I've been gaming on consoles pretty much my whole life and my M11x is the first PC I've had that will play something besides Solitaire and Minesweeper. I would like to try out some RTS games, but don't want one that's so complex that I get frustrated with it and quit. I also don't want to drop $50 on Starcraft II only to realize that the RTS genre is not for me. Any suggestions?

Dawn Of War 1. Dawn of War 2. Company Of Heroes.

If you don't like those you'll never like an RTS. Beware, Dawn Of War 1 does *not* run widescreen. It's too old a game I guess. If there's a way to do it I haven't found it anyway.

The newer expansions for DoW1 like Soulstorm support widescreen ingame without hacks.

Is anyone playing Sims 3? How are you handling the disc issue?

I just ordered an m11x for myself and my wife and she is a huge Sims fan and I need to figure out how to get her playing.

The digital version requires no disc to play. Amazon sells it cheap. The disc version either needs an external disc drive or networked disc drive to install and play (external disc drive only).

Try the SC2 demo. Should show you enough to let you know if you like it. SC2 is deep, but not overly complex, Blizzard does a great job making their games accessible.

If you have the retail copy you can input the CD key into the EA Download Manager. It's what I did.

Gaming question for users of the model R1 - whether anyone played Call of Juarez Bound in Blood?
I've tried various settings , and can not be played even at the lowest . Similarly Naild. Is this a problem with the Chrome Engine (SU7300 - too weak). Or maybe the problem lies elsewhere. I'm on the 266xx graphics driver from Dell.
Also, Test Drive Unlimited 1 - could not be played due to the choppy animation. Thanks for the info ;)

I have the R2, but Call of Juarez BiB runs great with most settings in high, so I guess even the R1 can do it, from what you said, is not running in the Nvidia card....

Hey guys, sorry fo asking this, but I honestly didn't want to read the whole thing. Anyone on here got an i7 R2 that plays Black Ops and Modern Warfare 2? I wanted to know what setting you use and wht FPS you get. I will (hopefully) have an i7 R2 soon, and just wanted to know what to expect. I'll be OC;ing, too. The one I MAY get hits 166MHz at least and I'll do the Vmod.

Yes most likely , but I wonder what kind of software problem can it be ? I think I tried everything ( physx cpu-gpu-def. , powermizer switch on-off, clean startup , run in dx9 mode , with patch - without patch , very low settings ofcourse too) and still I have got max. 18 fps - no matter what settings I used . It is a little strange thing - like I said other games runs good . It looks like I will be forced to play it on another system . I hope this is just a single event .

is there anything in the background thats eating at your cpu?
on my R1 i have windows highly optimized. using less then 400mb on idle, and 0% cpu usage.

    gpu overclocked to 605/926/1520. @0.95v.
and cpu pin-modded at official 1.73ghz. not 1.6

My windows is not as well optimized as yours ;). I have 39 processes after startup , around 1GB RAM consumption, cpu idle usage 0-2 % .

    gpu - stock clocks
cpu - overclocking by bios - so 1,6 ghz

    6456 - 06 3d marks only once after a windows fresh install
    6210 - 6280 usualy
    5350 - 5400 with cpu 1,3 ghz

I have an R1 with the CPU oc'd to 1.6 in BIOS, .95v modded BIOS flashed with the GPU oc'd to 550/1325/875 and it runs maxed out on everything in the low 30's. Easily the best looking game thats ever been on my M11x. I think it's all down to optimization.

I'm also running the latest Dell version drivers, 263.xx.

ajslay and suggestions on what processes to kill off? I usually use CCcleaner to stop unwanted start up items.

Also is there any software that will close all non essential windows process just before you start a game?

    Cheers

theres guides on what processes are safe to turn off, i dont use them tho because i know what to use and what to turn off. google "safe to disable windows processes"
i dont use any software to achieve this, i run no anti virus, and i use services.msc and msconfig to tweak windows. and i use Ccleaner to clean the registry. and thats it.

BTW guys, it really doesn't matter how many processes are loaded as long as CPU usage is more or less 0% (maybe bounce to 2 or 3% periodically). Otherwise they're just consuming RAM, and if you have enough RAM for those processes and your games, it won't affect performance. Not to mention that Windows 7 uses as much RAM as it can as kind of a "smart cache" so it doesn't have to load it from your physical drive (Hard Drive or SSD). It dumps that from memory as soon as higher priority stuff comes in though and needs the RAM.

rofl, you might be. but i figure that newcomers would want to know, and might not know what pin modding is. the difference on how im getting a higher score then they are on benchmarks.

    Hi everyone,

I'm obviously new around here, but this has got to be the most active m11x forum that I've come across so I'll be here to stay :)

I was wondering whether or not BRINK for PC will run on my M11x R1. I'm aware that the game will probably have to run on the lowest settings. I have OC to 1.6ghz and I have 4gb ram and the 335m GT

Has anyone played any game close to these requirements?

    Thanks,
    Ben

That should exceed minimium spec: Core 2 Duo E6600 / 8600 GT

I have an old computer with an Athlon64 X2 4400+ and 8600 GT and it scores only a 4560 3DMark06, and I know the R3 scores over 8000. Still will probably have to use minimal detail.

    i5-2537 gets passmark of about 1100, where Athlon64 X2 4400+ gets 1200, and E6600 gets 1500.

So CPU is a bit weaker, but not by much, and GPU exceeds 8600 GT by a decent amount.

Every game I have tried works perfectly with these exceptions:

    Just Cause 2-Driver errors
    Mafia 2-Extreme lag, completely unplayable
    Bioshock-Driver errors
Occassionally crysis, when I change graphics options it says it stopped working

I've heard the opposite, however people are complaining about poor performance on Ati cards in the heaps. A number of the brink team have racked up over 100-200hours each of gameplay on Steam the past 2 weeks before release (I'll find the thread in a bit, need to wade through the heaps of posts). A reassurance it's actually been tested before release, compared to most games coming onto the market recently.

Though I guess we will have to wait and see till Friday for the EU.

Hah and I am playing the first one right now, while I tip here. I'm waiting for this game since it's announcement, very anxious for it! Btw, I will try to maximize the settings on my M11x o///. With overclocks on CPU and GPU I think that I will risk it, I'm like this, risk or nothing. If I can play it with 20fps it will be fine for me.

    I'm more "graphics wh@re", I admit I am, than "fps wh@re".

Really looking forward to this as well. I have the R1 and hope it will run smooth with low settings at the very least. The CPU is really all that is holding it back.

Oh and how do you set a game to be in 720p instead of 1080p?
