While were talking about hdd and ssd

You can run an SSD and a 7200hd in Raid correct?

And if so, is it a better performance than 2 hdd?

    Just wondering thats all... ;x

no because the raided hard drive can only go as fast as the slowest one .....which means your gonna make your SSD run as fast as the mechanical which would defeat the purpose of having one in the first place

Well I'm still not there yet... After applying som MX2 to the GPU's everything seemed ok. Did some games did some benches. Now after a couple of days I come back to my laptop and the same choppy stuff is back.. However now the laptop was cold. Nothing overheating ( how could it I just turned it on ).

When playing the windows vista intro it started lagging and studdering like hell. As did my mouse input.

I thought this was mainly a quad problem.

I haven't changed any thermal compound/pads yet so my northbridge is at a kinda high 88C and I don't have any stuttering.

I've reinstalled my OS to use an SSD along with a HDD and have used various graphics drivers.

I wonder why you're getting the choppy stuff Shockwave.

If you're not in RAID 0, I'd be interested to know if you run into the same problems when removing your secondary HD and/or the Slave VC + Crossfire cable.

I wonder if maybe it comes down to a power draw / distribution problem in your case Shockwave.

i read his post. he has a qx9300 and a p8400. shockwave halogod and zfactor. do me a favor since i am not home. do the following task at the same time and tell my if you stutter.
defragment you hdd. listen to music and keep your cpu busy. don't run prime we aren't looking for heat. use cputest.

rob41 has pointed out at 88 he is fine.

also after seeing results and test. me and omega are using pads and halogod and zfactor is using copper. also halogod and omega is using as5 and me and zfactor is using mx2.

also omega can you take off your heat sink and see if the pad is to smashed out. i just was adding some thermal paste to mines to see if i can get temps lower and when i looked at my pad there was barely anything there. so i didn't worry and just put everything back on and i ALSO STARTED TO STUTTER. then i used some extra pads that i had and STUTTERING STOP. i am wondering if just copper is the fix. why because what is posted up above and the pad is a temp i am fine right now as i have a fresh pad.

i am going to see if i have somethng copper to try out and post results later tonight. don't worry omega everything is going to be good.

don i just got in the front door literally... i still am seeing no stuttering at all. so im not sure. it has not hicupped once since i added the copper.

how is yours doing halogod? any stutter yet?? and this is for sure a heat issue... i know what you were saying about the x9100 at over 80deg but remember its only one core to cool. we are dealing with two and imo what is happening is we are saturating the heatpipes and not allowing the nb to release the full temps it should out through the pipes.. it also im sure has a very small amount to do with voltage but ill be honest just by adding the piece of copper my stutter went away. about an hour later i removed it and restarted and it was stutter city again. i put it back and its running great now again. the other thing may be that the nb is just not seating totally right on the heatsink due somehow to the way the heatsink sits on the quads die's.. im going to use some pressure sensitive stuff i have here to show me how well its seating on the nb die. thats why i think the copper works more than anything its making a nice tight mating surface and allowing just enough more heat to get out through the pipes..

what you are doing with thermal pads is not really what should be done with those type of pads anyway. they are only decent at passing heat but far from great. those pads were never meant to pass that much heat through them like paste does, and for sure they SHOULD NOT be used at all on the gpu die's.

im going to cut this heatsink tomm even more what im going to do this time is cut out the areas where the ram chips are those exact areas and im going to mount ram sinks directly to the chips themselves. but the largest drop in temps was FOR SURE the holes in the bottom for the fans..

thanks zfactor you have been a great help. i still don't have any copper on me now but i will try other methods. and i found out the about the pads very easy. on 3dmarek within 15secs i hot 107 and 108 on the gpus. so i took that off.

so it is the NB isn't getting covered completely? your threoy seems the best that i have heard because everything else if you think anout it doesn't seem to fit. (ram drivers everything.) so you can say the NB isn't getting covered completely. because it is happening to all quad's not just ours.

and keep us up to date and what's going on.

Eh Don I am using MX2 as well. I dont have AS5.

I also checked my thermal pads specially the on i cut up. no movement or shifting there they are all in place as well as the NB pad.

The stupid thing is with me after a little while it starts to act normal again.

Also I already tried with my 2nd harddisk out and the results are the same. and I would rather not pull out a videocard ( cant keep em apart :p )

I have also put my XQ9300 up for sale/trade. I just want a goodworking gaming machine.. not some halfbaked heavily modded laptop that won't let me play without problems..

nope, i am affraid to do that and i dont have special hands like yours. but i am watching here for bios update or easy way.

i am playing games in windowed mode atm. it is safe way to avoid from stutter. i opened new post for this .. i dont know why there is a 20c of difference between windowed and fullscreen gaming.

yep there is a difference like 15 fps at mass effect.

    fullscreen 60-62 fps
    windowed 45-52 fps.

i dont care fullscreen atm, i dont have heat problem or stutter. who cares the difference, which is my eyes didnt feel the difference :)

I don't have any handy at the moment. But this has been comming for some time now. I'm just really annoyed by the fact that you just can't change out a simple processor without causing the system to get severe problems. Hopefully another dual core will give a nice preformance boost over the P8400.

this just a old dell. i am sure you must have a old desktop to break it off.

don't order silver you should of ordered copper. copper takes more heat out them silver does. by i think 20%. but yes it does work.
