I have a request to make to anyone out there with an M11x R3... How does your machine cope with a videogame called Arma2? (Armed Assault 2)

The r1 and r2 couldn't hack it at all (single fps from what I've seen)
Does the r3 fare any better, given the more streamlined CPU and GPU?

i don't think it would fair any better!

EDIT: gave dirt 3 a try and it ran smoothly @ 720p between 40-60fps with aa off.

EDIT 2: Here's the video I promised for Dirt 3

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WqBRk50eb-o

all settings are in the video. let me know how my driving is cos i generally suck.

With racing games like Dirt, if you don´t use cockpit view, disable those settings, to low or off, I don´t like that view, and in Dirt 2 I have it in off or lows, and I get better frames, because if you don´t use that view, and you have it on or mediums or highs, the system need to render the cockpit and driver, even when you don´t see it never.....

+rep on making all the m11x videos. It's great to see how other games run before buying them.

alright, but the video is saying it runs well outside of the cockpit/driver seat view.

but how's my driving?

EDIT: I am quite happy with Dirt 3 as it doesn't go below 30-35fps and stays within the 40-50fps range but it does go higher @ 720p.

Using the game's internal benchmark you do see a decrease in both average and minimum FPS when at 1366x768 compared to 1280x720.

With all other settings the same, just a resolution change I got the following:

1280x720 - Avg: 50.129833 - Min: 37.283875
1366x768 - Avg: 43.063023 - Min: 30.537989

so there's a 7fps difference in both average and minimum FPS but playing @ 1366x768 the game still did not go below my personal minimum of 30fps and I did not notice any obvious difference which is good. though i would still play @ 1280x720p to give me some "buffer" in fps.

the following video is the same track, but a different car and running @ 1366x768 and compare that to my original video which ran at 720p and see if you notice anything.

YouTube - ‪DIRT 3 on stock M11x R2 (core i7) running @ 1366x768‬‏

(the new video is just an excuse for me to add the NBR logo as a reference point to here as well as some text).

I'll have to update my drivers to play on high settings. Should I go with nVidia's drivers? Also, I can only run medium with the high res texture pack.

Here's a video of Operation Flashpoint: Red River running on my M11x R2.

YouTube - ‪Operation Flashpoint: Red River on stock M11x R2‬‏

you'll be pushing the FPS a bit if running at 720p but 576p still looks good.

EDIT: I can tell from the over the top marine dude and how the controls are that this isn't the great game codemasters has made.

+Rep for the video.... :D this machine sure beyond my expectation doesn't it..?? it seems you use Fraps for recording this video (from the benchmark point at the top right of your screen), does using it for recording a video significantly decrease your FPS ?? It happens a lot in my machine and made horrible video as a result.....

and about your driving, my advice is use the gamepad controller next time.. :p

it would if I did use FRAPS to record. I only use it as an FPS indicator: all recordings are done with a video camera.

What's Supreme Commander like on the R1? I hear it's CPU intensive, but its amazingly cheap on Steam today.

I have the m11x R2 with i5 and 4GB of RAM, no overclocks on both CPU or GPU and I get 29-40fps in F1 2010, at 1366x768, 4XMSAA, V-synch off (only screen tearing in this game is in the menus) the rest of the settings are a mix of mediums and highs, with all the cockpit views in low or off, the game runs great

Benchmark screen:

http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b245/VIdaluko/F1_2010_game2011-07-1015-31-22-79.jpg

And I even did a video, of course fraps almost cut down the frames at half (around 18-20fps) but still is good to see how the game looks at those settings:

275.33 drivers, and the only part where I get 29fps is near the finish line, there is to much stuff, the pits, the crowd, all that, the rest of the track, never drops below 30....

Play with the settings, sometimes when I get a game, I spend 1 hour playing at different settings, and fraps, to see how can I get better performance and visuals...

Some people play with default settings, or a global medium settings, or high settings, when maybe a game runs great with all high settings, but with shadows in medium, or with AA or without it, v-synch, etc.

The m11x is a great machine, but is not to get a game, put all settings to medium or high, and play...

When I see some performance problems in ANY game, I go to lower the shadow settings, always, that´s the first thing I do, some people first put a lower resolution, or lower textures, etc.

The minimum system requirements are:

I'm thinking the M11x will be able to do it. As will all processor intensive games, you may have to turn down shadows or tweak settings. I do think it will play though.

It sounds like a CPU intensive game. Who turns on shadows anyway :p ? You never notice them and they give you a hella'ofa' FPS increase. NEVERtrust minimum requirements, and we don't know what FPS is guaranteed with the minimum specs at which settings in-game. I don't think the game will run well on the M11XR1/R2/R3.

pity there's no other games that use the chrome 5 engine so we can't see something similar running on the m11x.

Has anybody here ran Mass Effect 1 on their R1? If so what settings did you use for a solid frame rate? This game doesn't seem very well optimised.

Yeah, I managed to get it running reasonable well. Have you OC'd your processor to 1.73ghz? Also, make sure that Alienware Command Centre is closed down completely along with any other CPU/GPU intensive programmes. Don't let this discourage you from continuing your Mass Effect adventure, ME2 is highly optimised.

I think my settings were at max resolution, high graphics with no AA/AF.

i installed from a retail disc and updated it to v1.02 but because of the crappy textures i uninstalled it.

EDIT: Because I have a retail version of Dirt 3 and F1 2010. now, F1 2010 can play fine with a mini-image mounted into a virtual drive but Dirt 3 still detects the virtual drive and so needs a no-cd version of the exe to play.

Hey Guys,

I see a lot of you are using ThrottleStop to boost your M11x R2's performance! I have it installed, but don't think I have this thing set up properly. I don't see any difference really in terms of FPS boost whether I have it switched on or not.

Can you suggest settings that i should try?

Cheers..

i find that if you play dirt 3 don't force it to DX9 otherwise it'll chuck down the fps even more.

it's strange because you'd think that by forcing DX9 it would have no effect on the fps, but it does. there's a setting in the xml file that forces dx9 and if you type true it chugs no matter what.

in F1 2010 it didn't have as much of a noticeable affect on the fps.

Maybe not all at ultra settings, but is not getting raped....

What settings?

Even at low settings does not run? Or maxed out you get bad frames? Is a very randow word to say just that X game does not get good frames...

Also, what are good frames? 30? 60?

Weird. I play ACB just fine - medium settings and 1080p. I get about 30-40fps. When I play on my laptop I get about 5-10fps more.
