From Dust on the R2 i5 provided by Froogle Heres the thread http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware-m11x/604627-has-anyone-played-dust-m11x-2.html and here the direct youtube for the lazy ones like me :p http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4YomB61iPRU

Does anyone have any guess for the R1s performance on SWTOR at stock everything? Im thinking it will run beautifully. Or maybe thats just hoping :spinny:

Alienware had Dead Island running on an M11x r3 at PAX Prime 2011 and I didn't think the FPS was good/smooth to where it would be considered playable.

Hey Guys, hope u can help me out before i make this decision in buying an alienware.

I been reading around and I've seen there are different types of alienware such as the r1, r2 and r3. As far as i seen and correct me if i'm wrong, r2 are the ones with the i3 processor and r3 are the ones with i5 and i7?

is the i3 processor good enough to handle some newer games + everyday task? or should i try to put extra money and purchase the i5? the i3 i was looking at has the 1.2ghz processor and 8GB of ram. Then there is the i5 with 1.4ghz with turbo up to 2.3ghz and only 4gb of ram, and the i5 has the 540M rather than the 335m.
I know the i5 processor is better... etc, but im also trying to save some money (college starting soon) and get this laptop. so for those of you who have the i3 with 8gb of ram how good is it? is the 8gb of ram really necessary or will the 4gb do? what about the video cards? how are they different?

    Thanks!

For those of you who are interested. I checked the Space Marine demo from steam and the new Deus Ex on my

M11xR1, cpu OC, all stock drivers and stock bios

Space Marine runs pretty well. I never use fraps, but I had no problems playing it on the default settings. Not even during the horde battles.

Also Deus Ex run pretty good on the default settings. Some people will probably find the fps a little too low, but it doesn't bother me at all. The m11x doesn't seem to experience any slowdowns during gunfights, but outside locations such as the large map detroit are a bit heavier and the fps drops a little.

I'd say the m11x R1 is slowly getting a little old, but it can still handle the newer games :)

I can say that the Space Marine demo works very well on my R2 - getting between 40-60fps @ 720p.

on the other hand the Red Orchestra 2 beta is out so will see how it fairs on the r2.

EDIT: nup, the SP or the MP won't load - it just chucks me back to the menu!

Unless stock OC'd your CPU will bottleneck performance. I think the minimum requirement is a dual core 2.2ghz CPU; neverthelesss, I believe 1.73ghz should be adequate.

R2 and R3 varients both come with a choice of iCore processors (i5 and i7). Do not, however, buy the i3 as it's considerably weaker than the other two options. There's little difference between the GPUs, I'd say the 540M is little over 10% faster. Don't waste any money on more RAM than you'll ever need, 4GB will suffice.

    Minimum for SWTOR
    OS Windows XP, Vista/7
    AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core 4000+ or better • Intel Core 2 Duo Processor 2.0GHz or better
Windows XP: 1.5GB RAM • Windows Vista and Windows 7: 2GB RAM • PCs using a built-in graphical chipset, 2GB RAM recommended.
ATI X1800 or better* • nVidia 7800 or better* • Intel 4100 Integrated Graphics or better*
    8x or better DVD-ROM
*Minimum of 256MB of on-board RAM and Shader 3.0 or better support.
Cpu should be fine on 1.6ghz/1.73 whichever you call it. plenty of ram since it usually comes with 4 there wasnt really ever any doubt the Nvidia would run it but its nice to see the intel should run it (4500MHD or is it just hd id have to check) albeit on low/medium so you can play in class while your waiting to take notes or whatever im going to be getting it through origin since no steam.

Unfortunately i had to go with the i3, i had a great deal for only 700$ tax included. The r3 came out to be around 900 tax included which was a great deal as well but i still had to finish paying off my school. Hopefully the r2 (i3 processor) is not so bad :(

in a hotel atm so can't really do a video.

will stay above 30fps if i chuck it to 1024x576 and putting the texture quality, foliage quality, and fx quality to medium but leave everything else at default.

the fps doesn't drop as bad when outdoors but i've changed it down to 1024x576 to be safe.

Warhammer 40k Space Marine I run at 720p with a few modified settings. it does drop below 30 if there's heaps of enemy showing up.

EDIT: figured out how to do custom resolutions for space marine...

    the file is located at c:\users\(your username)\AppData\Local\THQ\Relic Entertainment\Space Marine\gamePC.cfg

    look for...

    "Resolution.Height = xxx
    Resolution.Width = xxxx"

and there you can do a custom resolution and i have the game set to 1024x576.

You know how there is a lot of rage against developers releasing unfinished, buggy games? And their plan is to just launch the game, and then release a post-launch patch?

Dead Island took that concept to a completely different level. They literally released beta developer-edition unfinished game code.

Dead Island offers flashes of fun in unfinished, buggy PC release (Updated)

Far Cry 1 was great for its time. It actually looks fine compared to modern games when it's maxed out, which the M11x can do. :D

I'm buying Dead Island! I have the R2, hope it'll run great.

Hmm I need to be having a few issues with the game, all on default settings, the game just seems to run choppy for me or has slowdown issues in combat. I'm running an R2, so it should be fine right?

Any ideas why this might be happening?

No idea considering i can run the game on high on my r1. Have you shut down all unnecessery windows apps? Sure your video card is active and not the integrated video? This is one reason why i prefer switching cards manually. I will record a new vid tomorrow showing my settings if you guys want...

If you guys look for the system requeriments, it ask for a core 2 duo 2.6Ghz for recommended, other newer games ask already for quad cores for recommended...

i am tweaking the settings for dead island on my R2 to see if it'll do any good cos it's staying about 30fps so far at 720p though i think it's more CPU bound than GPU bound.

EDIT: I have noticed in the game that all cars are right hand drive so being from a country that uses right hand drive it's totally normal for me but probably not so for the US...I think they picked that because the island is meant to be in Papua New Guinea which is near Australia.

I know, what I´m saying is that the game don´t ask that much to run, newer games already ask for quad cores, while this ask for a 3 gen old CPU
