mr moo. can you take alot of pictures of your notebook. inside out. with the cover and with out. side vents. i need gpu's shots. you don't have to take it off just take pictures of it. also your cpu and north bridge. i have halogods pictures and axman and hellcry. i also need your temps. i want to focus on your gpu. in order to heat them up use dmc4 demo benchmark and just run run and run about 3 times. three times with the cover and three times without the cover. then i need a screen shot of hwmoniter. with them. do the same as below with your overclocked
    t9400 and stocked.

i will also like halogod to do the same since he modded his. i also need his runs for 3dmark06. and i need his voltages. of his cpu and clock speeds. i also need him to run prime for his cpu for one hours. or cpustab test since that heats up quick. @2.53, 3.06, 3.2ghz. (if you an't do some of the test please let me know and i can do it.)

i will also like rob41 to do the same as halogod with his x9100 on prime and stab test but at 3.06, 3.33, 3.5.

omegashock since you didn't do the copper can you run the same as above. plus 3dmark. i also need a video of the stuttering in games and music playing and mouse movements.

i will update with more info. the more the better.

No problem, just give me till tomorrow cause my "good" thermal paste will be here. The crappy stuff I used have my temps higher than I like.

Hm! Knowledge is power and that's why I am interested in everything!

At first I am interested in my problem why the notebookcooler doesn't realy effect the temps :(

My m17 isn't that mutch used that something is dusty or something like that

On the other side I am interested in optimising without risking mutch^^

I am afraid of killing my m17 during the warenty :D

    Greetings
    Julian

(pictures FAN LOW I'll add no fan and max fan asap)

ok you want to heat up your gpus???
download the dmc4 demo and run the benchmark 2 times at maxed out settings. and lets see your results.

also in your first pic your drivers aren't installed right.

give us a pic of dmc4 with and without cooler.

also what cooler are you using?

Oh dang it :D I am too fast^^

I just did 3 times (8 runs) World In Conflict (steam) Demo Benchmark:

    OFF, MAX, LOW

And you see, the difference in the max temps are quite not there^^

I am running 9.5 and I think you mean the picture with only one gpu temp, this was befor 9.5 ;)

It's now 5:03 so sadly time to sleep :D

THX for the suggestion, when I wake up I'll let it rock :D (your benchmarksuggestion)

    Have a good night!

So now it's a bit cooler in my room, around 3°C and after 8 runs I am a bit cooler but this time a made a video :p

btw I just woke up so I slepped nearly 12h xD

I use the Antec USB Notebook Cooler 200 Design and here is the video, I hope you can see something. I connectet a second LCD and draged the HWMonitor to the second and let WIC Benchmark run 8 times, as I said

Youtube: Alienware M17 World in Conflict Benchmark Temp TEST (sadly you have more or less to guess the temps :( )

Now I'll do something for school and than I'll test your suggestion :)

    Greetings
    Julian

Edit: I think 82°C max is not that bad, but I without the "turning" fan I get quite the same temps ... I guess the M17 fans are working so well they don't need a extra one they just need the space that's why I'll add a test where the notebook is on a flatt ground.

your room temps are cool right now?????

i would recommend acouple things for your temps.

this is the notebook with the cover as you can see there is not real breathing path for underneath, that's why your cooler isn't getting to your computer parts as it's suppose to
    [IMG]

this is it without the cover as you can see there are two fans that but if you look at the cover there is no breathing holes for them to breath
    [IMG]

    gpu fan
    [IMG]

    cpu fan
    [IMG]

this is by cutting where the fans are located to give maxium air flow to your fans
    [IMG]

this method will drop your temps 5-10 degrees alone.

if you are afraid about your waranty you can ask alienware if they will still take it but you can get another cover from a reseller if you would like.

if you are iffy about it, then under it you will see a cloth on the cover you can remove the one for the cpu and the gpu. (i don't have a screenshot of that part.)

if you are worried about dust then buy a air compressoer.i had mines stock also because i was afraid of dust but after a month i looked under and there was still alot of dust. so i cleaned it off and removed the cloth and it was still the same.

i will put up more ways to cool it.

THX for the idea, I just had the same thought today because of the pictures of the new m17x ... the whole bottom can breath ... and my dad is a dentist and you wouldn't belive it, he has tools to cut simmilar "wholes" in the bottom. But as you expected, I am afraid to void my warenty and so I'll more or less have to buy a second back or make my own :p I am quite sure I have an old PC somewhere, it will have to suffer :D

Did you notice an increas in any benchmar by lowering the temps by this method?

    Greetings
    Julian

PS: I am just making an Mobility Modder Guid and I am asking my self where you have uploaded this pics^^

    Ah EDIT: room temp 24°C

tinypic it the best uploading picture/video website i used.

only syntenic benchmarks like 3dmark06 and vantage. but this is to make your computer last. over 80 degrees for gaming and it's not even warm will kill your gpu's in no time. even though i notice that ati has a longer life then nvidia.

My mobile sucks ... I don't know why they limit this 3.2 MP camera while recording :(

    "re-recording"
= using a program to increas the quality?
    = using a other/better camera?

the pad is temp fix. you should of been good for a week until the pad gets flatened out. plus it doesn't take out as much heat as the copper would.

Yes, that sounds about right, i was good for the first bit that i had it.

but now its gotten much much worse.

so i need a copper mod.

but he was saying that we sould or could use a pad again, instead of the copper if we wanted to,

i dont think its a good idea,

    i will get copper,

and from what i have seen here .04 or .05 mm is what is needed.

Yeah, I wouldnt recommend it. It was cheap and the reviews on newegg say that it sucks. but I just bought it because it was at the px here.

The only reason why Im a little happy with it, is bc it dropped my temps alot.
but I guess the fans are suppose to give out after a month.

I too have a cooling fan, but i can not take it with me.

I have a hard enough time carying this laptop with me, now a cooling fan?

I have a nzt one your talkinga bout. its alright. nothing too great about it.

the problem with cooling fan is there is not enough vents for the air to get into my laptop to start with!

    Hey,

    A question;

I applied OCZ freeze to my CPU en GPU's and i did not know how much to put on there.

I put only 1 small amount (size of a grain of rice) in the middle of the CPU & GPU's chipset and did not stroke it out (spelling?) but just put the heatsinks/coolers back. I googled it and read that when doing it ike this, the heatsink (or w/e its called) pushes the thermal paste nicly in position by itself this way.

Is this the correct way to do it?

Also, i am interested in getting a 2nd bottom for the M17. Where can i order 1?

    ask zfactor for the bottom.

also apply your freeze to the cpu/gpu cores. do not put any on the memory sinks. and put a very very thin amount and you should be good.
