I log into Steam to play it all the time, but when my internet is out, like during storms and really cloudy days, when I tell it to start in offline mode, it just errors and shuts Steam down completely, immediately after clicking start in offline mode. If I'm away from home with no internet, which happens pretty regularly, I can't play New Vegas due to this problem. I didn't know you could turn on Offline Mode permanently. I will give that a try. Thanks for the help.

Offline mode must be activated while online and games must be fully updated at the time. So if your internet connection isn't always available just leave it in offline mode unless you need to update or play online. Remember to reactivate offline mode when you're done in case you are unexpectedly without a connection in the future.

Just in case it's still not clear:

Sweet. Thanks guys. On another note, if the GPU is selected as discrete only in the BIOS, what would keep us from running the newest Invidia drivers on our M11x's without waiting for Dell to do whatever they do with them? I've always had old junk PC's and this is the first one I've ever had that I would be upset if it fried. Just curious. These forums are so huge that finding information even with the search is difficult.

No problems, you just lose the ability to switch to the intel for battery life, etc.
-
man, the later levels of bulletstorm really chucked a spaz: the framerates were all over the place. now that i've finished it i've uninstalled it cos of the crappy fps instability.
-
i had no framerate issues what so ever. even going from 1024x768 to 1920x1080 it feels just as smooth.
-
i was running it lower at 1024x576 and the later levels started raping the M11x.
crysis 2 runs fine at 1024x576 by anything higher and my m11x just struggles. -
thats odd, iv never gone below 25 fps on any game iv played.
-
I find it strange considering you have an R2. If I have to go below 1280x720, I won't play the game, and 90% work at 1360x768 at usually medium to highs.
-
why would you not play the game if you have to lower the res? you barely see any difference from 1366x768 to 1024x768 ...
-
Maybe you barely see a difference, but to me it's night and day.
1366x768 or death. That's what I say...
-
towards the very end of crysis 2 it drops to about 18-19fps (when OC'd) but only for very short time.
The game still looks great at 1024x576 and it's giving me a more stable fps above 30fps. it really comes down to the game. the m11x totally rapes dead space 2 and mass effect 2 but get raped on crysis 1. you'd think because they're the same spec that we would all get the same results but funnily enough we don't. -
fyro11, are you using Throttlestop? I know thegh0sts isn't.
-
tried it could never see the results though, plus the OC just kept BSOD'ing on me so back to stock it is.
-
Makes a world of difference in CPU dependent games and necessary for post 166 overclocking. A stock i7 with Throttlestop is better then a fully OC'ed i7 without it.
-
I would rather play a game at Medium/Low settings at 1366x768 native resolution than get a few more FPS playing in a non-native resolution.
There are a few older games, like Tiberium Wars & Diablo II, which won't play in the native resolution.... and I guess that's okay... but yeah, if I have a game and can't play it in the native resolution. Chances are I won't play that game. The screen is small enough as it is... playing low-res on this thing is almost a digital travesty if you ask me. -
but then the fps can jump quite a bit i had crysis 2 on 720p high and it dropped to as low as 19 fps even when overclocked.
-
Imo, your limited OC may be the reason you're not seeing much difference with TS enabled. Most if not all people see a difference.

I saw someone posted that they ran Fallout 3 on a 1080p TV with zero loss of FPS. I hooked my M11x up to my 47" Phillips with FRAPS running and it dropped to 5-6 fps. The custom settings I use in-game at 720p give me 35-60 fps on the laptop screen. Is there something I'm doing wrong or overlooking?
-
i game at 1024x768, the difference between that and 1366x768 is 342 pixels. and barely any quality loss, id rather run at 1024x768 and be running max settings then be running native res and have to lower things. also, im pinmodded and therefor will have a different performance then most people.
i believe im the only one who has done the 1.73ghz pinmod. -
Test of the press version of the Witcher 2 (the game I'm waiting for the most ):
Wied?min 2 - relacja na ?ywo!
In short - max. 25 fps on medium details - laptop Asus G73JH , Core i7 Radeon 5870.
So it looks like no chance for a game on M11x R1 or 2 ???
ps
Please correct the error in the title -
I don't normally SP RPG games but this one I am really looking forward too. I hope it can run at least medium settings like the G73JH... The 5870 is DX11 is maybe its poor performance is due to that... I think the 335M GT forces DX10 which gives better performance not sure though..
-
Yes, only in so far as I know The Witcher 2 will not support DX11.
The only hope is - a better optimization for nV . -
They were probably running it at 1080p as well so there's maybe hope for us at medium settings at 720p... maybe. Even at medium settings, that game looks pretty freaking awesome though. Perhaps medium with lighting set to low will not be too bad for us.

I just bought Audiosurf via Steam for €4.99. Everyone should check it out, there's a demo (albeit short), but the game is amazing.
It's like a mix between WipeOut on the original PlayStation and Guitar Hero. Check it out. -

Does anybody have any experience with Fallout 3 on external monitor/TV at 1080p? New Vegas runs exactly the same outputting to 47" 1080p TV as running on the M11x screen, but Fallout 3 drops to 5 or 6 fps.
-
at least some old games like splinter cell chaos theory runs great on the m11x getting 90-100fps with SM3, HDR, etc.
-
Just got this. Have you been able to get it to work with the 335? Whitelisting doesn't seem to work for me, and it crawls on the intel.
Edit: nevermind, it works now. =) -
Can someone recommend settings for Crysis?
I have an r2 with:
I5 Processor - Not OC'd
8gb Ram -
+1
also, if there are forum goers out there that have bought portal 2 let us know how it fairs on the R2!
-
Dragon Age 2 runs utterly smooth on the R1 at 1366x768 with DX9 settings.
-
I got borderlands and it works great, all settings high, 8xAA, dinamic shadows on, 1366x768 and it runs 30-45 FPS
Without shadows and some medium settings (the game still looks awesome) it runs above 60 fps (62-65fps) -
Apologies if this may have been asked before, but I'm still relatively a noob with regards to PC gaming specs after owning my M11x R1 for a year now.
I'd really love to play the Witcher 2 when it releases next month, but obviously the R1 doesn't meet the min reqs as it's OC'd processor (1.7ghz) is behind by .5ghz and I'm not sure how it's Nvidia GT335m chip matches up to a GF 8800.
Basically my question is should I even bother with trying to run The Witcher 2 on my M11x R1? The game's min reqs are found at the bottom right here: GOG.com
Thanks! -
what nvidia driver do you use
-
if you're getting portal 2 please share your findings on the game and how it runs on the m11x.
-
It seems to me that it can be played in 720p and medium - low detail. The only question is whether the game will start. W1 has not started on the cards without a minimum 128 MB VRAM.
As for the requirements - for the Two Worlds 2 - 8800 is in a minimum , and the game goes on R1 at maximum details (DX9 mode).
Another thing that Two Worlds 2 is on multiple platforms, while The Witcher 2 is a PC exlusive for today . -
Apparently another round of the Age of Empires Online Home Page | Age of Empires Online beta invites went out, and I got one. Decided to give this game a go on the Alienware M11x R2.
Long story short, the game ran very smoothly at max settings with 8x AA. I think because they went with such a cartoony art style, the game doesn't take much oomph to play.
Anywho... I made it through the first couple missions with no lockups or freezes. Using the beta 267 driver and eVGA downclocked. -
Has anyone played Crysis 2 on their M11X? I know its a very demanding game but i love the storyline of the Crysis series and I would like to know if the M11X can play it on even medium to low settings.....
Thanks! -
i play on high.
-
Crysis 2 runs perfect on m11x...
-
crysis 2 runs great.....if i chuck the resolution down to 1024x576 a good balance of resolution and fps stability on stock speeds.
-
crysis 2 is one where a good GPU OC will pay dividends
-
true though i have no clue on how to find a stable GPU OC so stock will just have to do.
-
its pretty easy, just takes a lot of trial and error.
since iv had the Vmod on my gpu i can hit 605/911/1500. -
does anyone use steam mover and have moved installed games onto an external HDD? does it still work once you remove then plug the drive back in?
EDIT: I just gave it a try and to my surprise it does work for USB with hardly any latency. time to get a 32gb stick! -
Who wants to speculate if Battlefield 3 will run on the R2.
I'm thinking "low" settings for sure. -
Huh? Reducing the gamma <1 in DA2 makes the game stutter, very peculiar indeed.
-
I think at least console levels, NEVER like those videos, not even the consoles...
-
I bought max payne 2 and the game wont load up. I am running the 260.99 drivers. Anyone having this problem? or have any fixes?
