    Head bobbing is beast!

And judging by the first 20 seconds, the game looks like Quake.

bah! sometimes dead island would just drop to < 20fps like it was trying to run on integrated graphics :( but if i alt-tab it the game would go back to normal.

My Dead Island is running really choppy and it slows down on my R2 on default, even when i lower everything it still lags beyond playable

edit: i dont know if its just me but everything low/med puts me at about 4-10 FPS. I'm using the main GPU not the intel one too. Which driver would you guys recommend, it's really laggy to be playable for me.

I have the old dell driver so i doubt its a driver issue. Maybe its an optimus issue and its running on the integrated card??

yeah I was about to say that. If you're getting 10 FPS on a game that people with the R1 are getting 40 FPS on, 99.9999999% of the time you gotta whitelist your executables. Glad you fixed it though.

If I may make a comment though... The stock Dell drivers are pretty atrocious in terms of performance. Going to the nvidia site and downloading the latest drivers for the GT335m should give you a performance boost.

    Hey Guys,

I don't know it this has been posted already, but here it goes...

I'm having an issue with source engine based games. No matter what, they don't recognize the GT 540M as Pixel Shader 3 capable, and as such I can't even select High Shadows in the options menu. The only options I got are low and medium.

Taking a look at the menu, I can see that it says my card is DX9 only, not DX9c.

I tried using the default driver that came with the M11xR3, then the 275.33 and the last one 280.26 but nothing changed.

    Any idea of what's happening?

By the way.. this little alien rocks!

Shift plays really well on the R1 with medium settings at 1920x1080. Awesome game, well worth playing.

    I haven't tried shift 2.

Shift 2 has the worst performance of the two... and only runs at about 30 FPS on max settings. Hot Pursuit runs better, but there are not a whole lot of settings you can tweak. I haven't played Shift 2 as much, but both games run at playable framerates.

oh and I'm assuming you guys saw the Diablo 3 beta playthrough on IGN. I have a good feeling that Diablo 3 will run on the M11x. (All the physics based stuff has me a bit worried though) ... the IGN guys seem to claim that people were playing Diablo 3 acceptably on Macs and lower end systems.

    *fingers crossed*

I got Alpha Protocol in the Steam sale (Sega games) and it runs great, maxed out at 1366x768 and runs 80% of the time at 60fps, the game is a mix of Splinter Cell and Mass Effect (in the gameplay)

Is a decent game, it has mostly 7/10 in the reviews, but for $2, is a must have IMO

I´m uploading a video right now with a few seconds of the gameplay (like all my videos, I have slow internet connection to upload 4-5 minutes of each game)

P.S. I have the m11x R2, i5, 4GB of RAM, 320GB HDD, etc. No overcloks on both CPU or GPU

    Edit: Here is the video

I grabbed Alpha Protocol as well. There was no way I could not get it at that price!

I haven't played it much but it definitely seems to run perfectly for me as well.

I did a test with 1920x1080 resolution with Alpha Protocol and runs maxed out around 40-50 frames in the missions (is runs 30 frames un the safe house)

Thanks for the reply. I picked up Shift 1. I regret it alot. Oh well, $5 wasted.

I also bought Alpha Protocol for $2. Who can pass up a $2 game? That's way cheaper than a rental!

I have to have the newest Nvidia drivers. I don't really want to upgrade because I'll lose the save power functionality. You say it runs fine on R1 models? Even in a full room? I might have to upgrade. I was going to get it on Xbox, but maybe not.

Would love to hear some feedback on several games from any M11x R3 users who can help.
    Specifically...

    Metro2033
    Armed Assault 2
    RAGE
    Dead Island

Is your little nipper up to the task? I'd expect Metro 2033 and Armed Assault 2 to bring the machine to it's knees if I'm honest, hoping that the other two are handled ok. (Heard that RAGE needs performance patching already, so I'll be keeping an eye on that one.)
Any help would be gratefully appreciated, many thanks! :)

I'm planning on getting an AW in the next month or two and have kinda narrowed my choice down to m11x or m14x. My heart is definitely set on an AW. I know other brands cost less and I'm okay with that.

I will be using the laptop for mainly one reason: Star Wars The Old Republic.

I want to be able to play this particular game maxed out and flawlessly. I understand that these types of games are less demanding than say call of duty or something along those lines and SWTOR has pretty low minimum requirements as to accommodate more users.

Any ideas what choices to go with in regards to the processor or anything? I saw a lot of r2 with the i3 core on the Dell outlet site. Would that be a good choice considering my intended use?

My budget is at around 2,000 USD but I dont want to spend a bunch of extra cash on bells and whistles that will be useless to me. I know very little about computers, so I come to you guys. The experts. Looking forward to your responses. Thanks for your time and help! :) :) :)

    Ask yourself this:

"Do I really need a portable gaming laptop?"

    >Yes? Get the M11X.
    >No? Build a cheap desktop.

Does anyone actually use their M11x as a primary gaming machine? (other than maybe a videogame console?)

It'd be interesting to get your thoughts on how you feel the machine fares from the perspective of it not being an addition to, say, a larger set up that might include a beefier desktop PC?

Also, for those interested RAGE has been patched to improve performance..

i do, and it performs flawlessly. su7300 r1. RIFT, and soon to be SWTOR, Fable 3, Mass effect 2, Borderlands, counter strike source, Team Fortess, Torchlight( and soon to be torchlight 2 and Diablo 3). Batman Arkham Asylum, resident evil 5, Dirt 2, Just Cause 2, Deux Ex, Bioshock, Left for Dead 2, It Plays them all. Only Game i've really been disappointed on performance was BLUR. it doesn't play that game worth a crap, I couldn't be happier with the performance of this little computer. Except my hinge started acting up yesterday. good thing it's still under warranty.

I do. Have done for the past year now. I did a lot of travelling so I wanted something powerful and portable.

I'm most likely going to sell it though now that I've settled down again, and I'll probably build a PC for games.

I do, but I just recently got mine a few weeks ago.

I will admit though, I got rid of my desk when I got rid of my desktop, and now I find it hard to find the "right" spot in my house to game at. I can easily browse the web on my couch, but now that I don't have a true desk, I find myself playing games at my dining room table, which is not the most comfortable, but it works.

I really only play a MMORPG though, which is not usually as intense as some games can be. They are more relaxing... I have been thinking about getting a laptop table to set on my lap while sitting on my couch. I can't use the touchpad as my mouse, so I use a USB connected one, hence the need for a flat surface. My couches are very poofy :D Not suitable for mouse use.

I loaded up Metro 2033 and it ran rather smooth, I wasn't using Fraps at the time, so I don't know what my FPS was, but it wasn't laggy or jumpy set at "high". I am definatly impressed.

The real reason I got my M11x was because I am deploying in Nov/Dec... So I didn't want my desktop collecting dust for 6 months while I was in the desert, and I wanted something that was light and powerful. The M11x definitely fit the bill ;)

At the moment I use it as my primary, mainly because I've been travelling a lot and don't have as much time to game, being able to whip out the m11x and play ten or so minutes is really handy. In addition to that my desktop is very dated, and the graphics card is starting to crap out I think (overclocking... not so successful me thinks).

I originally had a R1, which I wasn't 100% satisfied with in regards to the minimum frame rates I was getting, but the R3 solves those woes very handily. So pumped to get Arkham City running on this thing!

I wouldn't want to be using it for really long gaming sessions though, would be far too cramped in my opinion.

Expect to be shocked at how low the FPS actually are.

Metro 2033 is an absolute GPU killer (whether it justifies it is a different matter).

High settings at the native resolution even on my R1 (CPU OC and GPU OC) is basically unplayable, the beginning starts out ok but once you get outside the framerate will be in the low teens.

The game *should* be playable (average around 30fps) at a mixture of medium and low (normal) settings but even then I found it to be a game that doesn't respond nicely to low FPS.

Simply put the 335m doesn't have the shader power, fillrate or memory bandwidth to properly play Metro.

For me this isn't an issue as I didn't think much to the game.

    Thanks,

I haven't played it very long, I tend to get new games and not play them because I have a slight MMO addiction (Its under control, I promise). If I don't get around to finishing it, it won't be the end of my world.

Why do you have your Memory clock so damn high? I am no expert, not even close, but everywhere I have read says that Memory clock does not help all that well when it comes to OCing GPUs, in fact it lowers their lifespan, so to speak.

    Just curious.

I have heard that there are a lot of issues with how loud the fan gets when gaming on the R3, how loud is the noise - is it distracting or is this not a real issue?

My current laptop makes nearly no noise at all.
