Not mine.
It was painted a cheap semi-glossy type paint.

but a ~5700 3DMark06 score not aat the standard resolution is still iffy to me, still can game well and really portable, but seeing the initial reaction it seemed like it was uber gaming. -
-
I wonder how this will be able to handle WoW because that game is more CPU intensive than GPU.
-
Well, I tore it apart to put a GTX 280 in it (for the good of the forum).
After that, it went back.
I just wasn't impressed with it. Next to the M17x, it was a joke and didn't make any sense to me (cheaper materials, almost the same size and weight, etc).
The screen and cpu were the only positives at the time, but now that most systems are going LED and core procs it lost most of it's luster, IMO. -
Same size and weight? M17x is 3 lbs more than an M15x! The designs are identical except the M15x uses lighter materials and in my opinion it's a smarter design than slapping on aluminum all over the system which is prone to dents and scratches. That metal also creates unnecessary weight, this isn't some light macbook where aluminum is a stylish feature. On a giant heavy laptop, each ounce matters. If I were a Dell designer, the M17x refresh would lose the aluminum entirely and it would be constructed exactly like the M15x except the bottom panel would be metal rather than plastic. -
And that is where we must agree to disagree
I usually put an IMO in my comments of the M15x... -
Hmm... From Gizmodo:
"But the best news, the news that got me legitimately excited, is that it will be out within a month.." -
I hope that it has a overclocking tool like Asus has for their Ul-80T and other machines. This machine looks so promising, it may be a bit overpriced but your not going to find this anywhere else, also lets see how much overclocking the card is, and its crazy how many people are on this fourm and that this machine has only debuted for a day lol.
-
with a 10-12 watt CPU that 5700 points is crazy good.
thats about the same as a 2.66 Ghz uMBP - go into the Apple forums and folks will swear that they run Crysis at high settings at 30+ fps (they are crazy of course). -
Do you think Dell(under their brand) bring out a version of this with maybe a lower gpu, like the GT305, or lower end at a slightly lower price. Wait nvm ion2 is suppose to work with CULV device this time around and that suppose to be based on the GT210. Hhmmmm.
-
wow, if its possibly coming this month i must resist the urge to spend my money (no envy 15 or UL30VT-A1 for now).
-
The price is already going to be bloody incredible, according to Cnet they'll sell for as little as $799...And there aren't exactly going to be many processor options, possibly even just the one. I think...
Actually they might well offer models with a lower GPU to achieve that 'as low as' pricetag however the GT335M won't be that much more costly anyway. -
I thought it was the 9600 GT in the MBP. No?
I dunno why I wanted, or thought about a lower gpu, but it could never hurt to have something priced like the Dell 11Z at around 450 with a dual core cpu and better gpu than the intel 4500hd. -
This is perfect! im thinking for my birthday i would get my parents to give me the money to buy the parts for a gaming pc i would build, but if i did that i would need a laptop for school (see sig for my laptop, i do everything on it including gaming) i was thinking i would just wait for nvidia ion 2 and get a netbook, but with this i can still play World of Warcraft at my friends at a good framerate!
this is by no means a main machine, and also i kind of like small screens. It lets you see everything without much eye movement -
What i read and this was on a chinies sites It could have a i5 cpu. But this was a few weeks ago and the only info they gave out was Dell 11 inch gaming machine basicly the spec listed on this tread.
-
=i still say core i3 i5 ... no way it fits a discrete and a integrated in a 11 inch ?
only if its on-die -
wonder if the bios would allow overclocking features for the processor hahaa.. if this reaches my country before june(if its released then) and costs less than 1000 local currency then im most probably going to get it.
im alittle confused over the intel processor ranges though. its said that the
m11x will get a core 2 processor but having an ulv processor that clocks around 1.3ghz would be equally ty wouldnt it? -
According to CNET, this thing's only got a 1.3 Ghz C2D. That's not nearly enough for most games, particularly RTS's. The CPU seems to be a huge deal breaker on this system. I can only hope CNET's wrong.
(Oh, and I'm back, for the 2-3 people that might recognize me)

I reconize you
I don't usually trust Cnet but they usually do have info first ... -
Good to be back again Moo
Anywho, looking at the system, I only see one real vent. With such a massive card, it would make sense that they'd have to opt for a lower power proc, but isn't the 1.3 GHz ULV chip pretty darn old by now? I wouldn't think they'd use it in a new system.
*Sigh, I 'spose we'll know more when Dell releases the full specs then. -
the card isn't massive. Its a mid to low range card :/
its prolly sodered to the Mobo as well -
Heh, true, but massive when put in such a small lappy
And yeah, components would likely be soldered into a system as small as this
I think I'll just save my pennies and go for a M15x. -
Finally a AW I can afford!
This looks like a winner in my book. -
odd is no ATI GPU .... Since Dell is buddie buddie with ATI ...
-
Ok, since I didn't see them anywhere and I wanted a comparison to my current 12.1" machine, I went ahead and figured out the Alienware M11x's physical dimensions (based on the prototype and some crude but reasonably accurate approximations).
The machine appears to be about 11.3" wide by 8.2" deep - EDIT-SEE BELOW. I do not know how thick it is. I found these numbers by measuring across the screen's diagonal (known to be 11.6") and using this as a conversion factor for the other lines. Since all of the lines I measured were approximately the same distance from the camera, this should be fairly accurate.
-EDIT- Just to point out to anyone that may find this, the official dimensions are as follows:
11.25" x 9.19" x 1.29"
The 8.2" measurement did not take into account the size of the hinge, the non-rectangular shape of the machine, or the amount which the chassis sticks out below the screen when closed. These three things extra 1" on the official specs. -
Good job! Thanks for taking the time to do that.
I have also heard from folks at CES that it is much smaller and thinner than it looks in photos. -
Apparently it'll actually be fairly thin, even getting close to how thin the average netbook is. That's what one of the hands-on reviews says though, can't remember which one.
Nice job approximating these. I never thought to do so myself or I would have -
Yea, this article has it close to the ASUS EeePC 12.1, you are spot on, I think the max thickness on the 12.1 is about 1.3in:
http://blog.laptopvideo2go.com/2010/01/08/ces-tiny-gamer-dell-announces-alienware-m11x-11-6-incher/ -
is this any better than Asus UL30vt?
LoL i guess the M11x beats the crap out of all CULV notebooks and netbooks LoL -
I wouldn't even care if it was 2 inches. The problem with me taking my M17 to school and back is not so much that the M17 is heavy, but I can't find a good laptop backpack that will carry and protect the M17 AND carry all my schoolbooks. The closest I've seen is the JanSport Lap Station but the pocket wasn't designed for M17 thickness...it might squeeze in but I don't wanna waste money on it in case...
But if I had an M11x the dimensions would make it much easier to fit it in a bag with my schoolbooks too even if the M11x is like 2 inches thick.
But of course the thinner the better.(provided they don't take cooling away in the process
)

New video. I think he changes to IGP during the video.

It looks pretty slim to me.
Again, I wonder if you can simultaneously put more than 1 color on the keyboard. -
Thanks for this! Nice size.
Any Mod out there that can move this (or merge) with the M11x discussion thread? I don't want to jump around
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=448975 -
Obviously a 1.3GHz C2D isn't exactly powerful but it WILL suffice for quite a lot of games. Their testing gives 30FPS in MW2 on high apparently and in HD, and 50fps in Crysis (although they don't give a setting value), and any laptop that gets those framerates can clearly handle games (even any notebook that handles Crysis at 50fps on Low @ 800x600 will handle most games even if in low details without a problem) -
Even if this laptop will not have true gaming power, I beleive it will still be very poplar and that perhaphs later generation laptops based on this idea might actually deliver a good core2duo processor (most games still use 2 cores anyway).
-
If the processor's overclockable then there's not much reason to be concerned. From what I hear it can be pushed to about 1.7GHz which is plenty for most games.
-
Why wouldn't there be CPU options available, as in a more powerful one?
-
1.7 on 2 cores? then it's perfect i remember runing supremme commander on a centrino 1.7 (banias ya a single core) with an ati 9600 pro mobility try to find a game that's more cpu intensive then that and it ran fine
-
This might be good for 'social' gamers, although I wonder how the details will be displayed on such a small screen, especially when playing a shootergame (wonder if it will run cod4). Even 13 inch aint that good for a decent gaming experience, still I respect the alienware engineers courage to try this.
-
Well I thought there are far too many M11x threads running around and it's annoying having to change between them all, so why not just have one thread?
Let's make the life of the moderators easier and stick to this thread.
So...let's discuss? -
I'm definately picking one up for when I travel. The M17X will become my desktop, it's simply to large to carry around. Although I will for certain events. Maybe we can get the mods to combine all the threads here too.
-
It's pretty much the same scenario for me. I can't find a backpack big enough for my M17 and all my school books, it's that simple. The battery life and weight aren't a problem for me, or at least not for the time being. -
I'm assuming you haven't seen the videos of the m11x playing CODMW2.
-
You want to solve the problem of too many M11x threads by creating another? Why not just have the mods merge them?
-
-
-
Common what?
What is this sense that you speak of? -
I dont know guys, but I feel this will have at least a core i3 i5. I know that there are lots of core 2 duo laptops that can switch graphics but this is the "new feature" of the new core i5 and core i3.
This laptop will be very popular.
