It may be possible with a BIOS customization utility of some kind, but I don't know what's available for Phoenix BIOS. I did it to my Acer Aspire one (InsydeH2O BIOS) to show an image of my motorcycle with my driver's license ona white background. It was a pain because the black-bordered Acer and Intel Atom logos were different and in a different format, requiring me to make three perfectly aligned images cut from my main image to get it just right. It had to have a black border at the top due to the BIOS printing out text and black dots across the top.

I've seen some utilities that let you flash your own *IF* your motherboard/BIOS supports it... like with my old Intel D850GB motherboard (first Pentium IV board ever) from 2001, though the BIOS stopped supporting full-color splash screen images when they reverted to some VESA video mode in a later update.

Guys, is there any way to have official video driver with latest nvidia driver?

Its a long story, but on default driver, I've got some barely visible lines, and if i override it with nvidia driver from nvidia.com i have perfect image but after reboot intel driver dies and no switch between cards. So may be there is a way to install intel video driver, this switch mechanism and nvidia driver i'll take from nvidia.com

@vorob = no go. Nvidia doesn't make the hybrid graphics drivers, the manufacturers do. If you want the latest, then you have to go modded :D

I think we have to complain by Dell.
    1. Drivers (no CUDA, worser Gameplay due not implemented new drivers)
    2. Problem by turning off the nVidia-Grafic - it still remains activated and uses Power. So if its as advertised switchable - at can be switched on and off.
    3. No WWan for the world out of USA.
    4. Not that restricted Bios - E: Throtteling CPU in HighPerformance-Mode, etc.

ONLY THEY can help us - complain there - I did.

    Can I ask a question...

I ordered my 11x and it's due to arrive May 10th. here is my question regarding this thread.

Could someone make one post with all of the most useful tweaks for the 11x? This way we don't have to go through the entire thing for every little tweak, or maybe a "I am a gamer and here is what i did to mine" so I have a starting point on what to do when mine shows up.

hm i dont know if anyone have mentioned this before

but Your Uninstaller is a pretty good software that totally uninstall a program along with it's registry and all those junks which usually are being left by Windows Add or Remove program

i think it should also save some of your HDD whenever uninstalling a programs

although maybe it's just small ones like reg and all that, but i think it's worth it, you dont need those junk anyway when the program is not in your Laptop anymore right? :D

although, the down side is that it's not a freeware

^ I just use Ccleaner to clean up registry entries after uninstalling a program. Does the job for me.

    (I don't have an M11x although I'm kinda waiting for a refresh.)

    Hey guys,

    new owner here. few q's.

    1. multitouch support. Can you pinch and zoom on google maps? rather than just increase text/image size

    2. alienfxlite. is this app better than alienfx due to system resources?

    3. what applications can you use alienfx with or customize with?

thanks for your time , appreciate it.

    question here

if i am to reinstall my whole M11X system with the Win7 DVD that came with it

then install manually all the driver from the M11X Driver section in Dell website

    A) will i have a faster ( even if it's a tiny more ) system than if we factory restore to original settings?

    B) by downloading all the drivers there, will i have the same system like apps all came with M11X? ( eg: the wallpaper, Theme and Steam, because it's not there on the downloads section )

    C) can we get Dell Data Safe again? as i heard rumors that, Dell Website didn't offer Dell Data Safe download

    D) Cons and Pros of totally clean re install the M11X?

Facial recognition login. If you don't use it you can disable it in the "services" panel. It increased your CPU idle load as well.

Look through the first few pages. Most of the good stuff is there. Probably pages 1-5.

Install Scrybe off the Synaptics.com website. Not sure if it works on google maps, but it offers pinch zoom and other neat stuff. I have it on my M11x and currently trying to get it to work on my Inspiron 1720.

I have used this thread to get rid of the bloatware on mine and get rid of the facial recognition. I just uninstalled that as it bothered me being on my login screen, absolutely love my M11x, absolutely my favorite computer thus-far.

Vorob, I dont see what you posted. Use the power cycle you need. My advice.. go balls to the wall. This thing needs every bit of cpu mojo we can get. Set it to high, set it to high in nvidia, set it to high alienware as well. Disable powermizer - Registry for Nvidia. This way you get maximum performance with battery or power.

You have to wonder how I get such good gaming benchmarks... :)

Note - I owe all my thanks to these Alienware forums. Many many good folks have posted tips and tricks to get the job done. This place is worth it's weight in GOLD!

You can use a free battery monitoring software that will allow you to change to them automatically or by right click on the icon. Use BatteryCare or BatteryBar.

@ vorob I replaced my hdd with an sdd, but I really could not tell you how it has affected gamed performance. Sadly, I haven't played a game on the M11x since I got it. I had been busy with work and school.

I will fire up some games this week and see how it affects loading times.

Just got my M11x and it works great and It is awesome!

For the IGP and 335m switching, i think the fan just stays on to cool the GPU, and after that, it turns off.

Congrats Arklight! Please do some reading before making any updates/changes to the graphics driver or drivers in general. With the new bios, the cpu/gpu fan may stay on longer and more often to keep the notebook cooler. This is a good thing. It is not as quiet as before... fn-f6 will allow you to change between integrated and discrete video. You can't have apps open when you make the change. Also, HDMI out will only work on Discrete video only, not integrated.

    Good Luck,

    StevenX
