This is a very very good thread. Helped alot when I was installing win 7 on my new lappy. Question though. would you consider posting a modded nvidia driver for people with 7950gtx cards as the latest on available from nvidia is not working correctly for people with sli.

Someone will just have to keep reposting here every day so that it stays on the front page. I am also asking "Chaz" to try and resticky this thread, and to get the other lost m9750 guides moved to this subforum.

I'll post an update when I have more news.

Hey guys, I've got my m9750 for over 2 years now and it has never let me down. Today I thought I'd give Company of Heroes another go.. Great game! It has always run silky smooth with all settings maxed out.. But now it gives me bad performance.. It's not as smooth anymore, but how can this be? I have the latest driver on Nvidia (179.48 beta).. I have SLI enabled.. What could this be? It's also not overheating or anything.. Is my alienware dying?

    Thanks!

Anyone here play APB beta with their m9750?

Tried those new beta drivers 197.75 + 197.57 but they wouldn't work, kept getting this error: "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)"

Not sure. Either it is the beta, or nVidia had finally dropped any support for the 7 series with these new drivers. I sure hope not, but I wouldnt be surprized.

Hi i'm new new here and I've been going trough almost the all the posts but i haven't found a single one with my problem so i'm just gonna ask the stupid question.
    I got a M9750
    2x GF Go 7950 GTX
    Windows 7 64Bit

For a while now every time i tried upgrading the graphics card it would keep crashing and rebooting after the windows logo screen. The only way i got the computer to work was using the standard windows NVIDIA Driver.
After months of testing i finally found out that 1 of the 2 GF cards was the source of the crashing. And this maybe just plain idiotic but it turned from 7950 GTX into 7900 GS, now is that even possible to begin with??
Cause after further testing that same 7900GS when disabled windows will work properly even after I update the graphics card. And the moment i turn on the 7900 GS i instantly crash my system.

So my questions is quite simple.
    1. Is that 2nd graphics card really a 7950 GTX or is something wrong and it was recognized wrongly?

    2. Is the 2nd Graphics card really broken or is there a way to test it?

    3. If it really is broken anyplace i can get a new one? since it is quite old

    Hi Ecchi,

Sorry about your problems but that is actually a very good question. It is unlikely that you were given a 7900gs by mistake, especially since you say that it is happening more recently. Most likely the 7950gtx is malfunctioning. You could try to re-flash its BIOS, but I honestly dont know if that would help. The last thing you could try is to reinstall windows from scratch. Maybe it got hit with a wrong driver at some point and windows has it registered as the wrong part. This can still happen even after deleting old drivers.

Ebay is about the only place left where you can find a replacement card. It is up to you to see if it is worth it. Personally, I would just leave that card disabled until you buy a new laptop.

the new Nvidia 8700M graphic card drive (257.21) is out at
    NVIDIA DRIVERS 257.21 WHQL

would deffinatly NOT recommend downloading it. I had 2 issues with it so far.

1st - flickering when playing video thew windows media player
2nd - my computer wouldn't even turn on after the windows loading screen, until i put it in safe mode and uninstalled the drive and reinstalled the old one.

Yeah for the last few months the m9750 sold it only offered the 8700 because the 7950 had been discontinued...
    Personally, I have an 8700 because my single 7950 burned up and when I went to replace it they only had the 8700 ^^;;

Hey guys, I've had my m9750 for close to 3 years now and just reformatted it to get rid of clutter space and to just start fresh, but for some reason I can't get my sound driver to work. Can anyone help me? I installed the one I have saved on my USB, which is an older version and I installed the one that's posted in this forum, but it just won't register. :/

3 videos cards work on the m9750:

    - 8700m GT
    - 7950m GTX
    - Ati mobility HD3870 (the best of the 3 in terms of performance)

Yes, max is 4gb, but only 2.5gb usable by the system (32 or 64 bit is the same), and T7600 max yes.

T7700 is a different socket >>> cannot fit in the m9750.

Max FSB of the M9750 is 667 Mhx.
    T7700 => 800 FSB.

    Hello All -

Got a brief question. After being retired for a few months, I decided to break out and use my Alienware 9750m today.

I decided to do an OS reinstall after playing with it a few minutes. I started installing Windows 7 from a USB flash drive which was working well. Half way, though, Windows 7 installation reboots.

When it rebooted, it stayed stuck at the BIOS screen. I've tried draining the flea power, resetting the BIOS by unhooking the power, battery, and CMOS battery, but nogo.

Please help! Any suggestions would be appreciated - Thanks!

    Nevermind - Fixed it!

While thinking of what could b e the issue, I swapped the Hard Drive out with a different one and it worked! I put the hard drive that caused the error in a different laptop and it booted into Windows setup just fine. Interesting...

Anyways, thanks for being here for me to post anyways! - BzowK

My friend has a really wierd problem with his Area 51 SLI m9750. A couple of days ago he closed his laptop lid, it was configured to continue running when closed. I confirmed via the logs that this was the case, the machine ran without a problem until he opened the lid the next morning. The screen turned on, but stayed black.

When you reboot the machine it boots with the normal Windows 7 x64 load screen, but right when the Welcome/Login screen has to appear it turns black again. After a couple of minutes it'll sometimes reboot.

In the Windows 7 safe mode everything runs fine, we can get to the desktop without problems. We also reinstalled both Windows 7 and Vista, both had the same problem. But it only appears when we put both m9750 cards in SLI mode, with just one card: no problem...

What could this be? We've tried pretty much every driver mentioned in this thread, and we kinda lost hope...

My laptop originally came with wireless connection. I have loaded the Intel driver but for some reason my wireless adaptor is not being recognized. Last year, I had to delete the partition on my computer and reload everything again. This is the only thing not working. Can anyone help me? I am not sure what is missing.

seems to be the secondary graohics card, at least I had the same symptoms.
I suggest to "bake" it - see here - http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware/385973-how-repair-your-dead-graphics-card-your-alienware.html
unfortunately I have to do this every 2 to 3 months, but it´s still working.

Would be better to open your own thread on this, as this one is for the drivers.

hello everyone this is my first post here

I have a m9750 with windows 7 x64 and my webcam doesn't work with the original drivers or drivers downloaded from this thread.
I've tried installing them as adminstrator but after the installation is complete no webcam is found. I've also completely removed it and tried to reinstall but also with no luck.
I know the webcam isn't broke because it has worked before on this version of windows and that I can still turn it on and off with the function key (it just says that the usb isn't recognized)

Does anyone know any solution for this?

    nvm fixed it myself
if anyone else has this problem you have to delete the unknown device (webcam) in your device manager and restart it using the fn + f4 keys. When the device manager recognizes a webcam simply install the driver

I've recently updated my m9750 to Windows 7 Ultimate, and now the webcam no longer works. I've found that this is a known problem, yet every attempt at updating the driver has failed.

Would anyone be able to point me to the correct solution?

Update: I've just spoken to Alienware (now Dell) and they want to charge me for support, without even knowing if there is a driver available. Jerks!

The first post was very helpful in getting my 9750 back up and running..My only issue is I can not get the drivers for the AlienFX board and I don't not have the Alienware restore disc anymore, it was lost in a house fire, along with all my account info etc. Does anyone know where I can download these? Dell has been of no help and doesn't seem to care since I bought this laptop in 2007.
