Heh. I'm waiting for DavyGT to come back with a GPU volt mod for the R1... so good luck. Unless of course you have the R2, at which point my entire comment just became moot.
I myself have considered doing the pin mod (I have an SLG), but I have no practice with a soldering gun and don't really think that's the place to start. Cheapest I can find somebody to do it for is around 80 dollars, which is just a little higher than i'm interested in right now.

he does...

Currently link removed
-
Looks like I'm going to have to VID mod mine today also.
-
._. ive got te R1, yes the link was removed. I guess I'll have to wait too
-
same here, he's a bit busy so he doesnt have the r1 mod anymore until he remakes it
unless someone else saved the files and has them? -
Great Success!! Now to stress test.

you can upload screen fsb ram and timings?
-
Is this what you're looking for? My HyperX still hasn't shown up, so I'm running the stock ram ATM.

nice work bus dr1v3r.
-
nice work man!
-
nice!
-
As soon as my ram comes in and I finish overclocking the gpu I'll put some benches up. I can say without a doubt that difference in gaming is obvious. I did this mod just so I could try to make Assassins Creed 2 playable and it is. I went from averaging 15-20 and maxing around 35 frames. Now I average 25-30 frames and max at around 50 frames now. Much smoother and a big thanks to everyone who figured this out!
-
Now if only I had a soldering iron
Anyway, bus dr1v3r, what speed was the RAM that you ordered? -
I ordered this one, Click Me! If that was the wrong one somebody let me know, it was the only HyperX kit I could find on Newegg.
-
Well after completely bricking my old mobo cutting away too much of the pin I ordered a new mobo from ebay.
$150 delivered to the UK.
Replacing the mobo entails removing every part of the laptop other than the speakers but I found it to be a quick, easy and fun job. I followed the very clear alienware instruction video
Alienware M11x Teardown **READ SAFETY PRECAUTIONS PRIOR TO REPLACING PARTS** (Official Video) - YouTube
And the m11x documentation on the dell website and I had the lappy up and running again in about 30mins.
I'm really impressed with the build design and the supporting documentation you get with alienware. You can literally fix any part yourself quickly and easily.
Interestingly the GPU cooler on my new mobo (Same old SU7300 R1) is a different chinese 'nagem' (or something?) cooler instead of the old AVC one. Either way this GPU seems to be an absolute beast. I've got 940mhz on the memory clock so far with no artifacting. -
i bought the 4Gb set of that RAM and i couldn't boot @ 2Ghz...
the old HyperX didnt work out for me ether...
but the stock RAM and my generic GSkill work just fine. -
I'll give it a try and if it doesn't cut it I'll ship it back to 'em! Wow, I wish that we could get CAS 7 support, who knows where we could push this little machine.
-
yea... would be nice...
ive tried buying a bunch of different sets of performance RAM to push this thing past the 333mhz pin mod but nothing seemed to work. the Kingston brand seemed to be especially problematic. -
That'll be a while. I'm taking a hiatus until November at the earliest. It helps if the R1 GPU voltage regulator is known too. some_guy and I have looked for it in the past without success. I went wrong by ignoring components that looked like these.
-
i have a friend that just recently bought a M11x and wants me to do the pinmod for him here in the near future. he also has a nice DSLR. i'll get some better high rez pics of the full board this time around. my droid just doesn't cut it when it comes to that type of stuff. -
I'm trying to talk with some other people about possibilities locked inside the BIOS over at bios-mods forums. Here is the link if anyone else wishes to join the conversation. -> Link
-
Awsome, im curious to see what options are revealed in that hidden tab...
-
Yea. due to DDR3 limits we NEED a modded Bios to support higher timings & different Ratios. this will allow much higer OCing since we do already have the ability to volt mod. the main bottleneck after that would be the chipset. but i would assume the new timings would remove some stress off the chipset. we have seen this chipset perform at speeds of 1600mhz (in other laptops) so with that in mind CPU OCing to speeds of 2.4ghz would not be out of the question.
Also if the modded Bios could support the correct multi (6.5) we could see more speed there too. ( 2.6ghz!!!!) -
I'm certainly not ready to stop @ 2.0ghz and I would like to know what our options are. What kind of ratios would we be interested in(if its even possible to change them)? I will also ask about the multiplier. That 2.4ghz has my mouth watering.
In other words I need to know what questions I need to ask. -
It's not possible to support the correct multiplier with Overclock mode on as it effectively BSEL mods the CPU which forces the chipset to lock to the lowest multiplier in hardware (6x).
From 2Ghz it's possible to climb to 2.4Ghz or 2.6Ghz. Neither has been achieved due to RAM limitations. You should ask if there are any RAM divider options hidden. -
Alright, well we will see what he has found and I'll ask him to look for anything that will loosen our RAM constraints.
-
totally. but my point kinda was IF the Bios was modded to allow different timings/ratios we wouldn't even need OC mode.
-
anything that will allow for different ratios or timings should be a huge deal on how fast we can make this lil guy. assuming i got about a 1k bump in my 3Dmark score from 1.6ghz to 2.0ghz, one would assume a max possible OC of 2.6ghz (400mhz base clock x 6.5 multi ?) would get the avg user around 8500-9500 3Dmark06. frankly id poop my pants!
also if he were to be able to get a setting that allowed for BUS speed adjustment ppl would no longer need to open their laptops for OCing. it could all be done thru the Bois lie the R2.
i would happily donate to a Bios mod that had some or all of these performance tweaks.
-
I see. Just remember, modding the BIOS is simply revealing options already present but not available to the user. The memory ratio options may not be present at all seeing as Dell could have enabled them.
-
Gotcha. i hope for our sake some of the goodies are in there. i am happy withthe results we have gotten so far but some extra Bios love would be great!
-
When I flash a new bios will it default to non-OC mode? I should really install some DIP switches like some guy.
-
i want your bios mods form my r1
-
some guy is it possible to send my mx11 r1 to be pinmod and Heatsink mod?
send me some info. if this is possible.
My mx11 runs 52c at gamming time and normal temps at 40c (GPU)
(CPU) never goes over 45c but goes as low as 36c....
running bios AO5 with it overclocked at 1.73... (enabled)
Processor: Genuine Intel(R)CPU u7300 @ 1.30GHz - 1.73Ghx
(RAM) 4.00 GB -
to be honest those temps are perfectly fine. so i wouldn't worry about the heatsink mod.
as far as the pinmod goes ive done many for friends and forum members. but my schedule is a bit full right now. if you are considering it send me a PM. -
I got my HyperX today and wanted to report back that I'm perfectly stable so far! I still need to re-run the stress tests to make sure. I did notice that my GPU overclock isn't as good as it was, but that could be caused by the fact that I've changed to EVGA Precision from MSI Afterburner. Either way I just ran my first bench and talk about hitting the nail on the head.

nice!
welcome to the 8K club!
hard work and patients pay off. -
where do you download the gpu mod for the m11xr1?
-
Are you talking about the modded bios to increase the voltage? If so, then here. If you are just talking about overclocking, download MSI Afterburner or EVGA Precision.
-
yep that link was it, thanks, I see that he just recently re-uploaded it, it was gone for a bit there.
now my question is: with this mod how do temps change if they do? and what are the volt differences? like before and after? -
It goes from .90 to .95 volts. I didn't notice any significant difference in the temps.
-
Attention future pinmodders! If you are planning on doing a pin mod soon do you think you could make a video of you doing it? It would really help out
-
but a major difference in overclocking I take it? or noticeable I mean, not major.
-
ehh, not major, i got my core and shader clock up about 15 points and my memory about 10.
-
not to highjack the thread but with the gpu volt mod I'm stable at 600/800/1400 I've heard of even higher numbers from other people on here
Also I'm very interested in a bios cpu mod like previously discussed -
To make a video would be kinda hard. Stuff is so small, you would need a crazy awesome cammera.
-
how about those USB microscopes? Presumably, some of them must come with software that enables video recording in addition to the standard image capture feature.
-
How much do those cost? Also, I'm a little doubtful that someone here will just so happen to have one of them and an r1 (and just so happened to come across this post). However, I wouldn't mind if someone decided to record their pin modding experience
.
-
I have access to HD usb microscopes/cameras....
I use them when doing SMT work on boards.
If someone wishes to donate a m11x I won't have a problem
-
Lol. Defy the odds!
How to pinmod and further overclock the M11x R1 (SLG= Hardmod only)
