Turning off UAC did fix the issue. Which means whatever is trying to be accessed is Admin only, and the program is not running in Admin mode.
I will not continue to use my system with UAC off, as outlined in my previous post.
I need to find what it's trying to access and give users read access.
-
I am skeptical is it really AlienFXController which is throwing this error message or something else.
1) Let's find out... the next time this error pops in don't click Ok.
2) Open Taskmgr.exe
3) In the applications Tab see if you can find this 'pop up' dialog running
4) Right click onto it, if you see it running, click on "Go To Process"
5) This will take you to process Tab with the process highlighted who caused this error message.
Do let me know what you see in the Process Tab. -
I don't use an anti-virus, because I don't download things that can be viruses. Windows Defender is all I need. Screw anti-virus, just don't be a retard is all I'm saying.
-
I use eTrust thats all I can trust and you never know what is virus until its updated in Virus Signatures
-
-
It's strange but true... Maybe next time someone uses UAC they can confirm that it works... -
Well I followed the complete guide and I still cant get my keyboard listed... Some help appreciated please.
-
Hey Francis... finally you also become 64 bit
Whats up with the keyboard? Do you still do not see Keyboard in Command Center? Hope you have followed the FAQ? -
Hehe, yeah thanks for the welcome! I've been running 64 bit since 04/09/08, the day I got my m15x, and have been very happy with it. The only reason I stopped by was to try the command center fix after I saw so much hype for it. BTW good job... but after reading the regular guide and the FAQ nothing made my keyboard appear. I'm also an avid programmer however my work never allows for a lot of free time. I hope you have some ideas...
P.S. Did I say good job? -
Try opening this theme and tell me if you get any error...
Attachment moved to first post, the actual guide -
Hi,
I'm new here, and at first I want to thank you for this pretty cool guide..
I got vista x64 running on my m15x almost perfect now..
The only thing I didn't find in your guide / in the posts after:
It's not possible for me to deactivate the touch pad, and also it doesn't deactivate itself, when I plug in an external mouse..
Am I too stupid for that, did I miss something or do you already know about this "issue"?
Thx for your help.
Greetz,
d4Rk -
you need to install the synaptics touchpad driver.
http://drivers.synaptics.com/Synaptics_Driver_v10_1_8_Vista64.exe -
It will not deactivate automatically even after you have synaptic driver installed. The one I used in my guide is from synaptic and latest one. Alienware customized that driver 'per my knowledge' to support auto-disable.
Control Panel -> Classic View -> Mouse -> Device Settings
-
and alienware doesn't supply the driver for vista x64?
so there's no way to get the auto-disable function working on vista x64?
I noticed right now that it's also not possible to deactivate the touch pad via FN+F12 (you get the OSD msg "TOUCHPAD OFF" but it's still active)
-
I doubt that alienware driver in 32bit works that way either... I never had 32bit vista for more than an hour so cant say about it. but this is what AW has to say in their knowledge base...
but yeah they dont have 64bit support yet.. i thought of writing a small utility to sit in tray to disable the touchpad or with a hotkey but then forgot it. I could give it a try though. -
"touchpad auto-disable when external pointing devices are connected"
This is a feature that I also miss... but unless someone can either configure the synaptics driver themself, or program a small background application to do the same task... we're pretty much SOL.
there is PALM detection in the synaptics driver program though... you have to get to one of the advanced properties screens though... forget which one. -
Someone reminded me that I do not have Turbo Memory Support for Vista x64 in my guide... so added it now
-
why not? wouldn't it just be the simple matter of adding the right driver?
-
Yeah... I forgot to add that before as I do not have Turbo Memory on my system.
-
I am on 64 bit, but the keyboard is not being listed in the command center and ive done everything to a T.
Good job, though.
-
Fid...
Pretty much I've found that you do not have to change the baseboard value and I typed "AlienFxKeyboard" instead of "AlienFXKeyboard" in the alienware section. Then I used the new theme file you just posted before and it now works.I am successfully fully installed into vista x64!
-
lovely... so another success added to the poll
I can feel your happiness..
EDIT: strangely it should not be case sensitive as its Windows and you really cant create two registry values with same name and just case difference. AW might have done some crazy work which I am not aware of yet to make it case sensitive.. -
Beautiful tutorial! Works like a charm.
-
Glad that you liked it.. people were asking me about a light weight AlienFX Controller... how about something like this ???
I know you want to try it.. and it works great! Does not matter if you are on 32bit or 64bit it works great. All you need to do is patch your Command Center to allow custom application development, read my guide once again if you are not sure how to patch CC
-
download made available... check the guide for link and how to use it
-
Well aren't you a trooper
How very nice of you..
(Will look at this shortly)
Tom -
Thanks. I'm gonna try this.
-
Ding.... and its updated. Advanced coloring support to mix your own color. See main post for latest screenshots. More to come in future... morphing and pulse support. Power/Battery mode colors... later I will add support so that it will monitor the registry for new color values and change the colors accordingly.
This is very useful for games and other applications which want to control AlienFX but does not want to go into the details of handling it. They can just change the registry values and my application will update the color. -
I love this app
Colourwheel ftw. First on your tod list is morphing, if it's not - bump it to the first
I'd love to see the keyboard morph!
<3 -
Ok one clarification... it wont be like half part of keyboard in one color and half in another
keyboard does not support multicolor at all... so it will be one color fading into another... OK ?
-
Great job findvikas, great job
-
This post should be a sticky! like srsly. I use it so much!
[edit]: As a suggestion you could add the ability to change to color in HEX as well. I know my fav color in hex but sometimes it gets hard to pick out of a color wheel. not complaining tho this is srsly great! -
You can use RGB color to define your own color, by giving too many options I do not want to complicate the tool. BTW you can directly edit the registry values which store the colors in hex. Glad you like itthanks!
-
Yeah I know you meant that!
Shame we can't have a key fade press then
Another feature request: If you left click on the touchpad the lighttube around it could fade to red and then original or something, that would be cool -
I have to agree that AW's AlienFX hardware is very slow in responding when we compare it to XPS's Lighting hardware. I have updated the tool to monitor the registry changes so that any external program can control the lighting without knowing anything about FX. But But But.. this is slow and does not look good if winamp plugin change colors this slow...
-
Thanks. Vikas. I got the mods to work on my m15x last night. Now, I can finally turn the Alienhead off in class!
Not to mention change it to colors that I've been wanting to for a while.
-
My Keyboard still isn't working. At the part where you say "see if the touchpad is working, if so continue" mine still doesn't work. I guess that is playing a roll in it!
-
If it's just the keyboard not lighting up then try opening the theme attached to the first post of this guide. -
says its not compatible, but the keyboard is now shown, if i create a new theme keyboard disappears.
As for the touchpad, when i hit fn+f12 my touch pad doesn't turn off -
what do you mean with "its not compatible"?
I have the same problem, when I create a new theme, the keyboard always disappears (after deleting the registry entries)..
I just saved a "standard theme, where the keyboard is active" which I always load at first, when I want to create a theme.
That's working fine for me, and also its not a big deal to load the "standard theme" after launching the command center..
here's a quote for you 2nd problem:
greetz dark -
Ah i have 64bit.
Also it says the theme is not compatible with this system. I've gone through and changed the registry, changed the files, etc.
One thing i've noticed is that the file that i cut/paste returns after a reboot, as well at the registry changes itself back to alienware instead of ASUS -
Have you used the proper registry files that I supplied in patched command center ? You should be using MDRipley.reg if you have ripley design with a light pipe and alienfx keyboard.
Touchpad will turn off thats a limitation... I am hoping to create a small application that can sit in your systray and turn off the touchpad whenever you feel like. -
yes i double clicked that registry
-
Interesting... I may not have a solution for you if you go and create a new theme. But you can use the supplied theme, let it complain.. change the colors to the one you wanted and save the theme. Now your machine will use the new theme which has keyboard colors in it. I will try to look at how CC is loading new theme and why it is ignoring the keyboard.
-
I'm going to delete everything and reset everything and download everything all over. Might be a stupid mistake i'm making over here.
-
GOT IT!, it was the copying files, i did it beforehand and kept copying the file that wasn't changed
-
Another success story... Just a thought I have over 150 downloads for PatchedCommandCenter and over 100 for the Drivers Package but the polling results are showing just 10-15% of the total downloads.
I request you all to please vote if you were able to use the guide and it work as expected. -
THANK YOU findvikas!!!!! sorry my english is not the greatest, from germany. I love your work, you have made so many happy. I am a graphics design student and pretty handy with avitars and signatures. Just ask me and I will make you some custom graphics for all the trouble you went through. Any support you need, you have it here.
-thanks, DJ ARCHON -
Welcome to NBR ARCHON, thanks a lot for offering help. Will sure take your help if needed.

Yes, well ever since reading your thread on the 64bit help, I have been able to run my new alienware at full potential. I will be releasing my review of the m15x on youtube. I am a computer salesman and I have plenty experience in Computing. However not enough to change entire programs and not enough coding experience. I do look forward to your many applications that you are developing and I wish there was some way to donate to yor cause. you do such a great work.
