Yeah getting around 40fps average - it dips sometimes though especially when you're going to new areas

Feels like it might be CPU limited - both cores of the M11x showing quite high CPU usage during the game

General questions here, I've been a bit out of touch with PC gaming for a couple of years. What have I missed? What do you recommend? Main genres of interest are racing, FPS and RTS, also quite like the odd low budget gem e.g. Minecraft. Not interested multiformat game so much as I have a 360.

Got my M11x R1 last Friday. Right now splitting my time between GTR2 and Dawn of War 2.

Is Starcraft 2 worthwhile? I enjoyed the original but never really played the multiplayer, and I've heard the campaign on SC2 is a bit weird?

Just by what you typed it sounds like a heat issue (laptop shutting itself down to effectively cool off) although I havn't experienced this myself with Metro 2033.
At any point during gaming did the fan opening on the bottom of the case get blocked? Metro 2033 absolutely crushes the 335m with a constant 100% GPU load so any drop in air flow will cause the GPU temperatures to sky rocket.

tried Modern Warfare 2 on my M11x R2 last night and it played like a charm. I had to disable antialiasing (it was enabled by default) but I'm getting about 40-60 FPS consistantly... even during heavy explosions. This is multiplayer, mind you.

Single player performance was ... a little less great. It hovered around 30-50, and there was some visible choppiness in parts. I'm not really that into the single player anyway, so it wasn't a huge deal for me. Turning off shadows seemed to help a little.

This was unoverclocked, Core i7 w/ 4GB DDR.

Unoverclocked, lik not overclocked. Hah. My m11x R1 plays MW2 amazingly, all on, texture extra, AA 4x, about 60-85FPS solid.

So how much love you think the r1 will have with battlefield 3?

I think it might, just might be able to do it on the lowest specs possible (till I can get something that can run it on highs)

Seems a pin modded r1 meets the minimum specs

OS: Windows Vista or Windows 7
    Processor: Core 2 Duo @ 2.0GHz
    RAM: 2GB
Graphic card: DirectX 10 or 11 compatible Nvidia or AMD ATI card.
    Graphics card memory: 512 MB
Hard drive: 15 GB for disc version or 10 GB for digital version

dont dis the R1, if it meets the requirements then it has a good chance of running well. hell, i run games all the time that require a higher end processor and they have always run well. duke nukem forever runs like a dream on my r1 completely maxed out. a modded r1 is faster then a stock r2 by far.

Runs perfectly fine on my R2. Only issue i have with it is optimus never detected it to use the 335m. In fact. i whitelisted everything i possibly could and it didnt help. the only thing i could do to make sure the 335m kicked in was to turn the whole computer to high performance graphics card as primary.

    Anyone have the same problem?

i wonder how the new alice in wonderland game from EA fairs?

EDIT: the system requirements for it is pretty low and i mean it only needs a 1.6ghz dual core and a 7xxx series card so i am hoping the m11x can handle it on medium to high settings.

OK, I managed to get a hold of Alice: Madness Returns and i have it installed and here's a few things i have noticed:

    - the game seems to be capped at 31fps: no matter what settings i tried it would not go passed 31fps (will sometimes blip 32fps). changing resolutions does not alter the fps. i received the same fps on my desktop so it's definitely capped.

    - the game will drop fps if the physX is on medium.

so i have the game running at:

    1280x720
    no AA
    no 3D
motion blur on or off (makes no difference)
post-processing on or off (makes no difference)
    dynamic shadows on
    physx set to low

me think physX is the reason why the fps drops. set it to low and it won't.

EDIT: it seems you can "uncap" the fps in an ini file. i will post the video of it being capped then another with a higher cap (probably try 60fps as the cap).

EDIT2: here's the link of the game running without the modded ini file...

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B_R8PHpj1Co

even though i have raised the fps cap to 60 it still slows down at the same point...every single time!

Has anyone played Oblivion on an m11x R1 and if so, how well does it run?

Also if anyone would happen to know, does the game support using controllers in it, such as a 360 controller or ps3 in motionjoy?

Oblivion played on my desktop which was ancient and had a very old graphics card, I'm sure the M11X R1 will be able to play it maxed out. And I'm not sure about this but I do believe Oblivion does not support any type of controller.

I play Oblivion with a 360 controller, I had to use a program called Xpadder to map the buttons though. you do have to mod your .ini file though to get the controller to work properly though. Here are directions I found

"The Oblivion.ini file is located in the My Documents\My Games\Oblivion directory. In the [Controls] section, change the “bUse Joystick=1” setting to “bUse Joystick=0” or simply disconnect the peripheral. Make sure the settings are saved. Note, changes to the Oblivion.ini file will not be saved if Oblivion in running when the changes are made."

Also I play on a R2 i5 on very high graphics and it runs perfect, so i would assume the R1 would be great too
