'd definitely take this in terms of looks and functionality over the Orion, but I'm down to those two.

Refer to the first message of this post for a summary of all the backpacks which could fit the M18x:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/ali...eeves-backpacks-would-fit-alienware-m18x.html

raynefall said it barely fits and you have to angle it in a certain way. My interpretation is that YMMV since every bag is different and it might not fit for some folks who want a bit more gap space.

As long as the edges of the laptop aren't rubbing against the zipper, I would be fine with it. After seeing this bag, I don't want anything else. I just really hope it will fit the M18x to my liking. =/

I am going overseas very shortly and I really want to have the m18x with me when I go. Any ideas on whether it will fit into the Pelican 1495CC1 or 1495CC2? It seems like it should work based on the posted interior dimensions (18.87" x 13.12" x 3.81" of the case vs. 17.17" x 12.68" x 2.09" of the m18x) but it also claims to fit up to a 17" laptop, which would be too small. I don't have much time before I leave, and I would feel a lot better knowing I won't show up in the desert with a busted laptop.

The only two roller cases I've found that should work (according to their specifications... haven't had a chance to try them) are one from HP and one from Port Designs (France).

    Here are some links:

HP 20" Roller Case for Notebook PCs

    Port Manhattan Trolley Vertical 18"

Those links are to the manufacturers, by the way, there are considerably cheaper options available if you search around the net. Personally, I think the Port case is a bit "Airline Carry-on bag" looking, and the HP seems to be extremely front-heavy when containing a laptop (i.e., it falls over). I'd still love to find a really good roller case that will house the M18x beast though.

Had to buy some replacement gloves and sunglasses for work so I ordered the SI computer bag since I was already placing an order anyways.

I can confirm it does not fit into the SI Computer bag, it will fit inside the bag itself but you cannot close the zipper, but you can secure to top flap to hold it in. And it is too big for the internal laptop pouch. If it was only a half inch bigger on all dimensions it would fit perfect though, it is very close.

Back to looking for a bag that doesn't look like it was made for 15 yr olds.

    Hi everyone,

Brand new to this forum, nice to meet you all! I received my new M18x last Friday, extremely happy with it :D

I went to a local shop (Memory Express for those living in Alberta) to try the Everki Advance briefcase, and it fits perfectly.
    Here is the link:

Advance Laptop Bag - Briefcase, fits up to 18.4" | Briefcases | Everki

Bought it for just $40.00... I hope this helps!
