Cancelled my i5 order and re-ordered an i7 (much better deal - worked out cheaper!) on the 18th, and today my order has been shipped and left China![]()
Very good turnaround.....for once it pays to be in the UK - good discount and fast shipping!

For anyone curious about lead times in Malaysia:
Order Date: 14th July
Delivery scheduled for tomorrow 24th July. Machine is built and with the courier.
Funnily enough, this is considered a slow delivery time, given that on 14th-16th July, Dell China was on holidays and was not processing orders.
FYI, my system is not pre-built and fully customized to my liking: i7, 500GB, 8gb Ram. Yes I know it's alot of ram, but it worked out cheaper to get 8gb ram over 4gb ram.
You North American folk should consider yourselves lucky and stop complaining about delivery times. You guy's get way more options that people outside NA. e.g. laser engraved personalized plates, soft touch stealth black from the onset, options to buy accessories not available outside of NA, not to mention EPP AND coupons AND lower prices! -
Honestly, its probably best to be patient. You are just making your days go by slower by constantly thinking about getting it as early as possible. I just check my order status once a day now, makes life easier.

I contacted dell and asked them when it would be produced and when it would arrive, he said he would send me an email and this is what it said:
-
Okay well lets put it this way. I ordered two weeks ago, and I now have a week and a half left until I head over-seas. I have heard the horror stories and I figured a month would be good enough, but my unit is still in production and phone support is not support sadly.
Yes that is enough to make me want to cancel my order as much as I want the little bugger. -
-
By the time we give up and forget about it, they will start shipping
-
I've been talking to a Dell rep for a couple days now about my US order (6/13 --> EDD 7/8) for an R2 i7, 4gb, w/BT. Initially, she said that all of my parts appeared to be in stock, and that everything would run smoothly. She said that she would contact the manufacturer and get some info about it for me. This was on the 20th
She called me this morning to give me an update. I was asleep, but she left a message saying that a part for my laptop has been BACKORDERED.
I just sent an e-mail asking what part in particular since she didn't mention, and I'll post it once I figure that out.
Do you think that this will affect all of the laptops placed around this time? What's going on???
update:
She just called again in response to my e-mail and said that no part is actually back ordered. It's just that Alienware laptops take a long time to build or some random bs like that, and that it would probably just ship by the EDD. She did say that my order would be updated to next delivery day shipping though! That was a great plus. -
I actually had a good experience with the guys at Dell customer service. I talked to a guy who said he would "Do his best" to get it here faster and I thought it was just to get me off the phone, but every day he would call my cellphone, letting me know that he's still trying and today he called just to say that he got it shipped out early for me. I was shocked.
-
Nice...r u in US? when did u order it and what is ur config?
-
Cancelled my order sadly, stupid lady on the phone said she couldn't do anything for me. My bad for leaving it till so late, but I realllly wanted the R2 over the R1 so I waited on ordering.
My fault I guess, to soon before I have to leave, I don't feel like paying for something I won't see for 6-12 months without paying stupid shipping fees to locations I am not at longer than 2-3 days at a time.
Hope you all have fun with yours!! >_< heheh -
Ordered from dell.ca today, EDD is July 19th @_@ you guys weren't kidding about the long turn around. Consider I paid with paypal, which took in itself almost two weeks to fund my account via bank transfer bleh.
Anyway I can wait, but really wish the delivery time was more in line with NCIX. I've ordered systems there, fully customized that arrive in a week. -
My EDD is still listed as 7/9 on the order status page but the rep I have now spoken with 3 times called again today to let me know that she thought my laptop would ship in the next 3-4 business days (so early next week?) I'm hopeful. Bought a Mushkin Callisto 120GB SSD today in anticipation (from the Mushkin corporate offices next door no less).

my edd got updated from 07/06 to 06/29......
-
Just hit the two week mark and I'm stiillll waitin...
-
I've also ordered a case and screen protector from Dell. Those appear on my account as orders but the m11X does not. When I search for the specific order number I can find the m11x "in production" but not listed when I go to my account/order status.
Very peculiar and not at all confidence inspiring. -
Just got my EDD updated to 6/30! original EDD 7/9
I ordered through Dell EPP and called them this past Monday. They told me they would work with manufacturing and "expedite" my order I also called to check on it yesterday and got the updated EDD today.
Can't wait to play around with my M11x over the holiday weekend! -
Didn't have to do anything. Ordered M11x R2 on 6/15. Original EDD updated from 7/12 to 6/30.
-
, but I'm glad that you're getting yours sooner at the same time.
I ordered my R2 on the 13th (and I'm pretty sure we have the same specs to my memory-- i7, 4gb, BT), but my pestering only lifted me from 7/8 to 7/6.
The change is purely due to the free upgrade from 7 day delivery to next business day shipping that they gave me. It's odd that the difference from 7 business day shipping and next day delivery is only 2 days though.. Kind of fishy.. -
Take it easy bud. My order was placed on 6/11. Nothing has changed for me. It will get here one day.
-
I also ordered on 6/15 but with next business day, and my EDD is still 7/8.
-
When i recived my NBD it boosted it from 7/12 to 7/8 which is only 2 business days because of the weekend as well ordered mine on 6/10
-
Yay, mine was updated from 7/9 to 6/29. I ordered on 6/12 (i5, 320gb hd, 4gb ram, standard nameplate).
-
I ordered on the 14th of june EDD 7/9 ,its still in production.
-
Ordered on 6/9 through EPP, original EDD 7/7 and it still is 7/7 EDD...
I can order today via regular dell w/ free i7 upgrade, get close to similar price as my employee discount and the EDD is two days earlier, 7/5... wth!
Emailed dell and this was their response
"Greetings !!!
Thank you for contacting Dell.
Please accept my apologies in regards to this issue. I do completely understand how important this order si for you.
I see that your order is in production and the estimated delivery date is shown as :07/07/10. Each and every effort is being made from my end so that your order can be expedited please be assured that I would be contacting you and would let you about on the order progress.
Should you need any help or have any questions, I will make myself avail for further assistance.
Thank you for choosing Dell. Have a great day. "
I am definitely gonna call and harass them tomorrow if there is no update, possibly even cancel my order. -

I ordered mine on 22-Jun-2010 and it shows "In Production" and Estimated Date as 20-Jul-2010.
[I have ordered the m11x-i7-8GB RAM-320GB HDD].
By when should I expect this?
I own a XPS 1210 and when I ordered it like 4 years ago I kinda got it in about a week..
very eager to get my hands on the m11x.. -
Bull crap from Dell. We are victims or there freagging marketing department prediction group. These people just know on which button push (nice action post on endgadget.com etc) to get us to order. THen they look at all the order and how they come in and from whom and from where.
Typical case: This guys paid full price 3 day after the announcement. Don't bother to send is system fast, is totally sold. Let's build our rep on the fregging haggler that will only buy with fast shipment + epp m-20% and whatever other suspicious random coupon.
Case 2: This guy is in asia, is used to absurd line up for everything and getting stuff because is uncle knows somebody. So, if we delay him, no problem, he is used to fight for place on the train to work with a knife .
Case 3: This guy is in Canada, is stuck waiting because he as to go tru the crazies in India or Morroco, he expect to phoque in the hasse since Dell.ca as no known business location in Canada where he could show up and fight. Also, anything electronic in Canada is 15% more then US, the guy as to be so happy to buy from us. Delay him also.
Case 4: Using our random delivery engine and knowing all those life less fan boy will keep their order Open no matter what we tell to them (as in : "Sir, your order is in production, nothing I can do ...") let send ransom to a select few in the Commonwealth + US so some m11x to atleast have some reviews and unboxing pics.
Case 5: We just have so many order, so little stock. Better not give out any info unless we start a final flame war with all od the net.
So, unless your case number 4, good luck to see your m11x before like the 14-20th of July
I just can't beleive how a serious for profit enterprise can manage to sell stuff and then tell you that whatever you ordered will randomly get to your on which ever they they feel like.
I regulary order for an other hobby of mine: RC car and truck. All the store involve in that business tell you wheter what they are selling is in stock or not. If it is not in stock well, you know it and you don't order or wait to for it come on stock.
Phoquing dell, they just broadcast to the whole planet that which ever laptop is ready to order. BUT!!! you only know whenyou get it once you gie your all to precious credit card number.
2 weeks wainting for this phoquing m11x. If it don't come in next week. I am out, I cancel my order and never do business with dell ever again.
Bunch of phoquing loser abusing technolofy fans. -
^ Dude. Really?
You got an EDD when you ordered it, you knew of the preliminary ship date before clicking confirm. Go QQ somewhere else. The rest of us are all excited as well, but ranting like a 10 year old doesn't really add to anything here. -
I ordered my i7 on 6/10 and my initial shipping date was 7/10 it just updated to 6/29
!!! yay ... but i dont know seems to be a lot of problems with the new systems
and hinges lol
-
I shall benave
-
-
At least some of you guys are getting bumped up with the EDD. Ordered mine of 6/19 and my EDD is 7/15, almost a FULL FREAKING MONTH. Im really hoping that it comes a week early
-
Ordered on 6/13, just checked to see that the EDD has been updated from 7/8 to 6/29!!!!!
-
after reading these issues with the new R2 i actually wish i had a later delivery date... so it'll give me some more time to consider if i should cancel or return it
lol
-
I ordered 6/12 and got an EDD of 7/7. I was really hoping I would have gotten by today as I'm headed out the door for a trip and would have loved to take it with me.
But since it didn't make it in time the sense of urgency is gone. It can arrive in September now for all I care. -
It's been 6 days since I ordered my laptop and I just cannot wait any longer >:|
1 week before I ordered the laptop I ordered a case and it came the very next day (?) (the binder case incase you might be wondering).
Order date 06/18 EDD 07/15
This is way way way to damn long. -
Oh well, i order mine the 06/22 EDD 7/20... and that is only to the States, after that time is another 2 weeks till arrives to my country. I think it will arrive for my bithday (in august).
-
We're all anxious to score our new hardware!
So has anyone received one with the SSD? I'm trying to make logic of the inconstant shipping dates by dialing it down the components. -or maybe the method of ordering.
I ordered mine on 6/11 through EPP:
soft-touch
i7
4gb
ssd
no bt
blank nameplate
(yeah, yeah, not terribly practical with that SSD, but it was within my work's laptop budget for me.. so hey, why not?)
As far as I can tell maybe EPP get's lower priority or it's the availability of a component? -or it's just a random lottery? -
Random lottery.
There is no reason it should take a month to push out a unit like this, especially to Canada when their support says directly "all units are made in the USA" I call bs. -
. Let me know if you have any changes in EDD cause Im dying to get mine too. What were your specs?
-
Take It Slow Make It Happend
-
Hrm, first post!
I ordered my r2 6/15, EDD has been 7/8. I sent a super polite long elaborate e-mail to Dell asking them if there was any way to get my m11x delivered before 7/8 and that I'd be willing to pay to get it expedited.
I recieved a reply from a dell epp customer rep, she told me she upgraded my order to free next day air and placed an 'please expedite' notice on my order.
I'm wondering now if I might want to put my order on delay until all these optimus problems get worked out!
:blah: -
-
Nothing else was extra thats about anything customizable that I had.
And maybe if I send an email to dell like that I will get it sooner, hrm. I'm gunna give it a go. -
what optimus problems can i get link>>?>?
-
6/10/10 - 7/8/10 victim here.
I got a phone call from Dell and the rep said it will be shipped within the next two or three days.. even though it still says 7/8/10..
