Connecting pin 7 to 3.3v through a 10k resistor, yes. You'll find the 333mhz mod much more RAM friendly with most kits passing- only the worse clocking memory fail reaching the required 1000mhz. Instead, you have to worry more about the CPU itself as that can be unstable due to the higher clocks and lower voltage. In the event you have an unstable CPU, you need to do a VID mod.

    Hi Davy

This might be answered before; do I need to cut/seperate pin-7 from the board ?

For the 333mhz mod, you do not cut pin 7, you need to connect it to 3.3v through a 10k resistor.

The only mod for the SLG where you have to cut a pin is the 266mhz mod.

Yes, you have to enable the overclock option in BIOS if you're doing the 333mhz mod. Do not disable overclock mode as it will enable 400mhz FSB and it is next to impossible to stabilize as RAM would be running at 1600mhz CL6.

    went to radio shack today.

grabbed a dip-switch (8 switches) and some ultra thin insulated wire. i will be wiring up all 3 PLL points (a, b & c aka pins 2, 7 & 20) along with the 1.1v mod. this will allow me to change these variables with out disassembling my laptop. (only have to take off the bottom cover). also ill have 4 switches left for when a GPU and or chipset volt mod is figured out.

    pics ether today or tomorrow

Always great answers DavyGT. Thanks. So if my math is right, 2 on the forum have completed this mod with no voltage change necessary. some guy, you needed the VID mod, right? Probably a 50/50 proposition.

This is why I wanted the SLG TME mod to work so bad. Being able to adjust the frequency to the point of stability would make things so much easier. Jealous of you ICS owners. :( I pulled pin 14 down with 50 ohms to ground and never got a TME unlock. Would you guys suppose the pin would have to be cut, pulled lower with say 10 ohms, or there is no unlocking it in SLG?

Anyone who is planning to open up in the next few days willing to mess with pin 14?

Sounds like a good time! Can't wait to see how this turns out. How thin of wire did they have? The radio shack by me has only down to 24 AWG which is WAY to big for any pin soldering.

I noticed an additional 600-800mW power consumption with 2.07Ghz. Still 5hrs battery life.

Are you using SetFSB to overclock? It won't work because the PLL isn't compatible with the ICS9LPRS365. Instead, you need SetPLL or manually enter the desired clockspeed with SetFSB.

How much of a performance increase should i see for bc2 in comparison from 1.6 to 1.9-2.0? Or any cpu intensive game. I am kind of keen to do this if i get a decent increase however i dnt want to screw my m11x up :/

I ran into freezing also, then I had to restart the machine :/ As someone else told me a couple pages back, try stepping the speed up rather than going directly to the desired speed. Since I made that adjustment with the setpll, I've had no issues of it freezing.

    SLG 1.73GHz SUCCESS!

Just did my 1.73GHz SLG mod by cutting pin 2. Man those pins are SMALL.

Couldn't find my magnifying glass so bought a cheap $5 5x one at my local drug store, lol. It didn't cut as easily as I thought. I was cutting slowly, then all of a sudden the knife gave way. I thought the blade loosened in the grip, but looked like the pin was cut. Air sprayed it, closed it up, and it booted right away. But it was at 1.3GHz. :(

So shut down, opened it all up again, and basically bent the lower part of the pin away, must have still been making minor contact. Closed it up then it wouldn't boot at all!

Well turns out my 2x4GB G.Skill couldn't manage the CAS6 apparently. Put in the original 2x2GB Samsung that came with the M11x and it booted fine. Running Prime95 RAM test right now and seems stable as a rock.

One minor casualty however is some of the keys on my keyboard don't work now. I went and reattached the ribbon cables a couple times and still a few keys won't work. USB keyboard works fine though. Anyone know if I can get a cheap replacement keyboard? Or do I have to go through Dell. I'm reluctant to claim it under warranty unless they'll just let me replace it.

Maybe you screwed the KB down too tight? try loosening some of the screws under the battery.

I did that too, with no success.

I may call anyhow and see if I can get it replaced. Of course they'll probably want to send a tech to look at it, but I'd rather just replace it myself.

edit: yikes! $85 for a replacement keboard shipped.

i had the same problem, did you accidentally screw in the bigger screws into the keyboard? if you did then it got damaged. you have to put in the exact screws exactly where they were located last.

I think I put one larger screw in. :(

But I called Dell, and since they took forever because they couldn't find info on my service tag, the guy finally said "what's the problem and how can we help"?

I said my keyboard is fubar, and he said he'd have a tech out right away. I asked if he could just mail it direct to me then he said ok. So I should have a replacement keyboard in the mail in a day or two. Nice service. Doesn't hurt to ask.

oh yeah, thats exactly what i had to do too. very good service. i had the keyboard the next day. shipped from chicago to Des Moines Iowa. only a few hundred miles. although il ask to put in the keyboard myself next time, the guy stripped out the case for one screw... his hands were extremely shaky. now i need to figure out how to fix that after i do the 2ghz mod on friday.

Oh, it sounded like I can put it in myself, at least that's what I asked. If they meant otherwise, I'll just say that's what I understood. I did ask to clarify if there would be instructions to return the defective keyboard, and he said yes.

Thanks. That will be my next step, doing volt mod and overclock. I'm not going to bother with 2.0GHz CPU because I don't have the tools, skills, or patience for something like that. Although I'm sure that would be a good boost. Maybe if I can find someone to do it for me for a case of beer or something. :D

virtual operating systems wont work, because it needs access to the computers components, not the virtual components. also this will work on windows vista x86 and windows 7x86. it just has to be a windows 32bit OS

You were lucky as the knife couldn't have slipped and taken out adjacent pins.

Did you use any of the long screws in the battery bay screw holes? Using the long screws in the middle holes is instant death to the G and H keys.

    Fixed that for you.

I'm sorry but they're not the right chips. The first image is an Ethernet port controller and the second image shows a monitor mux and combo memory card/Firewire port controller.

    Thanks guys.

100, 133, 166, 200, 266, 300, 333 & 400mhz. well technically.... i only ran one power wire so i can only power one switch at a time cause if i close 2 or more they just bridge. which i thought of but did think they acted that way. so i need to find 2 more power sources to get full functionallty of the the dip switch.

I have no clue what the gage the wire is. its call "magnetic wrapping wire"? I guess for small motors? it was only $5 at radioshack for a spool that will last me the rest of my life.

Sorry Davy. i dont see anything else that is close to what those controller kind of chips look like. there are a few super small ones but they are alover the mobo so i dont think thats it ether. i think i counted 6 of them and you cant read what they say.

Yeah, I used one of the long screws by accident. Wups. I did get on the phone with Dell / AW support though, and because they couldn't get their systems straight they basically just asked what I wanted and said they'd ship the keyboard out right away. Didn't even explain the situation. Of course this was after nearly 45 minutes back and forth on hold. :D

So far with O/C CPU and non-volt modded GPU 0.9v, I'm getting 3DMark06 about 7200. GPU 560 / Mem 850 / Shader 1380. Seems my RAM is the weak point here.

Just let me know. id say $50 and you handle S/H. but i still dont know how i feel about doing mods for the public... dont get me wrong, its not the work im afraid of but im not tring to deal with someone trying to get over on me by sending me a DOA laptop and saying its my fault (not saying that you would). the only way to protect me from that is to set up a disclamer. but who wants to send a laptop to a guy who basically says if your laptop gets toasted im not paying for it? lol
