Does anyone have any guess for the R1s performance on SWTOR at stock everything? Im thinking it will run beautifully. Or maybe thats just hoping -
Alienware had Dead Island running on an M11x r3 at PAX Prime 2011 and I didn't think the FPS was good/smooth to where it would be considered playable.

Hey Guys, hope u can help me out before i make this decision in buying an alienware.
I been reading around and I've seen there are different types of alienware such as the r1, r2 and r3. As far as i seen and correct me if i'm wrong, r2 are the ones with the i3 processor and r3 are the ones with i5 and i7?
is the i3 processor good enough to handle some newer games + everyday task? or should i try to put extra money and purchase the i5? the i3 i was looking at has the 1.2ghz processor and 8GB of ram. Then there is the i5 with 1.4ghz with turbo up to 2.3ghz and only 4gb of ram, and the i5 has the 540M rather than the 335m.
I know the i5 processor is better... etc, but im also trying to save some money (college starting soon) and get this laptop. so for those of you who have the i3 with 8gb of ram how good is it? is the 8gb of ram really necessary or will the 4gb do? what about the video cards? how are they different?
Thanks! -
For those of you who are interested. I checked the Space Marine demo from steam and the new Deus Ex on my
M11xR1, cpu OC, all stock drivers and stock bios
Space Marine runs pretty well. I never use fraps, but I had no problems playing it on the default settings. Not even during the horde battles.
Also Deus Ex run pretty good on the default settings. Some people will probably find the fps a little too low, but it doesn't bother me at all. The m11x doesn't seem to experience any slowdowns during gunfights, but outside locations such as the large map detroit are a bit heavier and the fps drops a little.
I'd say the m11x R1 is slowly getting a little old, but it can still handle the newer games -
I can say that the Space Marine demo works very well on my R2 - getting between 40-60fps @ 720p.
on the other hand the Red Orchestra 2 beta is out so will see how it fairs on the r2.
EDIT: nup, the SP or the MP won't load - it just chucks me back to the menu! -

OS Windows XP, Vista/7
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core 4000+ or better • Intel Core 2 Duo Processor 2.0GHz or better
Windows XP: 1.5GB RAM • Windows Vista and Windows 7: 2GB RAM • PCs using a built-in graphical chipset, 2GB RAM recommended.
ATI X1800 or better* • nVidia 7800 or better* • Intel 4100 Integrated Graphics or better*
8x or better DVD-ROM
*Minimum of 256MB of on-board RAM and Shader 3.0 or better support.
Cpu should be fine on 1.6ghz/1.73 whichever you call it. plenty of ram since it usually comes with 4 there wasnt really ever any doubt the Nvidia would run it but its nice to see the intel should run it (4500MHD or is it just hd id have to check) albeit on low/medium so you can play in class while your waiting to take notes or whatever im going to be getting it through origin since no steam. -

guys is MW3 going to need a montly subscription? just saw a multiplayer trailer and want it so badly but I have some questions that other guys have too
- is going to perform as well as mw2 on r1?
- is going to have a montly payment?!! >:[ -

ok, i have dead island decrypted and it runs pretty well on my R2 on the default settings...just changed the res from 1024x768 to 720p and it still runs good.
-
what about native res and low settings? -
-
the fps doesn't drop as bad when outdoors but i've changed it down to 1024x576 to be safe.
Warhammer 40k Space Marine I run at 720p with a few modified settings. it does drop below 30 if there's heaps of enemy showing up.
EDIT: figured out how to do custom resolutions for space marine...
the file is located at c:\users\(your username)\AppData\Local\THQ\Relic Entertainment\Space Marine\gamePC.cfg
look for...
"Resolution.Height = xxx
Resolution.Width = xxxx"
and there you can do a custom resolution and i have the game set to 1024x576. -
Just played some Dead Island, native res, medium graphics was getting 40-45 fps. I have an i5 r2 using TS.

Hey gh0sts, how are you finding Dead Island?
Hearing people say that it's like Borderlands or Fallout 3 with Zombies makes me want to buy it -
im uploading a video of dead island on my m11x r1 , everything on default... should be up in a minute or two
-
LOL Here you go guys, Sorry about quality, I used my iphone to record video. its 720p running to my 22inch monitor...
Dead island on m11x r1 - YouTube -
Looks good, especially for default settings
-
-
That looks incredibly smooth. How is it gameplay wise?
-
Dead Island took that concept to a completely different level. They literally released beta developer-edition unfinished game code.
Dead Island offers flashes of fun in unfinished, buggy PC release (Updated) -
Yeah, I read that, but I heard the right version is now on Steam.
-
you can even fly around the island if you press the Y key iirc
-
-
Gameplay is smooooth, even when im being bombarded by Zombies. No stutter or anything
-
I think I'm gonna buy it. I've watched a few reviews and it seems like great combat with Fallout style exploring/open world.
-
Yeah plus i lovee te scenery, it reminds me of the first farcry.

I'm buying Dead Island! I have the R2, hope it'll run great. -
So, after a few hours playing it how is it? Everyone recommend it? It's $39.99 on Amazon right now.
-
bah! the update killed the DLC!
-
Anyone tried Dead Island on the M11x yet?
I'm assume medium/low with no shadows. Can anyone confirm? -
Hmm I need to be having a few issues with the game, all on default settings, the game just seems to run choppy for me or has slowdown issues in combat. I'm running an R2, so it should be fine right?
Any ideas why this might be happening? -
No idea considering i can run the game on high on my r1. Have you shut down all unnecessery windows apps? Sure your video card is active and not the integrated video? This is one reason why i prefer switching cards manually. I will record a new vid tomorrow showing my settings if you guys want...

My copy hasn't unlocked yet. I think it's my region.
First impressions??? -
If you guys look for the system requeriments, it ask for a core 2 duo 2.6Ghz for recommended, other newer games ask already for quad cores for recommended...

i am tweaking the settings for dead island on my R2 to see if it'll do any good cos it's staying about 30fps so far at 720p though i think it's more CPU bound than GPU bound.
EDIT: I have noticed in the game that all cars are right hand drive so being from a country that uses right hand drive it's totally normal for me but probably not so for the US...I think they picked that because the island is meant to be in Papua New Guinea which is near Australia. -
first_leviathan Notebook Consultant
Right hand drive is definitely annoying... So we gotta drive on the left side of the road? :| Are there zombie cops that pull you over? -
So it runs better on the R1 than the R2? I'm confused whether it's smooth or not. Kingerno says it runs great on his R1, but some R2 users are saying it runs poorly. Not sure if I want to buy.
Another video of someone playing Dead Island on a R1 -
I'm uploading a video as we speak running Dead Island on my R1 on high with fraps to show the framerates also, Should be up soon.
-
Here you go, Make sure you change the quality to 720p
