Also, what does the reset button on the side do? will it reset the overclocked clock if we did the overclocking in the BIOS?

Pretty sure it is a BIOS reset, but never used so not 100%

So I've called up Alienware Tech Support and they said that the damage is covered by my warranty. They issued me a RMA number and send me a shipping label. The tech support guy said that replacement of motherboard and the shipping will be free of charge. Anyone know if it's true? or I will have to pay for the shipping? Thanks in advance
-
Alienware repairs made under warranty include free shipping. They should e-mail you a shipping label that you're supposed to put on your package, or they may have arranged for home pick-up in which case Fed-Ex would show up with their own label (in US anyway).

I just hope your system still has that 4850 when it comes back haha
I would try to get them to sell you the 2nd one and have them install it as well while they got your machine -
LOL scook ^^. Then I would be better off putting back my 3870 into the system before I send it back. Ya I tried to do so, but then they said upgrade can not be done while repairing
. yeah jason thx for the information now I know I will get free shipping and free replacement for my motherboard ^^

Is AlienTouch not working on Windows 7 then?
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
worked for me, just turned off since I didn't need it
You just have to make sure the synaptics driver is loading at startup
edit: forgot this is an M17 not M17x thread, lol, hope I maybe still helped.... -
It did, I had to download the .zip version of the synaptics drivers rather then the .exe version from AW, now it works except it won't auto turn off when I connect my mouse.

Some pictures of my M17 : http://nodeffect.wordpress.com/2009/09/10/alienware-m17-review/

Hey, guys.
What's the critical temp of TZ00? Mine is at 102 degree while doing prime95.
Is it normal? -
I think that's to hot but just give me a sec I think I uploaded some time ago HW Monitor screens after palying Crysis Maxed out. (but may be a bad comparison^^)
Greetings
Julian
edit: found it
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showpost.php?p=4966308&postcount=105
Have you tryed to lift the "feeds" a bit up? Just to make more air go through the system. -
Can you simply run prime95 for 5 minutes to see? Prime95 heat it up faster.
I did lift it up a bit.
I just installed x9100, and i probably screwed the old paste on the TZ00 a bit.
My x9100 goes to 92 with prime95, is that's normal? -
you mean in C right ? wow, thats kinda high, I'm using quad core and mine can reach up to only 72C.... maybe u might want to replace the thermal pad with a new one.
-
So what exactly is the TZ00? is it the northbridge temp?
-
I think it's NB temp but I am not too sure so I'll call it motherbord temp
Ähm is Prime95 free? And everything higher than 90 sounds not healthy for me
I have no quad and Crysis doesn't stress the CPU so I'll have to find an other way to test it. (I also have atm a nb cooler)

Hey!
I just dl it and now it's running. CPU 100% RAM 2,77 GB an hm ... temps are rising atm:
TZ00 . 73°C
Core0. 64°C
Core1. 64°C
GPU 1. 54°C
GPU 2. 54°C
hm ... the fans of the m17 are quite load but not @ max I think (may be only the CPU fan is @ max) and the temps are like this for around 2 min now ...
Greetings
Julian
Edit: so now after some time went by ...Attached Files:

Nice, thx.
So we are in the same ballpark, if you use a x9100 ES, yours would overheat as mine too. Great. I am not alone.
BTW, I found out Intel calls the TZ00 temp as CPU Die temp. -
The CPU fan is actually far louder than the GPU fan for some reason, as I've found out in games which are very GPU but not CPU intensive...where CPU fan stays normal and GPU fan goes full blast it's only a little louder.
fusionsenses, you seriously need to get some new thermal paste on it. I'd highly recommend OCZ Freeze or ICD7. -
Returning the x9100. It's a bit buggy anyways. It seems it's too hot for my m17.

HI all!! i am new on this forum and i'm not speaking very good english.. Can someone tell me the series or s/n of m17x? I need the unique series or something like that ! Maybe you understand me.
-
And if you can answer quickly would be better. Thanks for your help.
-
Any serial number would be unique to the machine.
-
Okay, thanks. But even with that begins or ends? Has no resemblance?
It is composed of letters and numbers or just numbers?
I just want to know just how he looks. Can You show me a picture or something? Thanks! -
It's prob on the compartment under the batterrie with all other codes
-
Hi, anyone knows the expected turn-around time for the RMA process? My m17 is currently in the service center but I called the tech rep and they said they will only ship it back next week. But then I had send it back to Alienware almost 2 weeks ago. Thanks
-
So where is the "official" M17 Benchmark thread?
-
Mandrake think you should make one since you own a m17 right now~ ^^

I tried once with a cpu OC and it was 15.8K. Probably would need my qx9300 for 17K. -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
ya those are at 1280x1024. no one with any dignity uploads the non default res ones haha
-
I thought no one with any dignity still uses 3DMark06
I have a new goal. To beat YOUR 3DMark score with my 3870s.
Edit: BTW, the keyboard illumination is about 10x brighter and more even on the M17x than the M17. I'm assuming it's supposed to be that way? -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
well, shouldn't be hard, that QX9300 OC'd like a special olympics contestant.....barely broke 3 GHz
Beat my OC on the GPUs and I will be impressed haha
If you need a challenge, beat my score with only 3018 MHz on your QX9300 -

True that, the illumination was night and day when I got my M17x. But that was not what made me like my whitebook

Just want to let everyone know that shirleyfu1117 from ebay is THE BEST seller I found on ebay.
Good communication, fast service, would go extra miles for customers.
I now got a T9800 from him/her.
ps. I don't get commission for saying this. -
Yeah most of us use/have used Shirleyfu117 he is a HE apparently.
What is the T9800 running like?? what are the temps compared to the X9100?
I know that you did not like for the X9100 for running too hot. Mine was like that at first and even now sometimes runs hotter than I think it should. -
The X9100 was running at 90+ degree, and the TZ00 was running over 100 deg which then throttle the system, hence the performance was even lower then my P8400. So, there is no way I can settle with that purchase. The X9100 ES was C0(which is hotter) and 1 of the pin was bent.
Now, I got this T9800 OEM, which runs nicely, is about 9 degree higher than my P8400. At around 69 in Prime test.
I got a question, what should I put in between the TZ00 and the heatsink? Thermal paste is too thin for it, and the original stuff is really in bad shape with all different kind of thermal paste in the mix. What's the original stuff called? It's not a pad, but it's not a paste that we use. -
Believe it or not it is a pad that is used originally.
I use something called AKASA thermal tape and it keeps my X9100 relatively cool, I like it anyway and would not use anything else.
I tried my own pad and the temps went even higher. It doesnt seem like a pad because they crumble quite easily but it is a pad originally. You need a pad or a thermal tape to fill that gap. -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
or copper mod it
that is what alot of users have done -
It should be very cheap.
I am not ready for copper mod, unless someone can send me one. -
-
But the thing is I am in Canada, the HP doesn't mail to Canada I think.
Can you show me the link again? -
BTW, I got that thermal tape and thermal pads from Amazon. The thermal pad is almost the same as Alienware use. It just doesnt look like a pad when you take off the heatsink because its been mushed up by the heat...it was a pad originally.
good luck! -
