    Hey all -

So I know that this has been an issue from the beginning - I even spent a couple of hours trying out different Bison drivers from all over Google and never did get my webcam on my 9750 to work. My hope is that someone has found something in the past month.

I wouldn't care, really, as I don't ever use it but my brother is leaving tonight for Afganistan and has set up a Skype account for the family to talk. Because of this, I must get my webcam working or I may just have to go buy one which I'd rather not due obviously.

Skype (as well as other apps) say that the webcam works, but attached is the picture that I get. It's all gray except for the top 5% which is static looking.

    Any ideas anyone???

    Thanks! - Ben

    Wow - Thanks! :D

I really didn't think that I'd find one or that one existed. In an attempt to try to show my appreciation, I'll host the file for a while on my website so that no one has to do the whole Rapidshare thing.

Yeah, that camera driver has always been a pain in the rear.

To cybstem: All I can recommend is to make sure you have the latest BIOS and then reinstall Win 7. I really havent heard of this problems changing from one version of windows to the other. I tripple boot XP 64bit, Server2008 64bit, and Win7 64 bit and they are all stable.

Hey guys, any chance you could put up a file with all the m9750 Windows 7 64 bit drivers? I've been going through this thread for about 20 pages but I still don't think I have them all. >.<'

Thanks for any help you can give...

The only driver that Windows will not automatically install is the Bison WebCam Driver. Everything else Windows will have no problem getting and installing.

Is there anyway to convert desktop gfx card drivers into the mobile version?

Nvidia released new drivers for bad company 2 beta and a few other games but they only seem to cover the desktop version of my card, wondering whether theres anyway to convert those drivers for the mobile version of my card.

The latest drivers for my card otherwise seem to be 179.48 from march of last year :-/

Will give them a go thanks, didn't notice them.

Managed to install 196.34 drivers from laptopvideo2go.com with modified inf file making them compatible with my notebook and they've been working very well so far but i'll test out the 186.81 drivers and see if theres any difference. Mainly attempting to optimise for Battlefield: Bad Company 2.

    Hey All -

Just got a new work laptop to replace having (getting) to use my personal m9750. Because of this, I'm going to sell my m9750. I may list it on eBay or Craigslist, but felt that I needed to post something here so that i feel it would go to a loving home  (can't believe I feel that way about a laptop).

Below are all the specs. Even though most in this forum know these specs, I've added a few things to this laptop as upgrades. I really don't know what to ask for it exactly, so assuming most if not everyone that reads this are not interested in purchasing it, then what would you think a fair price would be to sell it for?

    17" Black Alienware m9750
    Windows 7 x64 Ultimate
2.7G DC CPU (i think - will verify)
    4G RAM
    (2) SLI Nvidia 8800m Video Cards
    (1) Intel x25-m 80g SSD For OS & Critical Apps (May sell seperatly or keep)
    (1) 500g Hard Drive (Storage)
    (1) CD/DVD Burner
    (1) Yoggie Gatekeeper Pro Card Security (Express Card)
    (1) B/G/N W/L Card
    (1) 10/100/1000 NIC (Will have to verify that it's 1000 - it's stock)
    Bluetooth, Keyboard, Touchpad.........

I'll configure it to any specifications of purchased too...

Any suggestions / opinions / ideas / & offers would be appreciated! - Thanks!

Hey guys, I've had my m9750 since late 2007 and I just did a complete system respawn to factory settings. For some reason Internet Explorer isn't letting me download any programs off the internet. I've tried doing all sorts of things, instructions found on google haven't helped me, including changing my McAfee settings as well as Internet Explorer settings. Any advice on this is appreciated.

Secondly, should I update all the drivers as in the OP, or are there specific ones I should update? I haven't read most of the thread, so if this question is obvious I apologize in advance.

If you used the Alien Respawn DVD, then it could be any number of reasons. Have you tried to reinstall/install IE8? Does Windows update work at all? Otherwise I sugest getting the install for Firefox on a USB key from another computer and try that.

Then yes, try some of the updated drivers listed on the front page. One at a time, and in the order that is most important to you. Let us know how you get along.

    Hi,

First post so go easy on me :)

I've just installed Win 7 64bit home premium and cannot get any of the video drivers that are posted on here to work they keep saying this is not the 32bit version of vista/win 7. Am i doing something completely dumb?

    I have dual Geforce 8700mGT

    thanks for any help

    Welcome Edd!

You need to be certain that you are downloading the 64bit version of the drivers. Most of the drivers here are going to be the 32bit versions. Yeah, we havent been that good at updating recently.

I personally would go to www.nvidia.com and try to download the driver from there. They have a fairly easy form for figuring out what drivers you need. Here is the direct link for the latest and greatest for you: here.

    Good luck!

That is a tough question without an easy answer. I would suggest trying to find answers around the web that would be best for your games, and then go to laptopvideo2go.com to get the modded drivers. Some people there even mod drivers especially for laptops.

That being said, yes the MODDED 186.81 drivers work fine. I have the sam 7950s in SLI and I boot 3 different windows each with a different driver: 179.91 beta (last supported driver), the 186 and the latest 195.61 modded drivers. It all depends on the game which version I need to run it on. But try it out for yoruself, just make sure you use DriverCleaner first.

196.34 from laptopvideo2go.com works well for me, i mainly play bad company 2 these days though.

    Also using 7950 GTX's.

If anyone has found better performance using other drivers im all ears!

Would anyone recomend installing the new dell/nvidia beta drivers for the m17x? 196.86 ?

Normally I post new RealTek drives, but today I've a question to the community...

A few days ago the main adapter of my m9750 gave up and and resulted in a blackout. I phoned to Alienware because I still have warranty.

The answer was that Alienware don't feel responsible and won't change the main adapter. They just say I have to look at eBay for another adapter.

Is this normal? Why I have paid the extra warranty for nothing?
If this is the new behaviour of Alienware I'll never buy from them again.

    Greetings

I also tried to get a new adapter from them, and the excuse they gave me was simply they don't have it anymore. I didn't have a warranty anymore so maybe they were allowed to tell me the truth. Since you do have a warenty they have to cover themselves first. Also remember that the m9750 fell under the old service structure of Alienware before they integrated into Dell. All the m15x and m17x models go under the Dell model.

The way I solved my problem was to buy it from notebook-doctor.com. They were the only reseller on the net that had one that worked. Here is the link for you, but they seem to be out of stock. You can try to ask them anyway.

And another warning: don't buy the targus brand adaptor, it does not fit the power port on the back of the m9750. You could buy it if you know an electrician willing to splice your old power plug onto the targus power supply, but that is your call I guess.

Good luck walujam. It wont be the same here if you're not posting the Realtek updates :)

Thank you for your reply and your help. I'll try this site.

However I still don't understand why I should pay for a 3-year-warranty, when Alienware is not willing to help.

BTW: => New Realtek HD Audio Driver R2.44 is out!!! <= :)

    Greetings
    walujam

Edit: I found some sellers at eBay who offer the power supply adapter

I agree with you that they have to honor their commitments. It really is too bad you can't bring it up with Dell directly. I do hope you can find a replacement though.

Now they will exchange the brocken one with a new one.

Thats good news, however I had to wait 3 weeks for this answer.

Heya Shiftehh, Simply download the driver from laptopvideo2go.com and it extract its contents. Then download the modified INF file on the same page you would have downloaded the driver and copy that inf file into the extracted driver folder. It should ask you to replace a file of the same name (probably called nv_disp.inf), choose yes and then you should be able to install the driver for your mobile graphics card by double clicking on setup.exe as normal. (Officially those beta drivers are for desktop video cards and thats probably why your getting that error, what the modified INF does is enable you to use the driver on mobile GPU's)

Oh and make sure you remove your current drivers properly such as removing it and deleting existing drivers, rebooting in safe mode and then running Driver Sweeper, then installing your new drivers and rebooting again.

197.25 is out now with alot of improvements, gonna test them out tonight and see if theres any difference with BC2. I've tried tons of various drivers such as 196.21, 196.86, 197.13, 197.15 and a few other older ones including the official drivers for my card (the ones recomended at the start of this thread) and the 196.34 drivers seem to give the best overal performance for my card in BC2.

Hi all, first post here although I did read the entire thread. Thanks to all for your awesome contributions and willingness to help. I've had my 9750 for a year and a half and until last Nov when windows update ate my HD, it's been flawless. When WU BSOD'd me in a boot loop circling the 6th pit of hell, I called AW support. I had found 1 submission on another board with the same error code, and told them this. They had me pull my battery, HD, ram, and video cards for whatever reason. I knew it wasn't a hardware issue and after putting it all back together, did a respawn. It got me back up but after, my web cam was non functional. Didn't know or care at the time, but last week I did a dual boot install of Win 7 64 bit. While driver hunting, I found your place here. I had acquired the "Base system device" entries(2) in the win 7 device mgr. After hours of cyber backflips for the BSD's and webcam, I got the bison program and drivers to install, but still no webcam. Yesterday I decided to tear it apart again thinking maybe something was loose from the Nov debacle, reassembled, and the webcam worked! No more gray window. (if the light doesn't come on, no power to the cam). I screen shot the expanded Devmgr from win 7, and did a side by side with the XP boot. The "Base System Device" is indeed the SD card reader. The page 1 driver link only gave me the dell driver installer...no driver. I got a different driver for the same device # and installed it and viola! no more BSD, device mgr shows all happy, and my webcam works. I found a great tutorial for the dual boot with Win 7, if anybody wants it I'll post a link. Sorry for the long post, and thanks again for the great advice.

    Cheers!

Hi all, I was wondering if someone could briefly talk me through about upgrading the driver for the graphics card, I have a single 7950GTX in the machine. I know about laptopvideo2go.com but have no idea how you figure out which driver release to grab? I know there are modified .inf files but none of them list the 7950GTX so im confused.

Again any light shed on this for me would be greatful.

    Thanks in advance

    Hi Nella,

Go to laptopvideo2go and go to the forums. There you will see 17X, 18X, and 19X forum sections. The latest ones are currently in the 19X area. Pick a driver topic that matches your OS (example Windows 7 32bit, etc). You will see some file links at the top of the post. You need to click "Download Driver" and "Modified INF". Once downloaded, you will need to "extract", or run, the driver to a temp directory. In this directory copy over the modified INF. Overwrite the old INF, that is ok. Now run settup from this directory and follow the instructions.

Now if that is too complicated, Follow this link below to fairly recent, pre-modded drivers. I use them and they work great for my 7950GTX SLI:

    Vista 32bit: download

    Vista 64bit: download

    Windows 7 32bit: download

    Windows 7 64bit: download

For XP you will need to use the forum process, or download directly from nvidia

Thanks for that rsgeiger, I was finding it a little confusing.

I clicked on drivers on the main page of laptopvideo2go and there it asks for PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_ now i know how to find that info in device manager under hardware id. Mine says "0297" but when i search the modified .inf files i cant see a line that matches mine except for in 186.91.

Am I just getting myself confused or will all 19X drivers that keep being released work for the 7950GTX?

    Nella

All modified drivers (or 99%) should work with the 7950FTX. I havent found a modified INF on that site that didnt work for me.

you should try the BIOS install, as it sounds like it may help. Noone else I've heard of has had similar symptoms, so i cant give you more reference than that.

Did it start recently, or since Windows 7 was installed?
