Sorry its still uploading.. and why do you still insist on using the inferior arctic silver 5? Again MX-2 cools better, is not electricaly conductive so you cant mess up, and lasts longer, and needs no time to set in. Everyone is still so set on as5 and i just cant understand it. It is not more efficient, it is just old news.

ok redid everything and got a pad for my northbridge from my previous laptop gpu...i cut it to fit the northbridge heat sink surface...i redid the thermal paste for the cpus and gpus and just put on a very thin layer with a credit card...will run 3dmark06 and see what temps are now
-
sweet glad it didnt break
run ati tool and orthos to break in that paste -
Stuttering is gone......NO JOKE
i modded the heatsink on the chipset with a sheet of copper in between to seal off any gap...my dad did the copper for me since he knows about that stuff.....i then ran 3dmark06 and here are my MAX TEMPS
tz00: 76C
Core1:83c
Core2:81c
Core3:77c
Core4:73c
gpu1:80c
gpu2:79c
I THEN HIT A NEW 3DMARK06 RECORD!!!!!

very good seems liek you kept the north bridge cool
-
yes i can confirm that doing what i did in my last post above has eliminated all stuttering...no more drops in 3dmark06 and games run perfect....no windows jitter even before the fans kick in. What i also did was cut the thermal pads for the gpu memory and individually cover the memory banks instead of a long strip across the heatsink which served no good purpose, the south bridge i covered very well with thermal padding also. Im happy to say that i think its 100% heat related to the bridges and GPU memory banks not being individually padded....well atleast in my case...im dead tired gnight everyone
edit: 6 runs of 3dmark06 and no stutter so far, all scored above 16k -
good night halogod
a note to people the cooling will get better in his laptop since AS5 takes time to cure and cools better after 100-200 hours -

So it is just a overheating issue with what comes stock?

So it is just a overheating issue with what comes stock??
-
what tha heckz
-
let us know when you get it
-
ive modified my gpu cooler. ill take pics and post them in a bit
-
thanks it seemed the memory controllers on the gpu needed some loving as well as the north bridge
-
And could you post some pictures of what you did exactly?
And Axman yours would be nice too..
And has anyone actualy tried those cpu thermal pads that melt? I mean if it doesnt work i cant get it off again right? -

ok so basically he used the copper mod on the northbridge and also the southbrigde. then reapplied thermal paste to the cpu and also no thermal paste added to the gpu. then cut off the extra pads from the gpu because it served no purpose.
halogood axman and hellcry i will love to see pictures of how your jobs look. i will also try this as the problem is solve for all of you.
before i put issue solved. i will love to try this (which i WILL today) and i will love for zfactor and maybe one more to confirm this. -
We need more confirmations and more testing. Will be back to check yours and submit mine when i do it.
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
hellcry i now you did your cpu over also. what did you do? just some thermal paste on the cpu?
-
Hopefully this is the fix!! How many others are testing?
-
Yeah i just used the mx-2 paste.
-
Whoa.. This sounds great. Can't wait to see Don confirm this as well. Then it wouldn't be coincidence that it was heat related.
If you guys fixed it, you should all call and get some type of bonus from the alien people. -
yup i temporarily did a rig up job on the heatsink and brought the temps way down on the chipset and no stuttering at all.. my 3dmark also went up by almost 600 points!!!!
im going to try the copper piece for a permanent fix..
can i say this....
i told you so ( it was the heat from the chipset.. ) lol
everything is just overheating it thats why raid and swapping for ssd's helped as much.. and going to one stick of ram.. it was all less voltage on the chipset making it heat up less. -

I for one also hope its something small as simple overheating. Maybe it would also be nice if someone where to make a howto for the people who arent that sure about where what is concerning the laptops entrails.
Then I could get my qx9300 out of my drawer and into my laptop.. -
What copper piece are you talking about zFactor?
And where is the southbridge..?
Any pictures yet? -
i cut a copper piece from copper stock i had here. i put mx-2 on the northbridge then the copper then mx2 then the heatsink. i did away with the thermal pad it had stock. i did not mod the southbridge yet but i will be doing the same for that as well
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
i am doing it now. and i just need some advice on putting the cpu on. and i don't have any copper to use.
. i will post results.
-
as you were calling my phone died on me already today don.. i need a new battery arghh gonna order a couple today
shoot me a pm ill be checking in here -
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
i am taking alot of pictures and i will post. and i will also make a video of it. but i am going to put pads on the gpu and record temps. it will take me another half of an hour.
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
ok i am on a computer for a little so i can type faster and more. i am cleaning off the mx-2 off the gpu's and place the pads on it. i am going to post everything and steps if this works. hopefully this hack up job will work.
-
usually hack up jobs arn't very permanent lol
-
Shockwave_Omega Notebook Consultant
I orderd me some mx-2 and some new thermalpads for the northbridge .. i guess
dunno if its the north or south bridge near the CPU.. I get lost in a laptop but I can disassemble and reassemble any PC no problemo..
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
i am done and i made a video and alot of pictures. i am going to test it out and see if i still have problems and then post what i did.
-
Nice work guys!
Hey Don, ya looking to get a job at Alienware in the R&D department? -
Haha I'd be shocked if they didn't offer him one
Well done guys on this, fingers crossed this is the fix! Looking forward to seeing those pictures and the video Don, good luck with the testing! -
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
i would love to get a job at alienware. but i am testing everything i will be back with a full report.
-
i would love one to but i would hate to get screwed over
-
yes i can still confirm what i did fixed the stuttering...still no stuttering today...i will take pics of what i did later because i gotta go out all day today....and yes zfactor u were right...it was heat and it took us to fix alienwares horrible job on the paste and thermal pads on the gpu memory banks....o well im happy i fixed the issue and hope Don can also confirm this
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
i forgot to put the crossfire cable in.
-
-
i havent a quad processor, but it looks like the ones with quad cores shoving more info through the northbridge has found this problem (and maybe fixed it) would you reccomend the ones without quadcores doing the same things to their laptops i.e re pasting and modding as and where needed.
-
i cannot wait to see you wonderful guys put on detailed manual with pictures. Well done!
-
That's why I modded the heatsink......it feels so nice to be stutter free....like a new laptop....I'm shooting for another 3dmark record today
-
And lets make sure we rep these guys for all their hard work for everyone's benefit. -
Don't forget to do the memory bank padding individually that I did.....it helps
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
first run no stutter. i will try again. and see what happens. -
Dondadah.. i dont mean to burst your bubble.. but look at your nb temperature
... its even higher than mine after a 3dmark run.
What is your room temperature (for comparison purposes)? -
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
my cpu is a little hot so i am going to reapply thermal paste to my cpu. but stutter free guys. uploading pictures not. i need to compress my video it is 500mb.
